- Comprehensive bicycle servicing with drivetrain cleaning and wheel truing costs around PLN 520.
- An electric bicycle inspection typically costs PLN 250 ‑ 450, while an extended inspection with computer diagnostics costs around PLN 850.

- The median price of a bicycle inspection is based on 4 repair shop price lists collected by indekscen.pl.

After spending the winter in a garage or on a balcony, a bicycle will usually still work, but the brakes may be less effective, the gears may skip and the chain may be dry. A pre-season inspection is the cheapest opportunity to repair minor faults before they lead to the replacement of the entire drivetrain. We checked repair shop price lists to find out how much basic and comprehensive servicing and an electric bicycle inspection cost, as well as what is usually added to the bill.
How much does pre-season bicycle servicing cost?
Pre-season bicycle servicing most often costs PLN 185 for a basic inspection, according to 4 repair shop price lists collected by indekscen.pl. Half of the prices fall within the range of PLN 125 ‑ 245. The cheapest inspection in the price lists costs PLN 50, but this usually only involves checking the bicycle without making any adjustments. The most expensive basic inspection costs PLN 320. Details and quotations from price lists are available on the bicycle servicing page.
During a basic inspection, the mechanic adjusts the brakes and gears, removes play from the hubs, bottom bracket and headset, and lubricates the drivetrain. This price does not usually include washing the bicycle, truing the wheels or parts. When comparing offers, ask exactly what the inspection includes, rather than relying solely on its name.
Basic or comprehensive servicing: which should you choose?
A basic inspection, typically costing PLN 125 ‑ 245, is sufficient for a bicycle that has been used recreationally for one season and has no obvious faults. Comprehensive servicing, which costs around PLN 520, also includes washing the bicycle, cleaning the drivetrain, truing the wheels and more thorough bearing maintenance. It is worthwhile once every few seasons or after intensive riding in muddy conditions.
| Scope of service | Typical price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Basic inspection | PLN 125 ‑ 245 | brake and gear adjustment, removal of play, lubrication |
| Comprehensive servicing | around PLN 520 | plus drivetrain cleaning and wheel truing |
| Kross warranty inspection | around PLN 115 | according to the manufacturer’s price list |
| Assembly of a new bicycle from the box | around PLN 250 | assembly and initial adjustment |
| Inner tube or tyre replacement | around PLN 55 | labour, excluding the inner tube and tyre |
| Suspension servicing | PLN 48 ‑ 185 | from maintenance to lower-leg servicing |
A full-suspension bicycle requires more work: it has front and rear suspension, as well as more bearings in the frame. Bicycle suspension servicing usually costs PLN 48 ‑ 185, while a complete rebuild with seal replacement costs around PLN 290. Find out more on the bicycle shock absorber servicing page.
How much does electric bicycle servicing cost?
An electric bicycle inspection most often costs PLN 300, typically PLN 250 ‑ 450, which is more than for a conventional bicycle. An electric bicycle is heavier and faster, so its brakes, chain and tyres wear out more quickly, while an extended inspection also includes computer diagnostics of the drive system and software updates. This type of extended servicing costs around PLN 850.
The price depends on the drive system (Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha, Bafang and others), as not every repair shop has a diagnostic tool for each brand. Chain sports shops usually have the same price list throughout Poland, while local repair shops provide individual quotations. An electric bicycle warranty inspection costs around PLN 185. Details are available on the electric bicycle inspection page.
| Electric bicycle inspection: option | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic service | PLN 300 | PLN 250 ‑ 450 | 3 |
| extended electric bicycle service | PLN 850 | PLN 850 | 1 |

What should you check on a bicycle after winter?
After winter, a bicycle most often needs its tyres inflated, its chain cleaned and lubricated, and its brakes adjusted. You can assess these things before visiting a repair shop. A quick check at home will also help you determine whether an inspection typically costing PLN 125 ‑ 245 will be sufficient or whether parts may need to be replaced.
- Tyres and inner tubes. Check the pressure, cracks in the sidewalls and tread wear. Labour for replacing an inner tube at a repair shop costs around PLN 55.
- Brakes. The pads should not be worn down to the metal, and the lever should not pull all the way to the handlebar.
- Chain and drivetrain. Rust, squeaking and skipping gears indicate that cleaning or a new chain is needed.
- Play. Hold the front wheel and move it from side to side. Also check the headset by holding the brake and rocking the bicycle back and forth.
- Lights and battery. On an electric bicycle, charge the battery before the season and check that it still provides the expected range.
How often should a bicycle be serviced?
A bicycle should be inspected once a year, preferably before the season, and additionally in the middle of the season if it is used intensively. A recreational bicycle covering several hundred kilometres a year will usually only need a spring inspection, typically costing PLN 125 ‑ 245. A bicycle used for daily commuting, a mountain bike or an electric bicycle needs more frequent inspections because its drivetrain and brakes operate under greater loads.
The first inspection of a new bicycle is usually carried out after a few weeks of riding or the first few hundred kilometres. This is when gear and brake cables stretch the most and the spokes settle into place. Many shops include this inspection in the price of the bicycle or offer it at a reduced rate, so keep your receipt and warranty card. Suspension requires separate servicing according to the manufacturer’s recommended riding-hour intervals, rather than once per season.
How long does bicycle servicing take?
Bicycle servicing usually takes one to two hours of work, but before the season you may often have to wait several days for collection because repair shops have queues. Comprehensive servicing with washing and wheel truing takes longer, as does an electric bicycle inspection with diagnostics. It is best to take your bicycle in for servicing in February or early March, before the weather gets warm.
Servicing a bicycle yourself or at a workshop: is professional servicing worthwhile?
Servicing a bicycle yourself is worthwhile for simple tasks: washing it, lubricating the chain, inflating the tyres and replacing an inner tube. All you need is chain lubricant, a pump with a pressure gauge and a basic set of tools. Adjusting gears and hydraulic brakes, removing play and truing wheels require experience and tools, so an inspection typically costing PLN 125 ‑ 245 is usually worthwhile in these cases.
Using a workshop is also worthwhile when the bicycle is under warranty, as an inspection at an authorised repair shop may be a condition of the warranty. Do not attempt to work on an electric bicycle’s motor or battery yourself: diagnostics require a dedicated tester, and unauthorised work may invalidate the warranty.
How can you avoid overpaying for bicycle servicing?
The bill from a bicycle repair shop increases mainly because of parts, so it is worth keeping track of what is being replaced:
- Ask for a quotation before the repair. A good repair shop will call before replacing the chain, cassette or cables.
- Ask what the inspection includes. The same name may refer to a completely different scope of work at two repair shops.
- Check for discounts for shop customers. Some repair shops charge less to inspect a bicycle purchased from them.
- Do not delay replacing the chain. A stretched chain damages the cassette and chainrings, which can mean replacing the entire drivetrain.
Repairs to other equipment used for getting around town are priced similarly: electric scooter repair usually costs PLN 90 ‑ 145 in labour. If you are planning an active season, see also our article on how much a yearly gym membership costs.
