A vasectomy is a male contraceptive procedure most commonly chosen by men who do not plan to have any more children. In Poland, it is performed by private urology clinics, so the price depends on the provider, while the procedure itself is usually accompanied by a consultation, tests and a follow-up. Below, we have compiled prices from public clinic price lists, calculated the full cost and answered the most common practical questions. Always discuss the indications, contraindications and effects of the procedure with a urologist.
How much does a vasectomy cost in Poland?
A vasectomy in Poland usually costs PLN 2,399 ‑ 3,000, while the median based on 5 price lists collected by indekscen.pl is PLN 2,500. The cheapest offers start at PLN 2,000, while the most expensive reach PLN 5,000.
Why do prices differ? The price depends mainly on the clinic and the team’s experience, and to a lesser extent on the city. Some providers charge the same price regardless of location and doctor, while others quote a starting price and determine the final amount after the consultation. Packages also vary: one clinic may include the consultation and follow-up semen analysis in the price, while another charges for them separately.
Quotes from clinic price lists are available on the vasectomy page.
How much does a vasectomy cost with the consultation and tests?
The full cost of a vasectomy is usually the price of the procedure (PLN 2,399 ‑ 3,000) plus items that some clinics charge for separately. Before comparing offers, check which of the following are included in the package:
| Stage | What it includes | Median | Typical |
|---|---|---|---|
| Urology consultation with ultrasound | assessment for the procedure, discussion, examination | PLN 350 | PLN 300 ‑ 350 |
| Consultation without ultrasound | discussion and physical examination | PLN 290 | |
| Testicular ultrasound (if ordered separately) | assessment of the scrotum before the procedure | PLN 150 | PLN 135 ‑ 190 |
| Vasectomy procedure | local anaesthetic, procedure | PLN 2,500 | PLN 2,399 ‑ 3,000 |
| Semen analysis after the procedure | confirmation of effectiveness | PLN 245 | PLN 245 ‑ 250 |
The cheapest option is a clinic that includes the consultation and follow-up test in the price of the procedure. If you pay for everything separately, the consultation and semen analysis add several hundred PLN to the bill. Consultation prices are detailed on the urologist appointment (with ultrasound) page, and ultrasound prices on the testicular ultrasound page.

| Vasectomy | PLN 2,500 | PLN 2,399 ‑ 3,000 | 5 |

What is the vasectomy process, step by step?
The vasectomy process usually consists of four stages, each of which may be priced separately:
- Urology consultation. The doctor discusses the decision, examines the patient and often performs an ultrasound scan. Privately, this usually costs PLN 300 ‑ 350.
- Time to decide. Some clinics recommend leaving time between the consultation and the procedure to ensure that the decision about permanent contraception is carefully considered. Clinics also usually ask the patient to provide written consent.
- Procedure. Performed as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthetic, for PLN 2,399 ‑ 3,000.
- Follow-up. A post-procedure appointment, which may be cheaper than the first or included in the price, and a semen analysis after several weeks.
It is worth bringing a list of the medicines you take to the consultation, especially anticoagulants, as well as information about previous procedures involving the groin and scrotum. You should also ask whether the clinic offers a single package price or charges separately for each appointment.
What does a vasectomy involve and how long does it take?
A vasectomy involves cutting and sealing the vas deferens, the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles into the semen. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and, according to information provided by clinics, usually takes around half an hour. The patient returns home the same day.
Clinics describe two techniques. The conventional method requires a small incision in the skin of the scrotum. A no-scalpel vasectomy involves accessing the vas deferens through a tiny opening, usually without stitches. Both have the same purpose, and the doctor decides which technique to use. The price listed by clinics usually does not depend on the method, as each clinic primarily uses one of them.
Do ejaculation and sex drive remain after a vasectomy?
Ejaculation still occurs after a vasectomy, and the semen looks similar to before, but contains no sperm. The procedure does not affect hormone production by the testicles, so according to clinics and doctors, it does not affect sex drive or erections.
If you have concerns about your sex life after the procedure, discuss them with the urologist during your assessment consultation. This is a good opportunity to ask questions, as the consultation is part of the overall cost of a vasectomy anyway.
How long does a vasectomy last and is it effective?
A vasectomy is one of the most effective methods of contraception, but it does not work from the first day and, like any method, does not provide an absolute guarantee. Sperm may remain in the semen for several weeks after the procedure, so clinics recommend a semen analysis several weeks afterwards. According to price lists, it costs around PLN 245. Only a result showing no sperm confirms that the procedure has been effective, and another form of contraception is required until then.
A vasectomy works long term: once its effectiveness has been confirmed, it does not need to be repeated or renewed, unlike methods that incur monthly costs. In rare cases, the vas deferens may spontaneously reconnect, which is why some doctors recommend repeating the semen analysis after a longer period. Ask your urologist about this. A vasectomy is regarded as a permanent method. A reversal procedure, which reconnects the vas deferens, is available, but it is more complex and its success is not guaranteed. We do not yet have prices for this procedure in the index.
What should you avoid after a vasectomy?
After a vasectomy, clinics usually recommend taking it easy for a few days. The most commonly listed recommendations are:
- Rest for the first few days and avoid standing for long periods.
- Do not lift heavy objects or exercise intensively for the period specified by your doctor, usually around a week.
- Wear close-fitting underwear to support the scrotum and use cold compresses for swelling.
- Avoid sexual intercourse for a few days, then use contraception until the semen analysis result is available.
- Contact your doctor if you develop a fever, worsening pain or significant swelling.
These are general recommendations from clinic materials. You will receive detailed instructions from the doctor performing the procedure, and you should follow their advice.
What are the disadvantages of a vasectomy?
The main disadvantage of a vasectomy is its permanence: the decision must be made with conviction, as reversing the procedure is difficult and expensive. Another disadvantage is the cost, which is paid entirely by the patient, usually PLN 2,399 ‑ 3,000 for the procedure alone. Temporary symptoms such as pain, swelling or bruising may occur afterwards, while longer-lasting pain is less common. A vasectomy also does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
How to avoid overpaying and make a sensible choice:
- Compare the full package, not just the price of the procedure: consultation, ultrasound scan, semen analysis and follow-up appointment.
- Ask about instalments. Some clinics work with companies that finance medical procedures.
- Check the doctor’s experience in performing vasectomies and the technique used.
- Ask what happens if the semen analysis result is unfavourable: whether another test or repeat procedure is included in the price.
