The UDT forklift truck exam is not difficult for someone who has studied the course materials and practised the manoeuvres, although the commission expects accuracy. The exam has two parts. The theory section consists of a test and questions from a commission member about forklift construction, daily pre-work checks and safety rules. The practical section involves driving with a load, placing a pallet on racking and explaining the checks carried out before starting the forklift. The most common reasons for failing are skipping the pre-drive inspection or operating the mast without confidence.
