The battery is the one part of an iPhone that always wears out, regardless of how carefully you handle the phone. After two or three years, the phone may switch off in freezing temperatures, slow down or fail to last until the evening. Replacing the battery is the cheapest way to extend its life. This is the median from 27 price lists collected by indekscen.pl, calculated for popular models from the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 14, with half of the offers falling within PLN 200 ‑ 395. The price includes a new battery, labour and usually a few months’ warranty on the service.

How much does an iPhone 14, 15 or 16 battery replacement cost?

An iPhone 14 battery replacement usually costs the same as for an iPhone 13, falling within PLN 200 ‑ 395. Prices rise for the iPhone 15 and 16: newer batteries cost more and independent repair shops have fewer of them in stock. Pro Max models cost the most because their batteries have a higher capacity.

The opposite is true for older models. The iPhone 11, XR, 8 and SE are phones for which battery replacement can be the cheapest, starting from PLN 90 at the least expensive repair shops. Here is a comparison of the price spread in our sources:

Apple or an independent repair shop: which should you choose?

Apple is the most expensive option: a battery replacement costs PLN 629, around twice the median charged by independent repair shops. In return, you get a genuine battery that the iPhone will recognise without displaying an unknown-part warning, as well as the manufacturer’s warranty.

An independent repair shop is cheaper and usually faster, but the quality depends on the battery. Before handing over your phone, ask three questions:

1. What battery do you install? A genuine Apple battery, a high-quality battery or a cheap replacement. This determines how long the battery will last.
2. Will a non-genuine-part warning appear after replacement? Newer iPhones display one in the settings if the battery is not paired. The phone continues to work but stops showing battery health.
3. What warranty do you offer? A reputable repair shop provides a few months’ warranty on the battery and labour.

If the phone is still under warranty or you have AppleCare+, go to an authorised service provider, as the replacement may be cheaper or free.

Is an iPhone battery replacement worth it?

Replacing an iPhone battery is worthwhile when the rest of the phone works properly: a cost of around PLN 299 is a fraction of the price of a new phone and can give the iPhone another two to three years of use. Replacement also removes the performance throttling that iOS activates when the battery is worn, so the phone runs smoothly again. That answers the question of whether replacing the battery helps.

Replacement is not worthwhile if the phone has a cracked casing, logic board problems or no longer receives system updates. In that case, it is better to put the money towards a newer model.

A battery health reading of 77 per cent is not good: the phone will work, but the loss of capacity will already be noticeable, so replacement is worthwhile.

How long does an iPhone battery replacement take?

An iPhone battery replacement at an independent repair shop usually takes around an hour if the battery is in stock. Some shops replace the battery while the customer waits. At an official Apple service provider, the time depends on part availability and appointment slots, and the phone may sometimes need to be left there for several days.

Before your appointment, back up your phone to iCloud, turn off Find My iPhone if the repair shop asks you to, and bring your charger if you want to test the phone immediately after the repair.

How should you care for a new battery so that it does not need replacing again in a year?

A new iPhone battery usually lasts two to three years, but its rate of wear depends mainly on heat and charging habits. A few habits can genuinely delay the next expense:

• Enable Optimised Battery Charging or set an 80 per cent limit in the battery settings. The battery ages fastest when it remains fully charged for long periods.
• Do not charge the phone in hot conditions. Charging in a car in direct sunlight or under a pillow heats the battery more than everyday use.
• Remove a thick case when charging wirelessly if the phone becomes noticeably hot.
• Do not let the phone discharge completely. Keeping the charge between around 20 and 80 per cent is healthiest for the battery.

A few days after replacement, check whether the settings show 100 per cent battery health (with a genuine battery) and whether the phone switches off at a low charge level. If anything is wrong, report it immediately under the repair shop’s warranty.
