The cost of a diet plan from a dietitian is not a single amount, but several items: the initial consultation, a meal plan that may be charged separately, follow-up consultations and, for some diets, laboratory tests. Practices package these services differently, so two offers at the same price may include completely different things. Below, we break down the expense based on public price lists from dietitians and laboratories.
How much does a dietitian consultation cost?
An initial consultation with a dietitian most often costs PLN 215, according to 7 price lists and comparisons collected by indekscen.pl, while half of the offers fall within the range of PLN 205 ‑ 275. The cheapest consultations start at PLN 80, while the most expensive reach PLN 300. An initial consultation usually lasts from 45 to 90 minutes and includes a dietary assessment and discussion of your goals, as well as a body composition analysis at some practices.
Details and sources for the consultation price itself are available at dietitian appointment. In this article, we calculate the cost of the entire diet programme, including everything usually added to the initial consultation.
How much does a diet plan from a dietitian cost with a meal plan included?
A diet plan from a dietitian costs the price of the initial consultation (PLN 205 ‑ 275), plus a meal plan if it is not included, and follow-up consultations. Price lists show that a meal plan is often a separate, additionally charged item, while a complete package with a meal plan may cost considerably more than the consultation alone. We do not yet have separate median prices for meal plans or follow-up consultations, so we do not provide amounts for them.
Here is a breakdown of the typical items:
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Initial consultation | PLN 205 ‑ 275 | dietary assessment, goals, sometimes a body composition analysis |
| Meal plan | no separate median | often charged separately, ask before your consultation |
| Follow-up consultations | no separate median | packages of several consultations reduce the price per consultation |
| Full blood count | PLN 23 ‑ 29 | only if requested by a dietitian or doctor |
| Fasting glucose | PLN 14 ‑ 17 | as above |
| Insulin | PLN 63 ‑ 69 | as above |
| TSH | PLN 37 ‑ 41 | as above |
The most important advice is to ask the practice for a list of what is included in the price before booking. Asking whether the meal plan is included and how many days it covers prevents most misunderstandings.
Which tests should you have before seeing a dietitian, and how much do they cost?
The basic blood tests most commonly requested by dietitians individually cost from a dozen or so to several dozen PLN: a full blood count costs around PLN 25, fasting glucose around PLN 14, TSH around PLN 41 and insulin around PLN 66. The price mainly depends on the laboratory chain and collection point.
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dietitian appointment | PLN 215 | PLN 205 ‑ 275 | 7 |
| Full blood count | PLN 25 | PLN 23 ‑ 29 | 5 |
| Fasting glucose test | PLN 14 | PLN 14 ‑ 17 | 3 |
| Insulin level test | PLN 66 | PLN 63 ‑ 69 | 4 |
| TSH test | PLN 41 | PLN 37 ‑ 41 | 5 |

Not every diet requires tests. The data show that prior laboratory results are needed particularly for specialist diets, such as elimination-rotation diets, which increases the cost of preparing the plan. Ask your dietitian or doctor which tests you need, rather than having them done just in case. We discuss the prices of individual tests in our articles on glucose and insulin tests, TSH, FT3 and FT4 tests and a full blood count with differential.
What does a dietitian do at the initial consultation?
At the initial consultation, the dietitian conducts a dietary assessment and asks about your habits, health, medication and goals. At some practices, they also measure your body composition using special scales. This consultation usually costs PLN 205 ‑ 275 and lasts from 45 to 90 minutes. Depending on the practice, it ends with general recommendations or an agreed date when you will receive your completed meal plan.
What to bring to your initial consultation:
- Recent test results, if you have them, to avoid repeating tests unnecessarily.
- A list of medication and supplements, as these affect the recommendations.
- A record of what you eat on two or three typical days.
- Questions about the scope of the service: whether the meal plan is included, how much a follow-up consultation costs and what contact is available between consultations.
What affects the price of a dietitian?
The price of a dietitian primarily depends on the scope of the initial consultation and whether a body composition analysis is included, which explains the range from PLN 80 to PLN 300. Other factors identified in price lists include:
- City. Prices can be considerably higher in major cities than in smaller localities. We do not yet collect dietitian prices separately for individual cities.
- Consultation format. An online consultation may be cheaper than an in-person appointment.
- Length of the initial consultation, from 45 to 90 minutes, and the level of detail covered in the assessment.
- Type of diet. Specialist diets may require tests, and preparing the plan takes longer.
- A package instead of individual consultations. Buying several consultations at once usually reduces the price per consultation.
Online or in-person dietitian: which is cheaper?
An online dietitian is usually cheaper than an appointment at a practice because there are no travel costs or measurements using body composition scales. An in-person appointment typically costs PLN 205 ‑ 275. We do not yet have a separate median for online consultations, but price lists indicate that they may be cheaper. Online appointments work well for follow-up consultations, when the main purpose is to discuss the meal plan. However, some people prefer to attend a practice for the initial consultation because they immediately receive a body composition measurement as a reference point.
Is seeing a dietitian worth it?
Whether a dietitian is worth the cost is an individual decision, and we cannot make it for you. The data only tell us that an initial consultation usually costs PLN 205 ‑ 275, roughly the same as an appointment with a medical specialist. For comparison, private endocrinologist appointment has a median price of PLN 275. If the diet is related to a medical condition, such as thyroid disease or diabetes, start by seeing a doctor and treat the dietitian’s support as complementary.
When trying to lose weight, many people combine a diet with exercise. One session with a personal trainer costs around PLN 140, so with regular support, the trainer rather than the dietitian may be the larger item in the monthly budget. We calculate the cost of several sessions a week in our article on how much a personal trainer costs per month.
Who is entitled to see a dietitian through the NFZ?
A free dietitian consultation through the NFZ (Polish public health insurance) is available in specific situations, mainly to patients with certain chronic conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, when referred by a doctor. Ask your GP whether you are eligible. The NFZ also provides free general meal plans online, but they do not replace an individual plan. An initial private consultation usually costs PLN 205 ‑ 275.
How can you avoid overpaying for a diet plan?
- Compare what is included, not just the price. A consultation for PLN 80 without a meal plan may ultimately cost more than one for PLN 215 with a meal plan included.
- Ask about the price of a follow-up consultation before your initial consultation, as this is the fee you will pay most often.
- Consider a package if you are planning several appointments. The price per consultation is usually lower in a package.
- Do not repeat tests if your results are still current. Bring them to your consultation.
- Check how long support is available between consultations, including by e-mail or messenger and for meal plan revisions.
