  • Bumper repair or replacement at a garage usually costs PLN 415 ‑ 740, while the median from price lists is PLN 475.
  • Painting the bumper alone, without structural repairs, costs around PLN 650.
  • Spot removal of minor bumper scratches, without filling, costs around PLN 200.

The bumper is the part most likely to take a hit: while parking, in a minor collision in traffic or from a bollard outside a supermarket. However, the repair bill can vary severalfold, because the job may involve anything from touching up a scratch to fitting a new metallic-painted bumper with parking sensors. We break down the costs using price lists from garages and paint shops, as well as motoring articles.

How much does it cost to replace a front bumper?

Front bumper replacement or repair at a garage most commonly costs PLN 475, according to 3 price lists collected by indekscen.pl, with half of the quotes falling within PLN 415 ‑ 740. The cheapest quotes start at PLN 200, while the most expensive reach PLN 1,500. This price covers removal and fitting, plastic welding or straightening, filling and painting. It does not include a new replacement part if the old bumper cannot be repaired.

Details and all sources are available at bumper replacement. A front bumper is usually more expensive than a rear bumper for three reasons: it has more equipment (fog lights, headlight washers, grilles, parking sensors and sometimes adaptive cruise control radar), it is larger and it often has more contours that are difficult for a paint technician to restore.

Bumper repair or replacement: which is cheaper?

Repairing a bumper is cheaper than replacing it with a new one if the plastic is cracked, scratched or slightly dented and the mounting brackets are intact. The price lists used to calculate the median of PLN 475 mainly cover repairs of this kind. Replacement makes sense when the bumper is torn, has missing sections or all its mounting brackets are broken.

These are the typical scopes of work according to garage and paint shop price lists:

Scope of bumper work Typical price What it includes
Spot removal of minor scratches around PLN 200 without filling
Bumper repair at a garage PLN 415 ‑ 740 plastic welding, filling, painting
Painting the bumper alone around PLN 650 without structural repairs
Repair and painting at a paint shop PLN 595 ‑ 865 depending on the colour and garage
Post-accident repair with straightening around PLN 5,000 serious collision damage

With a new bumper, you pay separately for the part, painting (new bumpers usually come primed but unpainted) and fitting. Painting one body panel most commonly costs PLN 600, so the part and paintwork alone can exceed the cost of properly repairing the old bumper.

How much does it cost to replace a rear bumper?

Rear bumper replacement or repair usually costs the same as for a front bumper, namely PLN 415 ‑ 740, because the extent of the damage and the paintwork determine the price, not which end of the car it is on. A rear bumper has less equipment, so removal may be quicker. Parking sensors in the bumper increase the cost: each sensor must be transferred and checked after painting to ensure that it works.

Another potential issue is the reinforcement bar beneath the bumper. If the impact was severe, the bar may be bent and also need replacing. It is worth asking the garage to inspect the bar before providing a quote so that you do not have to pay extra later.

How much does a paint shop charge to paint a bumper?

Painting the bumper alone costs around PLN 650, while the median cost of painting any single body panel is PLN 600, according to 6 price lists. The price is higher for metallic and pearlescent paints because the paint technician must blend the colour into adjacent panels (the wings and bonnet) so that no difference in shade is visible.

The cost of painting a bumper depends on:

  1. Type of paint. Solid acrylic is the cheapest, metallic is more expensive, while pearlescent and three-stage colours cost the most.
  2. Condition of the surface. Deep scratches and cracks must be filled and primed before painting.
  3. New or old bumper. A new primed bumper only needs keying, while an old one often requires full preparation.
  4. Blending. With difficult colours, the paint technician also paints part of the adjacent panel.
  5. Garage and city. Paint shop rates vary between regions.

Bumper replacement at an authorised service centre or an independent garage?

Bumper replacement at an authorised service centre is usually considerably more expensive than at an independent garage, mainly because of the labour rate: an hour of labour at an authorised service centre costs around PLN 465, compared with a median of PLN 175 at an independent garage. Authorised service centres also usually fit original parts, which cost more than aftermarket replacements.

An authorised service centre makes sense for a car under warranty, a bumper fitted with driver-assistance radar (which must be calibrated after replacement), or when the repair is covered by an insurer that selects the garage. We discuss the differences in rates in more detail in the article mechanic’s hourly labour rate: independent garage or authorised service centre.

How long does bumper replacement take?

Removing and fitting a bumper usually takes between half an hour and two hours, depending on the model and the number of sensors. Replacement with painting most commonly takes between one and three working days because the paint and primer must dry between coats, and a new part often has to be ordered.

For a post-accident repair where the reinforcement bar, lights or wing are also damaged, the car may remain at the garage for a week or longer. It is worth asking about the collection date and a replacement car straight away if the claim is being made under the at-fault driver’s third-party liability insurance.

How much compensation can you get for a cracked bumper under third-party liability insurance?

The amount of compensation for a cracked bumper under the at-fault driver’s third-party liability insurance depends on the insurer’s estimate, not garage price lists, so we do not give a single figure here. Compare the amount in the estimate with the median bumper repair cost (PLN 475) and the price of painting one body panel (PLN 600). If the valuation is significantly lower, you can appeal or commission an independent assessment.

A vehicle assessor’s report usually costs PLN 240 ‑ 365. Details are available in the article vehicle assessor: price list. In disputes with an insurer, it is also worth consulting a lawyer or Poland’s Financial Ombudsman.

How can you avoid overpaying for bumper repair?

  • Ask for an itemised quote covering labour, the part, painting and small components (mounting brackets, clips and grilles).
  • Ask whether the bumper can be repaired. Plastic welding and painting may be cheaper than a new painted part.
  • Consider an aftermarket part. A primed aftermarket bumper usually costs less than an original one, but ask whether the panel gaps will line up properly.
  • Do not paint a scratch that can be polished out. The median cost of a single-stage polish for an entire car is PLN 575, while a shallow scratch in the clear coat can often be removed by localised polishing.
  • Combine repairs. If you also have a dent around the wheel arch, bodywork repairs usually cost PLN 395 ‑ 750, and the paint technician can complete both panels in one cycle.

Can you replace a bumper yourself?

You can replace the bumper yourself on many cars if the new one is already painted in the correct colour: simply undo the wheel-arch liners, the bolts under the bonnet and underneath the car, release the mounting brackets and transfer the equipment. Parking sensors and radar make the job more difficult because an incorrect connection will trigger errors, while the radar must be calibrated at a service centre. The saving is usually only one or two hours of labour, so if you lack experience, the cost of broken mounting brackets can easily wipe it out.
