A scratch on a door, a bumper scuffed while parking, rust on a wing: these are common reasons to visit a car painter. However, the price depends not on how small the scratch is, but on how much of the panel needs painting and the type of paint used on the car. We collected prices from public bodyshop price lists and articles to show how much it actually costs to paint one panel, several panels and a whole car.

How much does a car painter charge per panel in 2026?

According to 6 price lists and articles collected by indekscen.pl, painting one panel at a bodyshop most often costs PLN 600 in 2026. Half of the prices fall within PLN 545 ‑ 770, with the cheapest quotes starting at PLN 300 and the most expensive reaching PLN 1,500.

The price usually includes surface preparation, primer, base coat and clear coat applied in a spray booth, as well as final polishing. It does not include panel straightening, filling deep damage or sandblasting. If the panel is dented, the bill will increase to cover the bodywork. Sources and quotations from price lists are available at respraying one body panel.

Car panel painting price list: bumper, door, bonnet and roof

The cost of painting different panels varies mainly because of their surface area: a small part costs around PLN 125, a typical bumper, door or wing costs close to the median of PLN 600, while a roof costs around PLN 1,450.

Respraying one body panel: optionMedianTypicallySources
Basic servicePLN 600PLN 545 ‑ 7706
a very small part (e.g. a tow hook cover)PLN 125PLN 1251

Here is what this looks like in practice:

Panel Typical price Notes
Small part (tow hook cover, mirror) around PLN 125 small surface area, but the full process is required
Bumper, door, wing PLN 545 ‑ 770 most common job
Bonnet upper half of the range, up to PLN 1,500 large, flat surface
Roof around PLN 1,450 largest panel, difficult access
3 panels PLN 1,600 ‑ 2,300 ask for a discount
Whole car PLN 8,600 ‑ 9,500 bodywork, excluding panel repairs

The bonnet and roof cost more than a door because they have large, flat surfaces where any difference in shade or paint run is visible when viewed against the light.

How much does it cost to paint 3 panels?

Painting three car panels typically costs PLN 1,600 ‑ 2,300, calculated as three times the price range for one panel. In practice, many bodyshops offer a discount for several panels because the spray booth only needs to be prepared, the paint mixed and the panels dried once.

Be careful with metallic and pearlescent paints. With these finishes, the painter often blends the paint into adjacent panels, applying a gradual transition onto the neighbouring door or wing so that no boundary between shades is visible. This means that for “one panel”, you may partly be paying for two. Ask about this before commissioning the work.

What affects the price of painting a panel?

The price of painting a panel depends on four factors: the size of the panel, the type of paint, the condition of the surface and the location of the bodyshop. The first two are immediately reflected in the quote, while the other two often only become apparent once the old coating has been removed.

  • Type of paint. Solid paint (acrylic) is the simplest. Metallic and pearlescent finishes require a base coat, clear coat and blending, so the price is higher.
  • Condition of the surface. Rust under the paint, old filler or chips reaching the bare metal require additional sanding and primer.
  • Plastic or metal. A plastic bumper requires a special plastic primer, while a cracked bumper must first be plastic-welded.
  • City and bodyshop. Authorised service centres usually charge more than independent bodyshops.

Is it worth painting the whole car instead of several panels?

Painting a whole car most often costs PLN 9,000 (typically PLN 8,600 ‑ 9,500), which is equivalent to the cost of more than a dozen individual panels. Painting the whole car makes sense when changing its colour or when the paintwork is dull and scratched across most of the body. If only two or three panels are damaged, spot painting is cheaper.

A full respray is cheaper for A- and B-segment cars than for large SUVs, while changing the colour also requires painting the recesses, sills and door edges, which increases the price. Details are available at full car respray.

How much does a car painter charge to repair a scratch?

A car painter will usually charge as much to repair a scratch as to paint the whole panel, namely PLN 545 ‑ 770, if the scratch has penetrated to the primer or bare metal. Paint cannot be applied only “along the line” because the new coating must extend to the edge of the panel or be blended in, otherwise the boundary will remain visible.

Shallow scratches that do not penetrate the clear coat can be removed by polishing. Here is a simple test: run your fingernail across the scratch. If your nail does not catch, the scratch can usually be polished out. If it catches and a different colour is visible underneath, painting is required.

Does polishing remove scratches and how much does it cost?

Polishing removes shallow scratches in the clear-coat layer: single-stage polishing of a whole car usually costs PLN 500 ‑ 800, two-stage polishing around PLN 1,150, and multi-stage paint correction around PLN 2,250. The more stages there are, the more defects are removed, but the work also takes longer.

Polishing is a good choice before selling a car or when the paintwork has become dull from automatic car washes. It will not help with chips reaching the bare metal, rust or deep scratches. Find out more at paintwork polishing.

How long does it take to paint a car panel?

Painting one panel usually takes from one to three working days. Applying the paint itself takes a few hours, but surface preparation, primer drying and curing the paint in the booth extend the process. If filling and bodywork repairs are required, the car will remain at the bodyshop for longer.

The stages you pay for are:

  1. Inspection and colour matching using the paint code on the vehicle identification plate, often with adjustments based on a test panel.
  2. Surface preparation: keying, filling where necessary and sanding.
  3. Primer and sanding.
  4. Base coat and clear coat in a spray booth, including blending for metallic paint.
  5. Drying and final polishing, which matches the texture to the rest of the car.

How can you avoid overpaying at a bodyshop?

  • Ask for a written quote with a breakdown covering bodywork, painting and blending into adjacent panels.
  • Ask about the warranty on the colour match and durability of the coating. Reputable bodyshops provide one for several years.
  • Check whether they use a spray booth. Painting in an ordinary garage leaves dust in the paintwork.
  • Consider polishing before painting. A shallow scratch does not always require painting.
  • For a claim against the at-fault driver’s third-party liability insurance, work arranged through the insurer may be covered in full. Ask the insurer about the settlement terms.

Painting is one of the more expensive aspects of car maintenance alongside mechanical repairs. For comparison, we discuss the cost of other repairs in our articles on replacing brake pads and discs and replacing the clutch and dual-mass flywheel.

Why do car painters’ price lists vary?

Car painters’ price lists can vary severalfold because some give a starting price for a small panel without surface repairs, while others give a realistic price including surface preparation and blending. We compare several sources at once and show the median and range, together with the date and a verbatim quotation. We do not yet have painting prices for individual cities, although the sources indicate that rates are higher in large urban areas.

Does wrapping a car damage the paintwork?

Dobrze położona i zdjęta folia nie niszczy fabrycznego lakieru. Ryzyko dotyczy lakieru już poprawianego, który przy zdejmowaniu folii może odejść razem z nią.

How long does it take to polish a whole car?

Jednoetapowe polerowanie zajmuje zwykle jeden dzień, a wieloetapowa korekta lakieru od dwóch do trzech dni. Cena jednoetapowego polerowania to mediana PLN 575, wieloetapowego około PLN 2,250.

Does paint polishing damage the paintwork?

Każde polerowanie zbiera cienką warstwę lakieru bezbarwnego, dlatego wieloetapowej korekty nie robi się co roku. Grubość lakieru przed polerowaniem warto zmierzyć miernikiem.
