Complete suspension repair: 2026 cost, parts price list and example
indekscen.pl editorial team · published 30 September 2026 · prices according to the 5 October 2026 index
There is no single price for suspension repair because it involves replacing several components. Labour for replacing one control arm most often costs PLN 245 at a garage (typically PLN 150 ‑ 290), a pair of stabiliser links around PLN 210, and springs on one axle PLN 250 ‑ 750. Parts and wheel alignment must also be added, usually PLN 130 ‑ 195 per axle.
At a glance (as at 5 October 2026)
- Labour for replacing one control arm at a garage usually costs PLN 150 ‑ 290, with a median of PLN 245.
- Replacing a pair of stabiliser links costs around PLN 210 and is the cheapest common suspension repair.
- Replacing the suspension springs on one axle usually costs PLN 250 ‑ 750, depending on the suspension type.
- After replacing control arms or steering rods, the wheels must be aligned, which usually costs PLN 130 ‑ 195 per axle.
- The median labour cost for a control arm comes from 6 price lists and articles collected by indekscen.pl.

Almost every driver who hears knocking over bumps asks, “how much does suspension repair cost?”. The garage will usually answer “it depends”, because the suspension consists of more than a dozen components, each listed separately in the price list. We break them down using public garage price lists, making it easy to check a quote and avoid paying for something that was not faulty.
How much does a complete suspension repair cost?
A complete suspension repair is the sum of several replacements, each charged separately: according to 6 price lists collected by indekscen.pl, labour for one control arm usually costs PLN 150 ‑ 290, while one shock absorber costs PLN 80 ‑ 100. The bill can only be calculated once it is known which components have play. In practice, the “entire suspension” rarely needs replacing at once: stabiliser links, control arm bushes and track rod ends usually fail most often, while shock absorbers and springs last longer.
These are the labour prices for the individual components:
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car suspension repair and replacement | PLN 245 | PLN 150 ‑ 290 | 6 |
| Control arm bush and ball joint replacement | PLN 300 | PLN 130 ‑ 415 | 7 |
| Shock absorber replacement | PLN 90 | PLN 80 ‑ 100 | 5 |
| Suspension spring replacement | PLN 365 | PLN 250 ‑ 750 | 5 |
| Anti-roll bar link replacement | PLN 210 | PLN 185 ‑ 230 | 2 |
| Steering tie rod replacement | PLN 115 | PLN 90 ‑ 130 | 3 |
| Wheel bearing replacement | PLN 265 | PLN 220 ‑ 275 | 5 |
| Wheel alignment | PLN 155 | PLN 130 ‑ 195 | 4 |
Median and typical range from public price lists, as at 5 October 2026. Each price includes a source and quotation on the service page.
Pay attention to the units: for a control arm, shock absorber, steering rod and bearing, the price applies to one item or one wheel; for springs, it covers the entire axle; and for stabiliser links, a pair. Control arm bushes are listed together with the part, while the other items are mainly labour.
Example: how much does a front suspension repair cost?
A front suspension repair involving a typical set of faults (two control arms, a pair of stabiliser links and wheel alignment) comprises several separate items on the bill. We show them in a table because we do not add together medians for different services: each comes from different price lists.
| Item on the bill | Labour according to price lists | Additional costs |
|---|---|---|
| Two control arms (left and right) | around PLN 490 | two control arms as parts |
| Stabiliser links (pair) | around PLN 210 | often including parts |
| Two track rod ends | around PLN 230 | track rod ends as parts |
| Two front shock absorbers | around PLN 180 | shock absorbers, bump stops, covers |
| Front axle alignment | PLN 130 ‑ 195 | nothing, this is a service |
If the springs also need replacing, add PLN 250 ‑ 750 per axle. Parts for a popular compact car can cost as much as the labour, and considerably more for premium cars with aluminium control arms.
How much does a mechanic charge to replace control arms?
A mechanic most often charges PLN 245 in labour alone to replace one control arm, with a typical range of PLN 150 ‑ 290. The cheapest price lists with “from” prices start lower: the median of the lowest rates for replacing a control arm is PLN 55 per item. However, this is the price for a simple control arm in a simple suspension system, without seized bolts. The most expensive cases, costing up to PLN 700, involve multi-link suspension systems, where several control arms operate at each wheel.
