indekscen.pl editorial team · published 30 September 2026 · prices according to the 5 October 2026 index
A stool test for parasites or a general stool examination at a private laboratory most often costs PLN 33, typically PLN 24 ‑ 40 for one sample. A Giardia test costs about PLN 44, while a stool antigen test for Helicobacter pylori costs about PLN 135. The most expensive option is a molecular gastrointestinal infection panel, at about PLN 520.
At a glance (as at 5 October 2026)
- A stool test for parasites or a general stool examination usually costs PLN 24 ‑ 40 per sample at laboratories.
- A private ELISA stool test for Giardia costs about PLN 44.
- A stool antigen test for Helicobacter pylori most often costs PLN 135 ‑ 140 at laboratories.
- A complete set of tests for a sanitary and epidemiological certificate, formerly known as a sanitary booklet, usually costs PLN 130 ‑ 325.
- A stool test for parasites in a dog or cat costs about PLN 74 at veterinary clinics.

A stool test may sound like a single examination, but laboratory price lists contain more than a dozen different options: general examination, parasites, Giardia, Helicobacter pylori, occult blood, cultures and molecular panels. As a result, prices can differ severalfold. We compare medians from public laboratory and clinic price lists, so you know what you are paying for and how many samples to provide.
How much does a stool test for parasites cost?
A private stool test for parasites most often costs PLN 33 for one sample, with half of the price lists falling within the PLN 24 ‑ 40 range. This is the median from 4 facility price lists collected by indekscen.pl. Details and sources are available at stool test (including for parasites). The cheapest individual tests for a specific parasite start at PLN 16, while a general stool examination at more expensive facilities costs up to PLN 50.
A general stool examination, which assesses appearance, consistency, food residue and the presence of blood, usually costs a similar amount. A parasite test involves examining the sample under a microscope for eggs and cysts. An ELISA test for Giardia is a separate, more expensive examination.
Stool test for parasites: three samples or one?
Laboratories usually recommend testing three stool samples collected several days apart because parasites do not shed eggs every day, and one sample may produce a false-negative result. Each sample is tested separately, so a set of three costs about PLN 100 (typically PLN 70 ‑ 120). Some laboratories sell these tests as a package, in which case it is worth comparing the price with three times the cost of a single test.
Ask the doctor who ordered the test how many samples are needed in your situation.
How much does a stool test for Helicobacter pylori cost?
A stool antigen test for Helicobacter pylori most often costs PLN 135 at laboratories, typically PLN 135 ‑ 140. It is noticeably more expensive than a parasite test because it is an immunochemical test that detects bacterial proteins rather than a microscopic examination. The price depends mainly on the collection centre: the same laboratory chain may charge different prices in different cities.
A stool test is one of several methods of detecting this bacterium. Your doctor will decide whether to use a stool test, blood test or breath test, as these methods have different applications, for example in follow-up testing after treatment.

A molecular panel is ordered by a doctor for persistent diarrhoea when the cause needs to be identified quickly. A general examination or parasite test is usually sufficient for a routine check.
Which diseases can a stool test detect?
Depending on the type of test, a stool test can detect intestinal parasites, Giardia, the Helicobacter pylori bacterium, occult blood and some bacteria and viruses that cause diarrhoea. A general examination provides information about digestion, for example whether the stool contains undigested fat, meat or starch. An occult blood test detects amounts of blood that are invisible to the naked eye.
No single stool test answers every question, so it is important to choose the scope according to your symptoms. If you have abdominal pain, diarrhoea or weight loss, first speak to a doctor, who will decide which tests to order and how to interpret the results. Buying expensive packages yourself “just in case” usually does not speed up diagnosis and increases the cost.
How much does a comprehensive stool test cost?
A comprehensive stool test, meaning a general examination, three parasite samples and a Giardia test, costs several times more in total than a single test: the three parasite samples alone cost about PLN 100, with a further cost of about PLN 44 for Giardia. Laboratory price lists do not contain one standard “comprehensive stool test”, as each laboratory puts together its own packages. Before buying a ready-made package, check exactly what it includes and compare its price with the total cost of the individual tests.
How much does a stool test for a sanitary certificate cost?
A stool test for a sanitary certificate, meaning a certificate for sanitary and epidemiological purposes, costs about PLN 170 on its own, while a complete package including a doctor’s certificate usually costs PLN 130 ‑ 325. This is different from a stool test for parasites: the laboratory performs a culture to check for carriage of food-borne bacteria, so the results take longer. We describe the entire procedure in the article how to obtain a sanitary booklet, while prices are available at sanitary and epidemiological certificate booklet.
How much does a dog stool test cost?
A stool test for parasites in a dog or cat most often costs PLN 74 at veterinary clinics and laboratories, typically PLN 62 ‑ 85. The basic method is flotation, and results usually take a few days. A Giardia test for animals is more expensive than flotation. Deworming is a separate service, costing about PLN 39 per dose.
How should you collect a stool sample to avoid repeating the test?
Use the spatula attached to the lid to place the amount specified by the laboratory in a sterile container from a pharmacy or collection centre, then deliver it within a few hours. A few practical rules:
- Get a container from the laboratory or a pharmacy. A jar from home is not suitable for testing.
- Collect the sample from several parts of the stool, without contaminating it with urine or toilet water.
- Label the container with your first name, surname and the date, and, when providing three samples, also its number.
- Deliver the sample promptly. If you need to wait, ask the laboratory whether it can be stored in the fridge.
- Mention any medication. Antibiotics and some other medicines can affect the result. Your doctor will decide whether you need to stop taking them temporarily.
How can you avoid overpaying for a stool test?
- Ask your doctor which test is needed. A molecular panel costs several times as much as a standard test and is not always necessary.
- Compare collection centres. The same laboratory chain may charge different prices in different cities.
- Use a referral. A stool test ordered by a GP is free through the NFZ (Polish public health insurance).
- Combine tests. If you are already having blood tests, such as a full blood count with differential, you can submit your stool sample during the same visit.

Frequently asked questions
Can you have a stool test without a referral?
Do you need to fast before providing a stool sample?
Nie, do badania kału nie trzeba być na czczo. Liczy się to, żeby próbkę pobrać do jałowego pojemnika i dostarczyć ją do punktu pobrań w czasie podanym przez laboratorium.
How long do stool test results take?
Which parasites can a stool test detect?
How much does a blood test for parasites cost?
Pakiet badań krwi na przeciwciała przeciw pasożytom kosztuje zwykle PLN 250 ‑ 310, a pojedyncze oznaczenie około PLN 75. To badanie uzupełniające, nie zamiennik badania kału.
