Circumcision is a procedure that is easier to read about than to ask about directly. It is most often performed for medical reasons, usually due to phimosis, and less commonly for religious or personal reasons. We collected prices from public clinic price lists and compared the methods, consultation costs and treatment options available through the NFZ. A doctor always decides on the indications and choice of method after an examination.

How much does private circumcision cost?

Private circumcision most often costs PLN 2,500, while the typical range according to 9 price lists collected by indekscen.pl is PLN 1,600 ‑ 3,000. The cheapest clinics charge from PLN 1,200 for conventional surgery, while the most expensive options, usually involving a laser or stapler, cost up to PLN 3,750. The price applies to an adult patient and usually covers the procedure itself with local anaesthesia.

Clinics price complicated cases individually, for example where there are foreskin adhesions or skin lesions requiring more extensive surgery. Price sources are available on the circumcision page.

How much do conventional, laser and stapler circumcision cost?

Conventional circumcision is the cheapest method and usually costs from PLN 1,200 to around the median of PLN 2,500. Stapler and laser methods are more expensive and sit at the upper end of the range, up to PLN 3,750. The difference is due to the cost of the disposable stapler or laser equipment, not the outcome itself.

Method or procedure Typical price Notes
Conventional circumcision (scalpel, sutures) from PLN 1,200 to PLN 2,500 most commonly performed method
Stapler circumcision closer to PLN 3,750 shorter procedure, disposable device
Laser circumcision closer to PLN 3,750 less bleeding during the procedure
Phimosis surgery (circumcision or preputioplasty) PLN 1,800 ‑ 2,550 extent depends on the degree of narrowing
Laser phimosis surgery around PLN 3,000 according to clinic price lists
Urology consultation with ultrasound scan PLN 300 ‑ 350 often required before eligibility is confirmed

It is worth discussing the choice of method with your doctor. A more expensive method does not automatically mean a better outcome, and for some indications the doctor will select a specific technique.

What does circumcision involve?

Circumcision involves surgically removing the foreskin, the fold of skin covering the glans of the penis. In adults, the procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia and takes approximately 30 minutes to one hour. The edges of the wound are closed with absorbable sutures or a stapler, and the patient goes home the same day.

Before the procedure, the doctor conducts a consultation and assesses the patient’s eligibility. urologist appointment (with ultrasound) with a basic ultrasound scan usually costs PLN 300 ‑ 350, while a consultation without an ultrasound scan costs around PLN 290. Some clinics include the eligibility assessment in the price of the procedure, so it is worth asking about this.

Circumcision and phimosis surgery: are they the same thing?

Phimosis surgery is a broader term than circumcision: for phimosis, the doctor may perform a full circumcision or preputioplasty, which widens the foreskin opening without removing it completely. phimosis treatment usually costs PLN 1,800 ‑ 2,550 privately, with a median of PLN 2,000. Prices vary widely: the cheapest procedures start at PLN 500, while the most expensive ones at large clinics cost up to PLN 5,500.

Does the NFZ cover circumcision?

The NFZ covers circumcision when it is medically indicated, most commonly for phimosis, recurrent inflammation or other foreskin conditions. A referral is required, usually from a urologist or surgeon, and the procedure is performed by a hospital urology or surgery department or an outpatient surgical clinic. Circumcision for religious, cultural or cosmetic reasons is not covered and must be performed privately.

How long is the waiting time for circumcision through the NFZ?

The waiting time for circumcision through the NFZ depends on the hospital and voivodeship: it may be several weeks at some facilities and several months at others. Current waiting times for specific hospitals can be checked using the NFZ treatment waiting-times search tool. Those who do not want to wait can choose a private procedure for PLN 1,600 ‑ 3,000.

What else appears on the bill?

In addition to the circumcision itself, priced at PLN 1,600 ‑ 3,000, the bill usually includes smaller items that are worth asking the clinic about before the procedure:

  • Eligibility consultation: around PLN 350 privately with an ultrasound scan, if not included.
  • Pre-operative tests: some clinics require basic blood tests, such as a full blood count and clotting tests.
  • Painkillers and dressings: purchased from a pharmacy after the procedure, usually at a modest cost.
  • Follow-up appointment: included in the price at many clinics, but charged as a standard consultation at others.
  • Travel: if you choose a clinic in another city, it is best not to drive after the procedure, so arrange transport in advance.

In practice, the most common difference between offers is not the price of the procedure itself, but what the clinic includes in the package. Two offers with the same price may differ by the cost of the consultation and follow-up, so compare the full cost of treatment.

How much time off work is needed after circumcision and phimosis surgery?

The doctor determines the length of medical leave after circumcision or phimosis surgery, depending on the healing process and type of work. People with office jobs may be able to return after a few days, while those with physically demanding jobs usually need more time off. Patients are also advised to avoid sex, swimming and strenuous activity for several weeks, but the treating doctor will always provide the specific instructions.

What are the disadvantages of circumcision?

The main disadvantages of circumcision are the risks associated with any surgical procedure: pain and swelling during the first few days, possible bleeding or wound infection, and the recovery time. Some men report a change in sensitivity of the glans. The procedure is irreversible, so for mild phimosis a doctor may first suggest conservative treatment or preputioplasty. It is best to discuss the risks in your particular case with a urologist.

What determines the price of circumcision?

The price of circumcision depends on several factors:

  1. Method: conventional surgery is the cheapest, while laser and stapler methods cost more.
  2. Indications and extent: adhesions or foreskin skin lesions require more extensive surgery and an individual quote.
  3. City and clinic: prices are higher in large cities, and prices between clinics in the same city can differ severalfold.
  4. What is included: the consultation, follow-up, suture removal, medication and dressings may be charged separately.
  5. Type of anaesthesia: local anaesthesia is standard and costs less than other options.

We do not yet have local circumcision prices for individual cities in the index, so compare offers with the national median of PLN 2,500.

How can you avoid overpaying for circumcision?

  • Ask for the price of the entire package: the consultation, procedure, follow-up and suture removal.
  • Ask why a particular method is recommended. If the doctor suggests laser or stapler circumcision, ask how it differs from conventional surgery in your case.
  • Check whether you are eligible for NFZ-funded treatment. For phimosis, the procedure may be free if you are prepared to accept the waiting time.
  • Ask about contact after the procedure. A good clinic provides a telephone number to call in case of bleeding or fever.
