In Poland, a split air conditioner with installation most commonly costs around PLN 3,800 (typically PLN 3,500 ‑ 5,650) for the unit and a basic installation. Annual servicing costs an additional PLN 325 or so.

The cost of air conditioning consists of three elements: the unit itself, installation and servicing in subsequent years. Installation companies usually quote a package price including installation, so this is also how we compare prices. How much does air conditioning with installation cost?

The median price of a split air conditioner with installation is PLN 3,800. Half of the offers fall within PLN 3,500 ‑ 5,650, while the cheapest offer in our data starts at PLN 2,800. This price includes indoor and outdoor units, installation, commissioning, a brief introduction to operation and pipework up to the standard length, usually around 3 metres.

This is the price for one room and a basic low-capacity unit, sufficient for a bedroom or a medium-sized living room. A living room with a kitchenette, a loft or a south-facing room will usually require a more powerful unit, with the price increasing in line with its capacity.

What affects the cost of air-conditioning installation?

The difference between the cheapest and most expensive offer rarely comes down to the unit alone. Installation conditions are more often responsible:

• Unit capacity. The larger and sunnier the room, the more powerful the air conditioner needs to be and the higher the price.
• Installation length. The package includes several metres of piping; each additional metre of copper pipe, insulation and cable is charged separately.
• Outdoor unit location. A high floor, no balcony or installation on the façade using a lift or scaffolding will significantly increase the cost.
• Condensate drainage. If the water cannot drain by gravity, a condensate pump is required and charged separately.
• Split or multi-split. One outdoor unit connected to several indoor units is a convenient solution for an entire flat, but each additional unit significantly increases the price.

When requesting a quote, provide the floor area of the rooms, the floor number, the distance between the planned locations of the indoor and outdoor units, and photos of the wall. This will help you receive a price that does not change on the day of installation.

How much does air conditioning cost in different cities?

We have local prices for 8 cities. The variation is substantial: in Kielce, a package including installation costs around PLN 3,300, compared with PLN 4,750 in Warsaw, PLN 5,300 in Kraków and as much as PLN 6,350 in Bielsko-Biała.

Interestingly, Wrocław (PLN 3,650) and Poznań (PLN 3,550) are cheaper than some smaller cities. City prices are based on a small number of price lists, so treat them as a guide rather than a ranking. City pages show the general level of service prices in each location, for example Kraków or Warsaw.

How much do servicing and disinfection of home air conditioning cost?

Manufacturers usually require an annual inspection to maintain the warranty. A split air-conditioning service most commonly costs PLN 325, with a typical range of PLN 300 ‑ 360. The scope depends on the company, but usually includes cleaning the filters and heat exchanger, checking the condensate drain and disinfecting the indoor unit. Service companies generally charge separately for leak testing and refrigerant top-ups, while servicing a multi-split system costs more than servicing a single-unit system.

Disinfection of a home air-conditioning system is usually part of a full service rather than a separate item, so we do not provide a separate price for it. Ask the technician which method is used to disinfect the unit, such as ozone treatment or a chemical agent, and whether this is included in the inspection price.

How much does air conditioning for an entire flat or house cost?

One split unit effectively cools one room, or possibly two rooms connected by an open passage. A 50 m² flat with a living room and bedroom will usually need two units, while a 100 m² house will need three or more. The simplest way to estimate the budget is to multiply the price of one system: based on the median, two separate split systems with installation cost around PLN 7,600 (typically PLN 7,000 ‑ 11,000), while three cost around PLN 11,000.

A multi-split system, with one outdoor unit on the façade and several indoor units in different rooms, is often cheaper than separate systems and takes up less space on the outside wall. This matters in a block of flats and when approval from the housing association is required. The disadvantage is that a failure of the outdoor unit disables cooling throughout the flat. Ask the installer to quote for both options and compare them side by side.

Can you install air conditioning yourself?

It is not worth it. Under F-gas regulations, an air conditioner containing refrigerant may only be installed by a certified person. Installing it yourself may result in a substantial administrative fine and invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty. The F-gas certification course alone costs around PLN 1,415, so it is not worthwhile for a single unit. Portable air conditioners are the exception, as they only need to be plugged into a socket, but they are noisier and less efficient.

Before signing the contract, ask the installer for the company’s certificate number. This is the same document the manufacturer will refer to in the event of a warranty claim.

How much does car air conditioning cost?

Car air conditioning is serviced rather than installed. For comparison with home air conditioning:

A basic inspection with a refrigerant top-up costs around PLN 220. The median cost of fully recharging the system with the older R134a refrigerant is PLN 200, compared with around PLN 600 for the newer R1234yf, used in most cars from recent years. The difference is mainly due to the price of the gas itself. Disinfection typically costs PLN 110 ‑ 170.

Breakdowns are the most expensive: replacing or repairing the compressor costs around PLN 1,050, several times the cost of annual servicing. Regular leak testing is the simplest way to prevent this. Air-conditioning recharge prices vary considerably between cities: it costs around PLN 100 in Bydgoszcz, PLN 225 in Warsaw and PLN 335 in Rybnik. How can you avoid overpaying for air conditioning?

• Arrange installation in autumn or winter. Installers have full schedules in spring and summer and are less willing to negotiate.
• Compare offers covering the same scope: unit capacity, installation length included in the price, condensate pump and installation of the outdoor unit.
• Ask about the price of the first inspection and whether it is a warranty requirement.
• For several rooms, calculate the cost of two options: separate split systems and one multi-split system.
• Have your car’s air conditioning inspected before the season, rather than during hot weather when garages are overwhelmed.
