Cat microchipping at a veterinary practice most often costs PLN 105, with half of the price lists falling within the PLN 100 ‑ 110 range. This usually includes the microchip, implantation by a vet and registration in an animal database. Many municipalities also run free microchipping schemes for cats and dogs.
At a glance (as at 5 October 2026)
- Cat microchipping at a veterinary practice usually costs PLN 100 ‑ 110, with a median price of PLN 105 based on price lists.
- Registering a cat's chip in a database is usually included in the microchipping price.
- Dog microchipping costs around PLN 145 at veterinary practices, while cat microchipping costs around PLN 105, although the procedure is the same.
- A cat vaccination costs around PLN 63 per dose, so it is worth having your cat microchipped during a vaccination appointment.
- Spaying a female cat usually costs PLN 225 ‑ 445, and municipal subsidy schemes often require the cat to be microchipped beforehand.

Microchipping is one of the least expensive veterinary procedures, and it provides something that a collar or ID tag cannot: a permanent number that can help reunite a lost cat with its owner. Below, we compile prices from public veterinary price lists and guides, examine what the price includes, when microchipping is free and how much a cat’s entire first year costs.
How much does cat microchipping cost in 2026?
Cat microchipping most often costs PLN 105 in 2026, with half of veterinary practices charging within the PLN 100 ‑ 110 range. This is the median from 4 sources collected by indekscen.pl. Details and quotations are available on the microchipping a cat page. The least expensive offers start at PLN 50, while the most expensive reach PLN 150.
The price usually includes:
- a microchip the size of a grain of rice,
- implantation by a vet,
- registration of the chip number in an animal database.
Price differences depend on the practice and region, the chip manufacturer and whether the vet registers the cat in the database. If you complete the registration yourself, the practice may charge less, while registration in nationwide databases is usually free.
How much does it cost to register a cat’s chip?
Registering a cat’s chip in a database is usually included in the microchipping price, which is typically PLN 100 ‑ 110. Without registration, the chip is useless: a scanner will display its number, but nobody will be able to link it to the owner. After the procedure, ask the vet to confirm that the details have been entered in the database or register the cat yourself. Update the information if you move house or change your phone number.

How much does a cat’s first year of veterinary care cost?
During its first year, a cat usually needs microchipping, a course of vaccinations, worming and neutering or spaying. Each item has a separate price in the practice’s price list. We do not combine them into a single amount because the number of vaccinations and worming treatments depends on the cat’s age and the vet’s recommendations. Typical items are listed below:
| Procedure | Typical price | How often in the first year |
|---|---|---|
| Cat microchipping | PLN 100 ‑ 110 | once for life |
| Cat vaccination | PLN 56 ‑ 69 per dose | several doses in a course for kittens |
| Worming | PLN 34 ‑ 43 per dose | several times, as recommended |
| Neutering a male cat | PLN 185 ‑ 250 | once |
| Spaying a female cat | PLN 225 ‑ 445 | once |
| Check-up | PLN 58 ‑ 120 | as needed |
Microchipping can be done during a vaccination or neutering appointment. This means you do not have to pay for a separate appointment, which usually costs PLN 80. When a female cat is spayed, the chip is often implanted while she is still under anaesthetic.
Is cat microchipping compulsory?
Cat microchipping is not compulsory everywhere, but the regulations are changing. The Act on the National Register of Identified Dogs and Cats (KROPiK) introduces a nationwide register and identification requirements that are being phased in and differ for dogs and cats. Some municipalities had already required microchipping under their local regulations or made it a condition of subsidies for spaying. Check the current requirements and deadlines with your municipal office or ask a vet.
A chip is required when taking a cat abroad because the animal’s passport is linked to its microchip number. We explain the procedure and its cost using a dog as an example in the article how to obtain a passport for a dog. The rules for cats are the same.
What is the penalty for not microchipping a cat, and what is the deadline?
A penalty for failing to microchip a cat applies only where cats are actually subject to an identification requirement under national legislation or a municipal resolution. The KROPiK Act provides for a fine for failing to comply with identification and registration requirements, while transitional provisions set the deadlines for animals that already have owners. In municipalities that have introduced their own requirement, the rules and penalties are set out in local regulations.
As the regulations are being phased in, we do not provide deadlines or fine amounts here. The simplest option is to ask your municipal office or a veterinary practice familiar with the local rules. Regardless of whether it is compulsory, the one-off cost of microchipping, usually PLN 100 ‑ 110, is small compared with the benefits if your cat goes missing.
Free cat microchipping: where and when?
Many municipalities offer free cat microchipping as part of their animal care programmes, usually for residents, once a year or until the supply of chips runs out. Instead of paying PLN 105 at a practice, you can visit a veterinary practice contracted by the municipality. To find such a scheme:
- Check the municipal office website under the environment or animals section.
- Ask your nearest veterinary practice whether it participates in a municipal microchipping scheme.
- Ask about spaying and neutering. Municipalities often combine free microchipping with a subsidy for neutering, which usually costs PLN 200 for a male cat and PLN 325 for a female cat.
- Bring proof of identity, as these schemes are usually available only to residents of the municipality.
What are the benefits of microchipping a cat?
Microchipping gives a cat permanent identification that it cannot lose like a collar. The chip number can be read with a scanner at a veterinary practice, animal shelter or municipal police office, and the database identifies the owner. This is particularly important for outdoor cats and cats that escape from their homes. A chip is also required for a passport and may be a condition for participating in municipal subsidy schemes for veterinary procedures.
What does cat microchipping involve?
Cat microchipping involves implanting a microchip in a glass capsule under the skin, usually on the left side of the neck, using a single-use needle. The procedure takes a few seconds and does not require anaesthesia. After implantation, the vet uses a scanner to check that the chip works and records the number in the cat’s health booklet. The chip has no battery or GPS and works throughout the animal’s life.
How can you avoid overpaying for cat microchipping?
- Check municipal schemes before paying at a veterinary practice.
- Combine microchipping with vaccination or neutering to avoid paying for a separate appointment.
- Ask whether database registration is included in the price. If not, complete it yourself.
- Compare local veterinary practices. Procedure prices range from PLN 50 to PLN 150.