What affects the cost of replacing a control arm:
- Control arm material. Aluminium control arms are more expensive to fit than steel ones, while seized bolts in steel arms can extend the job.
- Suspension type. A MacPherson strut is simpler than multi-link suspension (e.g. in Audi, BMW and Mercedes cars).
- Number of items. Replacing both control arms on an axle is cheaper per item because some of the work only needs to be done once.
- Wheel alignment. The wheel alignment must be adjusted after replacing a control arm, which is charged separately.
- City and garage. Rates in Warsaw are usually higher than in smaller towns and cities.
We cover the details of replacing the bushes alone in the article control arm bush replacement: price.
Replace or refurbish a control arm?
Control arm refurbishment, meaning replacing a bush or ball joint, usually costs PLN 130 ‑ 415 for one bush including the part, so for an inexpensive control arm it may cost more than replacing the entire component. Refurbishment makes sense when the control arm is expensive (aluminium, for a premium car) and is otherwise in good condition. If the control arm is corroded or the ball joint has play, and a new control arm is inexpensive, replacing the whole unit is simpler.
The refurbishment price depends on which bush is worn. According to the price lists collected on control arm bush and ball joint replacement, a pair of bushes on one axle costs around PLN 615, while a less accessible rear bush of the front control arm costs around PLN 575 per side. Labour alone, excluding parts, costs around PLN 300 for one side of the car. The bush must be pressed in with a hydraulic press, so the garage still has to remove the control arm from the car: this is why the difference between refurbishment and replacing the entire control arm can be smaller than it seems.
What are the symptoms of damaged suspension?
The most common symptom of damaged suspension is knocking over bumps, followed by the car pulling to one side and uneven tyre wear. The symptom can provide an initial indication of which component is worn:
- Knocking over potholes and speed bumps: usually stabiliser links (inexpensive to repair) or control arm bushes.
- Play and vague steering: track rod ends or steering rods; steering tie rod replacement costs around PLN 115 per item.
- The body bouncing after bumps and a longer braking distance: worn shock absorbers, covered in more detail in the article front and rear shock absorber replacement.
- A humming noise that increases with speed: a wheel bearing, replacement usually costs PLN 220 ‑ 275 per wheel.
- The car is sagging at one corner: a broken spring.
- Tyres wearing along the inner edge: incorrect wheel alignment or play in a control arm.
Knocking from the steering system can also come from the steering rack. This is a more expensive repair, which we cover in the article steering rack replacement: cost.
Is wheel alignment necessary after suspension repair?
The wheels must be aligned after replacing a control arm, steering rod or track rod end because these components affect the toe alignment. wheel alignment for one axle usually costs PLN 130 ‑ 195, full front and rear wheel alignment around PLN 225, and 3D wheel alignment around PLN 300. Wheel alignment is not necessary after replacing only stabiliser links or a shock absorber in many cars, but it is worth asking the mechanic.
Skipping wheel alignment is a false economy: incorrectly aligned wheels can wear out tyres within a few thousand kilometres.
How long does suspension repair take?
Replacing stabiliser links usually takes several dozen minutes, one control arm takes one to two hours, and springs on one axle take one to three hours. A comprehensive front suspension repair with wheel alignment most often takes one day at the garage. It takes longer when the bolts are seized by corrosion and have to be cut out.
If the garage charges by the hour, the hourly labour rate is useful: at an independent garage, this is usually PLN 150 ‑ 215. Read more about rates in the article mechanic’s hourly labour rate: independent garage or authorised dealership.
How can you avoid overpaying for suspension repair?
- Ask for a diagnosis on shaker plates (plates used to detect play) and ask to be shown the play. It is easy to replace a component that still works “while they are at it”.
- Ask for separate prices for labour and parts. Garage price lists usually state labour costs only.
- Combine replacements on the same axle. Replacing control arms, stabiliser links and steering rods together requires one wheel alignment rather than several.
- Replace in pairs shock absorbers and springs on the same axle, otherwise the car will not handle evenly.
- Have the suspension checked during the vehicle inspection. The inspector checks for play anyway, so you will know what to report to the mechanic. Inspection costs are covered in the article how much does a vehicle inspection cost.
