Diesel injector reconditioning: 2026 price for a set of 4

indekscen.pl editorial team · published 30 September 2026 · prices according to the 5 October 2026 index

Reconditioning a diesel injector most often costs PLN 200 per unit (typically PLN 150 ‑ 340), so a set of four injectors costs around PLN 800, usually PLN 600 ‑ 1,400. You also need to add removal and fitting at the garage and diagnostics, while testing and cleaning an injector alone costs around PLN 45.

At a glance (as at 5 October 2026)

  • Reconditioning one diesel injector usually costs PLN 150 ‑ 340, with a median of PLN 200.
  • Reconditioning a set of four injectors costs around PLN 800, excluding removal and fitting.
  • Testing and cleaning an injector without repairs costs around PLN 45 per unit.
  • Computer diagnostics for a car before deciding on reconditioning usually costs PLN 150 ‑ 185.

Diesel injectors can fail gradually: first the engine becomes slightly harder to start, then it begins to smoke and jerk, and eventually the engine warning light comes on. The garage recommends “reconditioning”, but the figures in price lists can differ severalfold. We break the cost down into its components: repairing one injector, a full set, diagnostics and fitting, based on diesel service price lists.

How much does it cost to recondition 4 injectors?

Reconditioning four diesel injectors costs around PLN 800, or PLN 600 ‑ 1,400 at typical rates. The median per injector is PLN 200, based on 7 price lists collected by indekscen.pl. The most expensive repairs, costing up to PLN 600 per injector, involve piezoelectric injectors and repairs requiring the replacement of multiple components.

The cost by scope of work is as follows:

Scope One injector Set of 4 injectors
Testing and cleaning, without repairs around PLN 45 multiplied by four
Reconditioning, typical price PLN 150 ‑ 340 PLN 600 ‑ 1,400
Reconditioning, median PLN 200 PLN 800
Most expensive repairs (piezo, multiple parts) up to PLN 600 several times the median

Add the cost of removing and fitting the injectors in the car. Some diesel specialists do this on site, while others accept injectors alone by courier, with your mechanic carrying out the replacement at their hourly rate.

How much does common rail injector reconditioning cost?

Reconditioning common rail injectors usually costs PLN 150 ‑ 340 per unit, which matches the typical range in our data because most modern diesel engines use common rail systems. Electromagnetic injectors, including popular Bosch and Delphi models, are cheaper to repair. Piezoelectric injectors fitted to newer engines cost more to repair and cannot always be reconditioned.

Older unit injectors (PD engines) and mechanical injectors have separate service price lists, but fall within a similar range. The final price can only be determined after testing on a test bench, as the service centre needs to identify which component is worn: the nozzle, valve or coil.

Is injector reconditioning worthwhile?

Injector reconditioning is worthwhile in most cases because it costs a fraction of the price of a new injector. The median of PLN 200 per unit is usually several times less than a new part for a popular diesel model. It is not worthwhile if the injector body is mechanically damaged or if parts are unavailable for that type. In this case, the options are a new injector or a factory-reconditioned injector supplied under an exchange scheme.

Neglecting leaking injectors costs more than repairing them. An injector supplying too much fuel dilutes the oil, while excess fuel and soot clog the diesel particulate filter and EGR valve. dPF cleaning for cleaning alone has a median price of PLN 600, while eGR valve cleaning costs around PLN 550. Read more about the filter in our article on DPF cleaning with fitting.

How can you tell whether injectors need replacing?

Injectors should be checked if the engine is difficult to start, runs unevenly at idle or emits black exhaust smoke. Typical symptoms of worn injectors include:

  1. Difficulty starting, particularly when the engine is warm.
  2. Uneven running and vibration at idle, and knocking when the engine is cold.
  3. Black smoke during acceleration and higher fuel consumption.
  4. Loss of power and the engine entering limp mode.
  5. Engine warning light and injector correction errors in the engine control unit.
  6. Rising oil level, which may indicate that an injector is supplying too much fuel.

