We compare prices from pest control company price lists and articles, examine the available methods and explain how to prepare your flat to avoid paying for additional visits.
How much does bedbug treatment cost?
Bedbug treatment most often costs PLN 850 for one treatment in a flat, according to company price lists collected by indekscen.pl. Bedbugs usually require two treatments, so the total is roughly twice this amount, unless the company charges less for the second visit. Bedbug treatment is considerably more expensive than cockroach treatment because bedbugs hide in gaps in furniture, skirting boards and electrical sockets, while their eggs are resistant to many insecticides.

Insect treatment price per m²: how do companies calculate the cost?
Most companies charge a fixed price per treatment for a flat rather than per m²: the price of PLN 350 for cockroaches applies to a standard flat. Rates per m² are usually used for houses, commercial premises, warehouses and factories with large floor areas. For a larger than standard flat or several rooms affected by bedbugs, the company will usually increase the fixed price. When calling, state the floor area, number of rooms and where you have seen the insects.
What insect treatment methods are available and how do they differ?
Insect treatment methods vary in price, effectiveness against particular pests and whether you need to leave the flat. The most common are:
- Gel treatment. The cheapest option for cockroaches and German cockroaches, it does not require you to leave your home and takes effect after a few days.
- Spraying. Insecticide is applied to skirting boards, bed frames and gaps. After spraying, the rooms must remain vacant for a specified period.
- Fogging. The insecticide is dispersed as a mist that reaches difficult-to-access areas and is used for large infestations.
- Dry ice freezing. A chemical-free method used for bedbugs in mattresses and upholstered furniture, usually more expensive.
- Heat treatments. The room or affected items are heated to a temperature that bedbugs cannot survive.
For bedbugs, companies often combine methods, such as spraying and freezing the bed. Ask which method the company recommends and why.
How long must you stay out of your home after insect treatment?
After spray treatment, you usually need to stay out of the flat for 2 to 4 hours. The company will specify the exact period depending on the product used. On returning, the rooms must be thoroughly aired. You generally do not need to leave during gel treatment. Children, pregnant people and pets should stay away for longer, while aquariums and terrariums should be protected as instructed by the technician.
Can you sleep in the flat after insect treatment?
Yes, you can sleep in the flat on the same day once the exclusion period has ended and the rooms have been aired. For bedbugs, technicians may even recommend sleeping in your own bed because this draws the insects out of their hiding places and brings them into contact with the applied insecticide. Moving to a sofa in another room could spread bedbugs around the flat.
How long do bedbugs live after treatment?
Bedbugs may remain visible for several days or even a couple of weeks after treatment: the insecticide works gradually, while young bedbugs hatch from eggs that survived the first treatment. This is why a second treatment is usually carried out after about two weeks. If bedbugs are still biting after the second treatment and several more weeks, contact the company, as some offer an effectiveness guarantee.
How can you identify bedbugs and cockroaches?
Signs of bedbugs include itchy bites arranged in a line, usually on the arms, neck and legs, as well as tiny dark spots on the mattress and bed frame. They live close to where people sleep and emerge at night. Cockroaches and German cockroaches are more likely to be found in the kitchen and bathroom, near sources of water and food, often when the light is switched on. The distinction affects the price because bedbug treatment usually costs around PLN 850, while cockroach treatment costs PLN 335 ‑ 365. If you are unsure, take a photo of the insect and send it to the company before the visit.
How should you prepare your flat for insect treatment?
Preparing the flat properly makes treatment more effective and reduces the risk of having to pay for another visit. Companies usually ask you to:
- Remove and wash the bedding at a high temperature, along with clothes from wardrobes in affected rooms.
- Move furniture away from the walls and empty bedside drawers.
- Vacuum the flat and immediately dispose of the vacuum bag in a tightly sealed rubbish bag.
- Store food and dishes in sealed containers or the fridge.
- Protect pets and plants as instructed.

How can you prevent bedbugs from returning?
To prevent bedbugs from returning, you need to block the routes they use to enter your flat. After travelling, unpack your suitcase in the bathroom or on the balcony and immediately wash your clothes at a high temperature. Inspect second-hand upholstered furniture and mattresses before bringing them into your home. In a block of flats, seal gaps around pipes and electrical sockets. If bedbugs are present in neighbouring flats, inform the building manager because treating one flat will not be enough.
Bedbugs can survive for several months without a host, so simply leaving the flat for a week will not solve the problem. A zipped bedbug-proof mattress cover, which leaves them nowhere to hide, can help.
