Replacing a set of four tyres with balancing most commonly costs PLN 150 in Poland (typically PLN 130 ‑ 160). For large wheels, 20 inches and above, expect to pay around PLN 325.

Tyre replacement is one of the few car services we pay for regularly, twice a year, and one of the less expensive ones. Even so, workshop prices vary considerably, mainly because of three factors: wheel size, rim type and what the workshop includes in the price. Below, we compare prices from tyre workshop price lists and motoring guides that we have collected in the price index.

How much does tyre replacement with balancing cost?

The median price for replacing a set of four tyres is PLN 150. Half of the offers fall within PLN 130 ‑ 160, the lowest price we found is PLN 40, and the highest is PLN 300. This price includes removing the tyres from the rims, fitting new ones and balancing the wheels. It does not include repairing a damaged tyre or rim, servicing tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensors or seasonal tyre storage.

With two replacements a year, fitting winter tyres in autumn and summer tyres in spring, the annual cost is around PLN 300 (typically PLN 260 ‑ 320). This is a useful reference figure when considering all-season tyres: you save on workshop visits, but accept a compromise in both winter and summer.

How much does replacing tyres on alloy rims and large wheels cost?

Wheel size is the most important factor affecting the price. Price lists divide the service by rim diameter: small steel wheels, from 14 to 16 inches, are the cheapest, while each subsequent size increases the price. For large wheels, 20 inches and above, and premium rims, replacing a set costs around PLN 325, noticeably more than the median for a standard passenger car.

Why the difference? Large, low-profile tyres are harder to remove and fit without damaging the rim edge, requiring better equipment and more time. Alloy rims are easily scratched, so workshops charge extra for them. There are also pressure sensors that must not be damaged during fitting.

There is also a simple way to pay less: a second set of rims. If your winter tyres are fitted to separate rims, the workshop only needs to swap and balance the complete wheels instead of removing and fitting the tyres themselves. Price lists distinguish between these two services, so when asking for a quote, say whether you are bringing just the tyres or complete wheels.

How much does tyre replacement cost in Warsaw, Kraków and other cities?

We have local tyre replacement prices for 14 cities, usually from two to four workshops in each city. These are indicative figures, not a ranking: a single workshop with higher prices can shift the local median.

The median is PLN 160 in Warsaw, PLN 150 in Kraków, PLN 185 in Wrocław and PLN 145 in Gdańsk. For comparison, it is PLN 100 in Rzeszów and PLN 190 in Łódź. Differences between cities are smaller than you might expect: whether the price list includes balancing and which wheel size it covers matter more than the location. When comparing offers, always ask for the price of a set of four wheels in your size, including balancing.

How much does wheel balancing cost?

Balancing is usually included in tyre replacement, but it may also be needed separately, for example when the steering wheel vibrates at higher speeds or after a tyre repair. Balancing a set of four wheels with rims up to 16 inches costs PLN 115, typically PLN 105 ‑ 130.

Wheel size has an even greater effect here than it does on replacement prices. Balancing 17 to 19-inch alloy rims costs around PLN 175, while wheels of 20 inches and above cost around PLN 265. Some workshops offer road-force balancing, also known as Hunter balancing, which simulates the pressure of the wheel against the road. It costs extra but is worth considering if standard balancing has not eliminated the vibrations.

How much do tyre servicing and puncture repairs cost?

A nail in the tread does not necessarily mean you need a new tyre. Repairing the puncture itself, using a plug or an internal patch, usually costs PLN 65, typically PLN 50 ‑ 80. Tyre workshop price lists that cover the full service, including removing and refitting the wheel, show a median of PLN 80. A more durable hot repair costs around PLN 200.

The price increases with the wheel size, the location of the damage and the presence of a pressure sensor in the wheel. Remember that not every tyre can be repaired: sidewall damage or a large cut usually means that the tyre must be replaced. The tyre technician makes the decision after removing the tyre, so a quote given over the phone is only indicative.

Do the wheels need to be aligned when replacing tyres?

Not always, but it is worth keeping in mind. If new tyres wear unevenly or the car pulls to one side, the cause is often wheel alignment. wheel alignment for one axle usually costs PLN 155 (typically PLN 130 ‑ 195), full front and rear alignment costs around PLN 225, and an advanced 3D measurement around PLN 300. When buying a new set of tyres, this expense helps protect the more costly investment.

When should you replace your tyres to avoid queues?

Tyre workshops are busiest during the first frosts in autumn and on warm days in spring. Appointments are hard to find then, and some workshops do not offer discounts. A popular rule is to replace tyres when the temperature remains below 7 degrees for winter tyres and above 7 degrees for summer tyres. Those who book an appointment a week or two before the forecast cold spell will usually pay the same amount but avoid spending half a day in a queue.

How can you avoid overpaying for tyre replacement?

• Ask for the price of a complete set in your size. Prices advertised as ‘from’ usually apply to the smallest steel wheels.
• Check what the price includes. Balancing, new valves, servicing TPMS sensors and disposing of old tyres may be charged separately.
• Use a second set of rims. Swapping complete wheels is cheaper and quicker than removing and fitting the tyres themselves.
• Do not delay repairs. Patching a small puncture costs a fraction of the price of a new tyre, while driving on an underinflated tyre can ruin it.
