Car wrapping or respraying? 2026 price and durability comparison
indekscen.pl editorial team · published 30 September 2026 · prices according to the 5 October 2026 index
A full car wrap in coloured vinyl most often costs PLN 6,000 (typically PLN 4,750 ‑ 9,999), while respraying an entire car costs around PLN 9,000 (typically PLN 8,600 ‑ 9,500). Changing the colour with vinyl is therefore usually cheaper than respraying. The most expensive option is transparent PPF paint protection film for the entire bodywork, with a median price of PLN 13,300.

There are now two ways to change a car’s colour or refresh its appearance: vinyl wrapping or paint. They differ in price, durability and what happens when the car is sold. Below, we compare both options using price lists from wrapping studios and bodyshops. We also examine transparent PPF paint protection film and ceramic coating, which protect the paint without changing its colour.
Which is cheaper: wrapping or respraying a car?
Wrapping a car in coloured vinyl is usually cheaper than respraying the entire vehicle. According to 29 price lists collected by indekscen.pl, a full car wrapping most often costs PLN 6,000, while full car respray costs around PLN 9,000. The difference comes down to the work involved: respraying requires the entire bodywork to be sanded and primed, trim, seals and lights to be removed, and then several coats to be applied in a spray booth. With a wrap, the car retains its original paint and the vinyl covers it like a second skin.
Respraying is the better option in two cases. First, when the paint is damaged, rusty, chipped or peeling. Vinyl will not hide these defects and may pull off loose paint when removed. Second, when you want a permanent colour change and the car is old, so preserving its original finish is not important.

How much does it cost to wrap an entire car in a different colour?
Wrapping an entire car in a different colour typically costs PLN 4,750 ‑ 9,999, with quotes ranging from PLN 1,000 to PLN 13,500. The lowest prices usually apply to small cars and simpler vinyl, or DIY wrapping costs, while the highest come from reputable studios and larger vehicles. Matt, satin and matt black vinyl usually fall within the same price range as gloss vinyl. Special-effect vinyl, such as chrome, colour-shifting or brushed-metal finishes, costs more because the material itself is more expensive and harder to apply.
Factors affecting the price of wrapping a car:
- Vehicle size. A B-segment hatchback requires less vinyl and fewer labour hours than an SUV or estate car.
- Body shape. Deep creases, spoilers and sharply contoured bumpers require the vinyl to be cut and joined.
- Scope. Wrapping the entire bodywork, just the roof, the bonnet or the mirrors involves completely different costs.
- Door shuts and sills. Wrapping these areas so that the old colour is not visible when the doors are opened increases the price.
- Type of vinyl. Cast vinyl from reputable manufacturers costs more than calendared vinyl but adheres better to curved surfaces.
How much does it cost to wrap a car in PPF?
According to price lists, wrapping the entire bodywork in transparent PPF costs around PLN 13,300 (typically PLN 11,900 ‑ 14,900), which is more than changing the colour with vinyl and more than respraying. PPF does not change the colour. It is thicker than coloured vinyl, protects the paint from stone chips, scratches and bird droppings, and minor scratches in the film itself disappear when exposed to heat.
For this reason, PPF is most often applied only to the front of the car, which is most exposed to stone chips. A front-end package, meaning full car PPF wrap covering the bumper, bonnet, wings and mirrors, costs around PLN 3,500. According to the sources, fully wrapping a van in protective film costs around PLN 8,000.
| Scope of work | Price according to price lists | Benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Coloured vinyl, entire car | PLN 4,750 ‑ 9,999 | new colour, protection for the paint underneath |
| PPF, front of car | around PLN 3,500 | protection against stone chips at the front |
| PPF, entire bodywork | PLN 11,900 ‑ 14,900 | full protection, no colour change |
| Respraying the entire car | PLN 8,600 ‑ 9,500 | permanent new colour |
| Respraying one panel | PLN 545 ‑ 770 | repair of a bumper, door or wing |
| 2-3-year ceramic coating | PLN 1,750 ‑ 2,250 | shine, easier cleaning |
How long does a car wrap last?
Good-quality coloured vinyl typically lasts between 5 and 7 years, while PPF lasts between 7 and 10 years if the car is washed correctly. Sunlight has the greatest effect on durability: horizontal surfaces, the roof and bonnet, fade faster than the doors. Cheap vinyl may begin to crack and peel at the edges after just 2-3 years. Factory paint or a good respray lasts longer than vinyl, but cannot be removed without leaving a trace.
An important advantage of vinyl is that removing it restores the original colour, often in better condition than on unwrapped panels. This matters when selling a car, as buyers and assessors may be suspicious of a resprayed vehicle. Changing the paint colour also requires the registration certificate to be updated. The rules are less clear for vinyl wraps, so before changing the colour, ask the local vehicle registration office whether you need to report the change.
How long does it take to wrap an entire car?
Wrapping an entire car in coloured vinyl usually takes between 1 and 3 days, depending on the size and complexity of the vehicle. A full PPF wrap takes longer, potentially up to a week, because the film is thicker and must be fitted to each panel separately. Respraying an entire car usually takes from several days to two weeks because each coat must dry and the car must be dismantled and reassembled.

Car-wrapping prices in cities for which we have local price lists are noticeably higher than the national median. The median is PLN 6,400 in Kraków, PLN 5,950 in Gdańsk and PLN 11,000 in Warsaw. How should you wash a vinyl-wrapped car?
A vinyl-wrapped car is best washed by hand using the two-bucket method and a mild shampoo. An exterior manual car wash costs around PLN 83 according to price lists. Avoid automatic brush car washes, which scratch matt and satin vinyl, and do not aim a pressure washer directly at the film’s edges from close range, as this may lift them. Matt vinyl should not be polished or treated with ordinary wax, as this will create glossy patches. A ceramic coating designed for vinyl can also be applied: ceramic coating for the entire car typically costs PLN 1,750 ‑ 2,250.
What are the disadvantages of wrapping a car in vinyl?
The main disadvantages of wrapping a car in vinyl are its shorter lifespan compared with paint, the risk of damaging weak paint during removal and visible joins on complex panels. Vinyl will not hide dents or rust either. If the paint is chipped, a bodyshop must repair it first, and respraying one body panel typically costs PLN 545 ‑ 770 per panel, or around PLN 1,450 for a roof.
How to avoid overpaying for a car wrap:
- Ask whether the price includes the door shuts, sills and inside of the tailgate. This is the most common difference between quotes.
- Ask for the vinyl manufacturer’s name and product range. Compare quotes using the same grade of vinyl.
- Check the warranties for the vinyl and workmanship separately, as well as the conditions that invalidate them, such as using an automatic brush car wash.
- Inspect the car in good light before accepting it: bubbles, lifted edges and cuts in the paint are grounds for a complaint.
- Assess the paint before wrapping the car. Sometimes polishing for around PLN 575 and applying a ceramic coating provide a sufficient improvement without changing the colour.
