Ozonation is a treatment available at car washes, air-conditioning workshops, cleaning companies and pest-control firms, with prices calculated differently by each type of provider. Car ozonation is one of several services that can help eliminate unpleasant smells inside a vehicle. Here are their prices according to workshop and cleaning-company price lists:

If the smell is only noticeable when the ventilation is switched on, air-conditioning disinfection is usually sufficient. If the car smells of cigarette smoke, dogs or spilt milk, ozone alone will only mask the problem briefly: first book car upholstery cleaning, followed by ozonation. Air-conditioning ozonation: price and when to have it done

Car air-conditioning ozonation usually costs the same as disinfection, namely PLN 110 ‑ 170, and workshops often combine it with an air-conditioning service costing around PLN 220. The best time is in spring, before the season, when the system is checked for leaks and the refrigerant is topped up anyway. You should also ask about replacing the cabin filter: an old filter will remain a source of smells after ozonation.

Disinfection methods vary in price and effectiveness. Ozone reaches the entire cabin but does not penetrate deeply into the evaporator as effectively. A chemical method, using foam or liquid applied to the evaporator, cleans the system itself more thoroughly. Ultrasonic equipment disperses a disinfectant as a mist. A good workshop will tell you which method it uses and will not charge for ‘full disinfection’ if it only ozonates the cabin.

How long does car ozonation take?

Car ozonation usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, or longer for strong smells such as cigarette smoke. Afterwards, the car must be ventilated, usually for between a dozen minutes and an hour, with the doors open. Including check-in at the workshop, the entire visit generally takes one to two hours. How much does flat ozonation cost compared with car ozonation?

Ozonating a flat of up to 50 m² most often costs PLN 325, typically PLN 275 ‑ 395, which is several times more than car ozonation. The cheapest offers, from PLN 150, are usually minimum charges for a visit to a small property, while the most expensive, up to PLN 600, apply to large flats and difficult smells, such as those left after a fire. Does ozonation kill bedbugs?

Ozonation is not an effective treatment for bedbugs: at concentrations that are safe for a building, ozone does not reach eggs hidden in cracks, skirting boards and mattresses. Bedbugs require professional pest control, which usually costs around PLN 850 per treatment for bedbugs and less, around PLN 350, for cockroaches. Ozonation can help remove the smell of chemicals after pest control, but cannot replace it.

What are the disadvantages of ozonation?

The main disadvantage of ozonation is that ozone is toxic: at the concentration used during treatment, it irritates the respiratory tract and eyes, so no people, animals or plants may remain in the room or car. Other disadvantages include:

1. Ozone removes a smell, but not its source. Dirty upholstery, mould or a damp wall will start to smell again.
2. Frequent and prolonged ozonation accelerates the deterioration of rubber and some plastics, including seals.
3. The effect on strong smells can be short-lived if the treatment was too brief or the generator was not powerful enough for the floor area.
4. A distinctive ozone smell lingers briefly after treatment, but disappears after ventilation.

Can you carry out ozonation yourself?

You can buy or hire an ozone generator and ozone your car yourself, but you must follow the instructions closely: nobody may remain inside, the car or room must be closed, and it must be thoroughly ventilated afterwards. DIY ozonation is suitable for a mild smell in a car. For a large flat, smells left after a fire or an air-conditioning system, it is better to hire a company that will select the right equipment output and session length.

When is car ozonation most worthwhile?

Car ozonation is most worthwhile after buying a used car, transporting animals, smoking inside the cabin, or when the ventilation smells musty. A good combination for a used car is upholstery cleaning, a new cabin filter, air-conditioning disinfection and finally ozonation. This package costs more than ozonation alone, but removes the previous owner’s smell for a long time, rather than for just a week. If the smell returns quickly, the cause may be damp carpeting or a leaking door seal, which no treatment can repair.

How can you avoid overpaying for ozonation?

• Ask what the price includes: cabin ozonation only, evaporator disinfection or a cabin filter.
• Combine services. Ozonation added to an air-conditioning service or upholstery cleaning costs less than a separate visit.
• Remove the source of the smell first, then use ozone. Otherwise, you will pay twice.
• For a flat, ask about the minimum charge and travel costs, as these increase the price of small jobs.
