Windows in a flat are replaced once every few decades, so few people remember what it cost last time. Quotes are also difficult to compare: one company gives the price of the window alone, another includes the window and installation, and a third offers a complete package with window sills and finishing around the reveals. We break the cost down into its components based on price lists and guides collected by indekscen.pl.
How much does replacing windows in a block of flats cost?
Replacing a PVC window in a block of flats most often costs PLN 2,350 per unit, including the window, removal of the old frame and installation, while half of the sources fall within the range PLN 2,300 ‑ 2,600. This amount consists of two items: the PVC window itself, around PLN 2,050, and installation labour, around PLN 275 per window.
A typical flat in a block has three or four windows and one balcony exit. For four windows, the bill is around PLN 9,400 at the median price (typically PLN 9,200 ‑ 10,000), while balcony doors with installation are a separate item costing around PLN 4,200. A studio flat with two windows costs around PLN 4,700.

How much does replacing windows in a house cost?
Replacing all the windows in a 100 to 120 m² detached house, usually 12 to 14 windows, costs around PLN 29,000 according to an example from price lists. The cost for a house is higher than for a flat not only because of the number of windows: non-standard windows, large terrace glazing, roof windows and warm multi-layer installation, which is required for a grant under the Clean Air programme, are also more common.
Roof windows are a separate expense. The labour alone for roof window installation has a median price of PLN 1,000 per unit (typically PLN 1,000 ‑ 1,200), excluding the price of the window and flashing. Replacing a roof window in an existing opening is cheaper than installing a new one because the rafters do not need to be moved.
What is included in the cost of replacing a window, and what is not?
The cost of replacing a window usually includes removing the old window, installing the new one and basic sealing with foam and tapes. Cheaper quotes may exclude plaster finishing around the reveals, internal and external window sills, removal of old frames and rubble, and blinds or shutters. These items most often come as a surprise when the work is completed.
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Window replacement | PLN 2,350 | PLN 2,300 ‑ 2,600 | 4 |
| Internal window sill installation | 130 PLN/linear metre | 110 ‑ 135 PLN/linear metre | 5 |
| External window sill installation | 115 PLN/linear metre | 92 ‑ 130 PLN/linear metre | 4 |
| Blind installation | PLN 120 | PLN 110 ‑ 135 | 3 |
| Roof window installation | PLN 1,000 | PLN 1,000 ‑ 1,200 | 5 |
Median and typical range from public price lists, as at 5 October 2026. Each price includes a source and quotation on the service page.
Window sills are priced per linear metre. Labour for internal window sill installation an internal window sill has a median price of 130 PLN/linear metre, while external window sill installation costs 115 PLN/linear metre. With four windows around 1.5 m wide, this comes to 6 m of window sill on each side, or around PLN 780 for installing internal window sills and around PLN 690 for external ones, excluding the price of the window sills themselves.
Blinds and shutters are often installed together with the windows. blind installation an internal blind has a median price of PLN 120 per unit, installing an external shutter costs around PLN 300, while an external shutter with installation in an adaptive system costs around PLN 950 per window.
How much does one 150x150 plastic window cost?
A two-sash 150 x 150 cm plastic window with installation usually falls in the upper part of the price range for a PVC window, closer to PLN 3,900 than PLN 1,200, if it is triple-glazed, fitted using warm installation and includes complete plaster finishing. It is larger than a standard window in a block of flats, and the price rises with the area of glass and number of sashes.
Price lists quote triple-glazed windows bought without installation by the square metre: around 1,000 PLN/m². A 150 x 150 cm window has an area of 2.25 m², so the window alone will cost more than twice this rate, with installation at around PLN 275 added afterwards. The difference is smaller for an ordinary double-glazed window.
Is it worth replacing double-glazed windows with triple-glazed ones?
Replacing functional double-glazed windows with triple-glazed ones rarely pays for itself through heating savings alone, because the difference in heat loss through the glass is small compared with the cost of a new window. It makes sense when the windows need replacing anyway, when you live beside a busy street (triple glazing reduces noise more effectively), or when you are building an energy-efficient house.
If the windows are in good condition but there is a draught, start with less expensive repairs. seal replacement in uPVC windows has a median price of PLN 110 per window, while window pane replacement (an insulated glass unit) costs around PLN 400. This is a fraction of the price of a new window.
How can you tell when windows need replacing?
Windows need replacing when air still comes through the frame despite adjusting the fittings and installing new seals, when condensation appears inside the glazing unit between the panes, or when the frame is cracked or rotten (in wooden windows). PVC windows usually last 25 to 35 years, and well-maintained wooden windows have a similar lifespan.
Check the following in order:
- A draught with the window closed. Adjust the fittings and replace the seals first, and only then consider replacement.
- Condensation between the panes. The glazing unit has lost its seal. Only the glass unit needs replacing, not the entire window.
- Fittings that no longer hold properly. The sash sags or the handle sticks. Servicing is often enough.
- Mould on the reveals and around the frame. This may indicate a thermal bridge caused by poor installation rather than a defective window.
- Age and condition of the frame. Windows from the 1990s have poor insulation, and replacement parts are often no longer available.
How long does replacing windows in a block of flats take?
Replacing one window in a block of flats usually takes 2 to 4 hours: removing the old window, fitting the new frame, and applying foam and tapes. A team can replace three or four windows in a flat in one day. Plaster finishing around the reveals needs time to dry and often requires a return visit the following day. The wait for the window itself is longer because it is made to measure, usually several to a dozen or so weeks from measurement.
How can you avoid overpaying for window replacement?
- Compare quotes with the same scope. Ask for a breakdown covering the window, installation, window sills, finishing around the reveals and removal of the old frames.
- Ask about the type of installation. Warm multi-layer installation costs more, but without it securing a grant is difficult and thermal bridges are more likely.
- Check the rules of the housing cooperative or owners’ association. The colour of the frame on the outside and the division of the sashes may be prescribed, and making changes afterwards is costly.
- Combine the work. Replacing windows before painting the walls and fitting new window sills avoids doing the work twice. We break down the cost of the entire renovation in the article how much does renovating a flat cost, and the cost of replacing doors in door installation, price.
- Ask about financial support. In detached houses, window replacement is covered by the Clean Air programme, while residents of blocks of flats should ask their municipality (gmina) about grants for improving the energy efficiency of flats.

Why do window prices vary so much?
Window replacement prices range from PLN 1,200 to PLN 3,900 per unit, mainly because of the frame material (PVC is the least expensive, while wood and aluminium cost more), the number of panes, the type of installation (standard or warm multi-layer installation), and whether the price includes finishing around the reveals and window sills. Window size also matters: a balcony or terrace window costs more than an ordinary kitchen window.
Unlike guides found through search engines, we provide the median from multiple sources and separately priced variants, making it easy to check whether a quote is typical. The full data, including quotations and dates, are available on the window replacement page.
