How much does a 10 cm tattoo cost?

According to studio price lists, a tattoo measuring around 10 cm, which falls into the medium category of up to 12 cm, costs around PLN 800. This is roughly four times the price of a small design because a 10 cm tattoo takes longer, involves more linework and usually includes shading. A simple outline design of this size, such as lettering, a symbol or minimalist artwork, may be cheaper, while a heavily shaded or colour design will be noticeably more expensive.

For a tattoo of this size, studios most often quote a price for the complete piece after reviewing the design. It is worth bringing a sketch or photo with the dimensions in centimetres: a quote based on a description such as “a medium-sized upper-arm tattoo” can later change by several hundred PLN.

Tattoo prices by size: from 5 cm to a full sleeve

A small tattoo up to 5 cm usually costs PLN 200 ‑ 320 in Poland, while the median from 13 price lists collected by indekscen.pl is PLN 275. The cheapest studios start from PLN 150, while small designs at the most expensive studios cost up to PLN 600. The minimum charge means that even a very small design will not cost less, as the artist still needs to prepare the workstation and sterile materials.

Tattoo size and type Typical price How it is charged
Small, simple (up to 5 cm) PLN 200 ‑ 320 price per tattoo, often the minimum charge
Medium (up to 12 cm, e.g. 10 cm) around PLN 800 price per tattoo after the design is assessed
Shaded or colour, 12x18 cm around PLN 1,500 price per tattoo, sometimes two sessions
Large piece (back, sleeve, thigh) PLN 1,350 per session price for each session, usually several sessions

The key difference is that, up to around 12x18 cm, you pay for the finished tattoo, while studios charge by the session for larger pieces. The final cost of a sleeve or back piece therefore depends on the number of sessions, which the artist can only estimate.

What tattoo can you get for three hundred PLN, and what can you get for a thousand?

A budget equal to the median price of a small tattoo, around PLN 275, is enough for a simple black design up to 5 cm: lettering, a date, a symbol or a small piece of artwork on the wrist, ankle or behind the ear. The upper end of the range (PLN 200 ‑ 320) covers designs of the same size at studios with a higher minimum charge or with a small amount of shading.

A budget close to PLN 800 will cover a medium-sized tattoo of around 10 cm on the forearm, calf or shoulder blade. A colour or heavily shaded 12x18 cm design usually costs around PLN 1,500. If you want a large tattoo but have a limited budget, ask about dividing the work into sessions: you pay PLN 1,350 for each one, with enough time between them for the skin to heal.

What determines the price of a tattoo?

The price of a tattoo depends on five factors, and size is only the first:

  1. Size. Small (1 to 5 cm), medium (up to 12 cm) and large tattoos have completely different prices.
  2. Style and colour. A black-and-white outline is the cheapest, shading costs more, and colour and realism are the most expensive because they take the longest.
  3. Position on the body. Ribs, neck and hands are more difficult to tattoo, so the session takes longer.
  4. Artist and studio. A well-known tattoo artist with a waiting list several months long charges more than a beginner.
  5. City. Prices are usually higher in large cities than in smaller localities.

The price usually includes the design, stencil preparation and disposable materials: needles, inks, films and bandages. Ointment or film for aftercare at home is purchased separately. A touch-up after healing may be included, but ask about this before the session.

Tattoos for men, women and couples: does the price differ?

Tattoos for men and women cost the same when their size and technique are identical: studios do not have separate price lists for women and men. The difference comes from what people generally choose. Men are more likely to opt for larger, shaded designs on the forearm, upper arm or back, so they pay around PLN 800 or more. Women are more likely to choose small, fine-line designs within the PLN 200 ‑ 320 range.

A couples tattoo is effectively two small tattoos, so expect to pay twice the price of a small design, around PLN 550 based on the median. Some studios offer a small discount for two designs completed during one appointment because the workstation only needs to be prepared once.

How long does a 15 cm tattoo take, and how does this affect the price?

A 15 cm tattoo usually takes from a few hours for an outline alone to a full day for heavy shading or colour, and working time has the greatest effect on the price. For comparison, according to one studio’s price list, a small black-and-white design up to 4 cm takes around an hour and a half. A shaded or colour 12x18 cm design costs around PLN 1,500 because the artist spends many times longer on it. If the work cannot be completed in one day, the studio divides it into sessions, each costing around PLN 1,350. When planning a larger tattoo, also allow time for healing: the next session usually takes place only after several weeks.

How much does tattoo removal cost if you change your mind?

One laser removal session for a small tattoo costs around PLN 340, typically PLN 200 ‑ 495, while a session for a large tattoo costs around PLN 2,050. Usually, between several and more than ten sessions are needed, spaced several weeks apart, so tattoo removal often costs several times more than getting the tattoo. This is the best reason not to choose a studio based solely on the lowest price.

How can you avoid overpaying for a tattoo?

  • Provide the dimensions in centimetres and show where on the body you want it: the quote will be more accurate.
  • Ask about the minimum charge if the design is very small.
  • Ask about the deposit: studios usually collect one when you book an appointment and deduct it from the final price.
  • Check whether a touch-up is included in the price and how long you have to use it.
  • For a large piece, ask for an estimate of the number of sessions, not just the price of one.
  • Review portfolios in the style you want: good realism and good minimalism are different specialisms.
