Door installation may seem like a straightforward service, but quotes can vary severalfold. One tradesperson may quote only for hanging the door leaf in an existing frame, another for installation with a new adjustable frame, while a third may include removal of the old door. Installing an external door is also a completely different job from installing an internal one. We have collected tradespeople’s price lists and compared the cost of each option.
How much does it cost to install an internal door with a frame?
Installing an internal door, including the door leaf and frame, most often costs PLN 320 per door according to 3 price lists and articles collected by indekscen.pl, with a typical range of PLN 275 ‑ 400. The most expensive, up to PLN 600, cover sliding or double doors, or installation requiring alterations to the opening.

Door installation price list: internal, external and additional work
Installing an external door costs considerably more than installing an internal one because the frame must be anchored to the wall, sealed against water and cold, and the heavy door leaf must be precisely levelled. Here is a price comparison based on our index:

How much does it cost to install an external door with a frame?
Standard installation of an external door with a frame, without an enhanced burglary-resistance rating, costs around PLN 740. When replacing an entrance door in a house or flat, the median is PLN 750, with the cheapest quotes starting at PLN 450. The price increases for so-called warm installation, which uses vapour-tight and vapour-permeable tapes around the frame, and for RC2 or RC3-rated doors, which are heavier and secured with more anchors. How much does door removal and installation cost?
In most price lists, removing an old door is a separate item added to the installation price. Removing a wooden frame set in brick is cheaper and takes around 20 minutes. Cutting out a steel frame embedded in the wall, common in blocks of flats, costs more: it must be cut with an angle grinder and the plaster around the opening then made good. Disposal of the old door is another potential cost worth asking about directly, as not every tradesperson includes it.
Replacing an entrance door in a block of flats, including removal, installation and making good, usually takes 3 to 4 hours in total. Plastering and painting the walls around the new frame is a further stage, often carried out by another tradesperson.
Installing a door in an old frame: is it worthwhile?
Installing a new door leaf in an old frame is cheaper because there is no need to remove and fit a frame, and the tradesperson only has to hang the door and adjust the hinges. This option makes sense when the old frame is straight, undamaged and the right size for the new door leaf, with the hinges in the same positions. The problem is that new door leaves are manufactured in standard sizes, while old frames, especially in communist-era blocks of flats, often do not match them. Covers that conceal an old steel frame are also available, allowing its appearance to be changed without removing it.
Adjustable or fixed door frame: which costs more to install?
Installing a door with an adjustable frame costs the same as, or only slightly more than, installation with a fixed frame, and the result is usually better. An adjustable frame wraps around both sides of the wall and conceals uneven plaster, so the walls around the door do not need to be made good afterwards. A fixed frame is cheaper to buy but requires an even wall and careful finishing where it meets the plaster. When installing several doors in a flat, tradespeople usually charge per door, around PLN 320, regardless of the type of frame.
How much does it cost to install concealed and sliding doors?
Installing concealed and sliding doors costs considerably more than installing standard internal doors, but we do not yet have separate medians for these types of installation. Concealed doors (flush, with no rebated edge) require an aluminium frame fitted before plastering and precise finishing of the wall, so they are best planned at the renovation stage. Wall-mounted sliding doors are quick to install, while pocket doors require a cassette fitted inside a partition wall. For either type, request an on-site quote, as the amount of work required around the opening determines the price.
How much does it cost to install doors in a flat: an example
Installing five internal doors in a typical flat (bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen) costs around PLN 1,600 in labour alone, and typically PLN 1,400 ‑ 2,000. If you are also replacing the entrance door, add around PLN 750 for its installation. You will also need to allow for:
- the price of the doors themselves, including frames, handles and hinges, which usually exceeds the installation cost,
- removal and disposal of the old doors, if not included in the tradesperson’s rate,
- plastering and painting around the new frames, especially after steel frames have been cut out,
- replacement of a lock or cylinder in any old door that remains, typically PLN 150 ‑ 255.
This example shows why it is worth comparing quotes for the entire flat rather than for a single door: a tradesperson with a full day’s work at one location is more likely to offer a discount.
When should doors be installed during a renovation?
Internal doors are installed at the very end of a renovation, after the walls have been painted and the flooring laid. The frame must be fitted on the finished floor, otherwise the gap beneath the door will be too large or too small and the door leaf will rub against the flooring. The exceptions are concealed doors, whose frames are fitted before plastering, and external doors, which are installed before finishing work in the house. Before ordering doors, wait until the walls and floors are finished and only then measure the openings.
How can you avoid overpaying for door installation?
- Measure the openings before buying the doors. Choosing the wrong size means widening the opening and incurring additional costs.
- Ask for a price for the entire service. Make sure the rate includes removal, disposal of the old doors, and installation of handles and trim.
- Have several doors installed at once. Labour for five internal doors costs around PLN 1,600, and it is easier to negotiate a discount on a larger job.
- Check the VAT rate. Installation in residential premises covered by Poland’s social housing programme is usually charged at a lower VAT rate than installation in business premises.
- Protect your warranty. External door manufacturers often make their warranty conditional on installation by an authorised team.
