ID card photo: 2026 price, photographer, photo booth and requirements
indekscen.pl editorial team · published 30 September 2026 · prices according to the 5 October 2026 index
A set of ID card photos from a photographer in Poland most often costs PLN 50 (typically PLN 45 ‑ 52). A photo booth costs around PLN 24, while printing a photo from your own file costs around PLN 14. The ID card itself is issued free of charge, so the photo is usually the only expense.
At a glance (as at 5 October 2026)
- A set of ID card photos from a photographer usually costs PLN 45 ‑ 52, with a median of PLN 50.
- An ID card photo from a photo booth costs around PLN 24.
- Printing an ID card photo from your own file, without a session with a photographer, costs around PLN 14.
- A digital document photo without prints costs around PLN 20.
- ID cards are issued and replaced free of charge, while the fee for an adult passport is PLN 140.

The photo is usually the only expense when replacing an ID card, as the document itself is issued free of charge. Photo prices can vary severalfold, however: a photographer offering retouching charges differently from a photo booth in a shopping centre or a service printing a photo taken at home. We have collected prices from public price lists and articles, followed by the requirements that can cause an office to reject a photo.
How much does an ID card photo from a photographer cost?
ID card photos from a photographer most often cost PLN 50 per set, according to 3 sources collected by indekscen.pl. Half of the prices fall within the PLN 45 ‑ 52 range, the cheapest offers start at PLN 30, and the most expensive reach PLN 70. This price usually includes 4 or 6 prints of a biometric photo, taken and cropped to meet the requirements.
Prices are very similar for document photograph in general, including those for passports, driving licences and student ID cards: the median is PLN 46. Many studios charge the same price for all ID photos because the format and rules are identical.
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identity card photograph | PLN 50 | PLN 45 ‑ 52 | 3 |
| Document photograph | PLN 46 | PLN 41 ‑ 51 | 4 |

Photographer, photo booth or your own file: which is cheaper?
The cheapest option is printing a photo from your own file, at around PLN 14, followed by a photo booth at around PLN 24, while a photographer is the most expensive, usually costing PLN 45 ‑ 52. The difference depends on who is responsible for ensuring that the photo meets the requirements.
| Option | Price | What to look out for |
|---|---|---|
| Photographer, set of prints | PLN 45 ‑ 52 | retouching may cost extra |
| Photo booth | around PLN 24 | you position yourself and adjust the lighting |
| Printing from your own file | around PLN 14 | the file must meet the requirements |
| Digital photo | around PLN 20 | for an online application |
A photographer adjusts the lighting and checks the background and facial proportions. If the office raises any issues, many studios will correct the photo at no extra charge. A photo booth is quick and cheaper, but its photos are more likely to have shadows on the background or show a tilted head. Your own photo is the least expensive option, provided you know how to take it correctly.
What are the requirements for an ID card photo?
An ID card photo must measure 35x45 mm, have a light, plain background and show your face straight on, with your eyes open and mouth closed. It must have been taken within the past 6 months and accurately reflect your current appearance. The other official requirements are:
- Neutral facial expression, without smiling, with your head straight and not tilted.
- Entire face visible, from the top of your head to the upper part of your shoulders, with no hair covering your eyes.
- Even lighting, without shadows on your face or the background and without red-eye.
- Prescription glasses are allowed, provided your eyes are clearly visible and the lenses do not reflect light. Tinted glasses are allowed only for blind people.
- No head covering, unless you wear one for religious reasons, in which case your face must still be fully visible.
- Sharp photo with good resolution, without filters or retouching that changes your facial features.
The current list of requirements is published on gov.pl. It is worth checking it yourself before visiting a photographer, as a rejected photo means another visit to the office and another expense.
ID card photo dimensions: is a passport photo the same?
Yes, a passport photo is the same as an ID card photo: the format is 35x45 mm and the same biometric rules apply. One set of prints from a studio, usually costing PLN 45 ‑ 52, can therefore be used for both documents if you submit the applications within a few months.
The difference is the fee for the document itself. An ID card is issued free of charge, while the fee for an adult passport is PLN 140. A passport for someone aged 12 to 18 costs PLN 70, while one for a child under 12 costs PLN 30.
How many photos are required for an ID card?
An ID card application requires one photo, or one photo file if the application is submitted online. For PLN 50, photography studios usually provide 4 or 6 prints, so the remaining copies can be used for a passport, student ID card or driving licence application. We cover the other costs of obtaining a driving licence in the article how much does a driving licence cost.
A child’s ID card photo costs the same at a photographer as an adult’s photo. Babies are often photographed lying on a light-coloured, plain blanket, while the same rules regarding the background and a visible face still apply.
ID card photo online: how can you take one yourself?
You can take an ID card photo yourself if it meets all official requirements. This is the least expensive option: it costs nothing for an online application or around PLN 14 to have it printed at a photo shop. Follow these steps:
- Stand several dozen centimetres in front of a smooth, light-coloured wall to avoid casting a shadow.
- Ask someone else to take the photo at eye level, using daylight coming from the front rather than the side.
- Do not use portrait mode or filters that blur the background or smooth your skin.
- Crop the photo to the 35x45 mm proportions so that your face fills most of the frame.
- Attach the file to an online application, or have it printed on photographic paper if applying at an office.
Online photo apps and services prepare files for printing, but their prices and quality vary, and you remain responsible for ensuring that the photo meets the requirements.
What affects the price of an ID card photo?
The price of an ID card photo depends primarily on where it is taken, the number of prints and the city. A photography studio is more expensive than a photo booth, a set of 6 photos costs more than a set of 4, and prices in large cities can be closer to the upper limit of PLN 70. Retouching and a digital version of the photo may cost extra, with the latter usually priced at around PLN 20.
We do not yet have photo prices for individual cities because local studios rarely publish their price lists. We are continuing to collect them, and you can compare the prices of other services in different cities in the article where services are cheapest.
How can you avoid overpaying for an ID card photo?
- Ask how many prints are included in the price. Four are enough for an ID card and passport, while six may be useful if you are planning to apply for more documents.
- Check whether corrections are free if the office rejects the photo.
- Ask for the file. Some studios include it in the price, while others charge around PLN 20 extra. With the file, you can order more prints for around PLN 14.
- Do not pay for retouching if you do not need it. The office may reject a photo that has been smoothed too heavily.