Glow plugs, the turbocharger and sensors can cause similar symptoms, so start with diagnostics. car computer diagnostics typically costs PLN 150 ‑ 185 and, for a diesel engine, includes reading injector correction values and performing a leak-off test to identify which injector is outside the normal range.

How much does petrol injector reconditioning cost?

Petrol injector reconditioning usually costs less than diesel injector reconditioning, towards the lower end of the range, from PLN 50 to around PLN 200 per unit. A petrol injector operates at a much lower pressure and has a simpler design, so ultrasonic cleaning, replacement of the filter basket and O-rings, and a spray-pattern test are usually sufficient. Cleaning with testing alone costs around PLN 45 per unit.

The exceptions are direct-injection petrol engines, with designations such as TSI, FSI and GDI. Their injectors operate at high pressure and are closer to diesel injectors in both design and repair cost. In cars with LPG systems, it is also worth checking the gas injectors, as the symptoms, including jerking and uneven running, can be similar.

Reconditioning or an exchange injector: which should you choose?

An exchange injector is an already reconditioned unit supplied in return for your old one, reducing the car’s downtime to a single visit. It may cost more than reconditioning your own injector, but there is no need to wait for the repair. It is a sensible option if you need the car every day or if your injector cannot be repaired. Reconditioning your own injector is cheaper and lets you know exactly what was repaired.

How long does diesel injector reconditioning take?

Diesel injector reconditioning usually takes from one to several working days, including testing, repairs and retesting. Some service centres offer a one-day express service if the required parts are in stock. Courier delivery adds two or three days to the process. Removing and fitting injectors in the car usually takes several hours, or longer if they are seized in the cylinder head.

How long does a reconditioned injector last?

A properly reconditioned injector can last as long as a new one, for many tens of thousands of kilometres, provided that clean fuel is used and the fuel filter is replaced regularly. Service centres usually provide a warranty lasting from several months to over a year. Ask about it before commissioning the work and request printouts of the test results from before and after the repair.

What determines the price of injector reconditioning?

The price of reconditioning an injector depends primarily on its type and the extent of the fault. The main factors are:

  • Manufacturer and type: Bosch, Delphi, Denso, Continental (Siemens), electromagnetic or piezoelectric.
  • Scope of repair: testing alone, cleaning, nozzle replacement or a full repair including the valve.
  • Fuel: petrol injectors are simpler and cheaper to repair than diesel injectors.
  • Coding: after repair, the injector receives a new code that must be entered into the engine control unit.
  • Service centre and region: prices vary between garages, hence the range from PLN 50 to PLN 600.

How can you avoid overpaying for injector reconditioning?

  • Test first, then decide. Ask for a printout of the test results for each injector. If three are working correctly, you only pay to repair one.
  • Ask for the price per injector and a separate fitting price. A mechanic’s labour has a median hourly rate of PLN 175 at an independent garage.
  • Replace the washers and mounting bolts. They cost very little, while old washers can cause leaks and combustion gas blow-by.
  • Check whether injector coding in the engine control unit is included in the price.
  • Do not undermine the reconditioning by using cheap fuel. Contaminated fuel and a neglected filter are the most common causes of another failure.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to recondition Bosch injectors?

How much does a mechanic charge to replace injectors?

Demontaż i montaż wtryskiwaczy warsztat liczy zwykle według roboczogodziny, której mediana w niezależnym warsztacie wynosi PLN 175. W ASO stawka to około PLN 465.

How much does it cost to recondition petrol injectors?

Do all injectors need to be reconditioned at the same time?

Nie zawsze. Test na stole pokazuje, który wtryskiwacz odbiega od normy, i można naprawić tylko ten. Przy dużym przebiegu serwisy często radzą jednak zregenerować komplet, żeby dawki paliwa na cylindrach były równe.

How much does a new injector cost instead of reconditioning?
