How do you calculate the required length of skirting board?
Skirting boards are measured in linear metres: the perimeter of the room minus the width of the door. A room measuring 4 by 5 metres has a perimeter of 18 metres, leaving about 17 linear metres of skirting board after subtracting the doorway. When buying the boards, add one spare length for cuts and corners, as some material is wasted at every corner.

Installing MDF, PVC or wooden skirting boards: how do the prices differ?
Installing MDF and PVC skirting boards usually costs the standard rate of 26 ‑ 33 PLN/linear metre, while installing wooden boards costs around 58 PLN/linear metre. The difference comes down to the work involved: wood must be mitre-cut precisely, fitted to uneven walls and often sanded at the joints.
- PVC skirting boards. The lightest and quickest to install, often using clips or wall plugs, with ready-made corners and connectors. Labour is cheaper, but the connectors remain visible.
- MDF skirting boards. Tall and smooth, usually fixed with adhesive. They require mitre cuts and acrylic sealant at the joints, but provide an elegant finish.
- Wooden skirting boards. The most expensive in terms of both materials and labour, at around 58 PLN/linear metre. They complement wooden flooring and parquet.

Other factors affecting the price include:
- Number of corners. Every corner requires a mitre cut and careful fitting, so a room with recesses costs more than a rectangular one.
- Profile height and hardness. Tall MDF boards and hardwood take longer to cut.
- Condition of the walls. Uneven walls require additional pressure and more acrylic sealant to fill gaps.
- Region and installation team. In large cities, rates are closer to 55 PLN/linear metre.

Which skirting boards should you choose for laminate, wooden flooring and tiles?
MDF or PVC skirting boards are the most common choices for laminate and vinyl flooring, with installation costing around 28 PLN/linear metre per linear metre. Tall, white MDF boards make a room appear higher and suit almost any floor. PVC boards matching the colour of the laminate are cheaper and moisture-resistant, making them suitable for hallways and kitchens where floors are washed frequently.
Wooden skirting boards made from the same species or painted white suit wooden flooring and parquet, and cost around 58 PLN/linear metre to install. With tiled floors, a skirting course made from cut tiles is often used instead. This is installed by a tiler rather than a skirting board team. Before buying boards, check whether they have a cable channel, as this makes it easier to run cables from a television or router without cutting into the walls.
How much does it cost to remove skirting boards?
