Window tinting is one of the more affordable ways to alter a car’s appearance, but quotes vary more than claims of ‘from a few hundred PLN’ might suggest. Sometimes the price covers only the rear windscreen, sometimes all windows behind the B-pillar, and sometimes the front side windows as well. We compare prices from detailing studio and workshop price lists, break them down into packages and explain which windows may legally be tinted.
How much does car window tinting cost?
Tinting the windows of a passenger car most commonly costs PLN 600, according to 6 price lists and articles collected by indekscen.pl, while typical quotes fall within the PLN 565 ‑ 620 range. The price covers a standard package: film applied to the inside of the rear side windows and rear windscreen, including cleaning and preparing the glass.
The cheapest offers, from PLN 350, usually apply to small cars with three windows to cover or promotions at local workshops. The upper limit, up to PLN 800, applies to estate cars, SUVs and cars with many small windows, such as triangular panes in the doors and pillars. Details and quotations from the sources are available at window tinting.

| Front side window tinting | PLN 275 | PLN 265 ‑ 290 | 2 |

Window tinting price list: what determines the price?
The price of window tinting depends primarily on the number and shape of the windows, and only then on the type of film. The installer charges based on the time required: each curved window requires the film to be heat-shaped, while every small pane must be cut separately. The price is affected by:
- Body style. A hatchback with three windows is the cheapest, saloons and coupés fall in the middle, while estate cars, SUVs and vans are the most expensive.
- Type of film. Standard dyed film is the cheapest. Metallised and ceramic films reflect heat and UV radiation more effectively but cost more.
- Method. Film applied to the inside or the furnace method, in which the glass is permanently tinted.
- Scope. Rear windows only or front side windows as well, which are subject to stricter regulations.
- Workshop and city. Detailing studios in large cities usually charge more than small workshops.
When comparing quotes, always ask how many windows the price covers. A ‘from’ price often applies to the smallest car and the cheapest film.
Film or the furnace method: which should you choose?
Tinting windows using the furnace method costs approximately PLN 1,650, considerably more than applied film at PLN 600. With the furnace method, the windows are removed and tinted at high temperature, making the colour part of the glass: it does not peel off, bubble or become scratched when the window is lowered.
| Scope and method | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Film, rear side windows and rear windscreen | PLN 565 ‑ 620 | standard package |
| Film, front side windows | approximately PLN 275 | highly light-transmissive film only |
| Furnace method | approximately PLN 1,650 | permanent glass tinting |
| Rear windscreen replacement (for comparison) | approximately PLN 325 | the film must be reapplied after replacement |
Film has two advantages: it is cheaper and can be removed, for example before selling the car or following a change in regulations. Good film lasts for many years, while cheaper products may fade and turn purple after a few seasons. The furnace method makes sense if you plan to keep the car for a long time and do not want to revisit the issue.
How dark can you legally tint car windows?
The regulations restrict tinting only on the windscreen and front side windows: the windscreen must transmit at least 75 per cent of light, while the front side windows must transmit at least 70 per cent. The rear side windows and rear windscreen may be tinted as dark as desired, provided that the car has two exterior mirrors.
In practice, this means that only very light, often almost invisible film is suitable for the front side windows, mainly filtering heat and UV radiation. Factory-fitted glass also transmits less than 100 per cent of light, so even light film may cause the window to exceed the legal limit. A reputable workshop will measure light transmission with a meter after applying the film and show you the result.
What is the penalty for tinted windows?
If the front windows are tinted too dark, you may receive a fine, and during a vehicle inspection the examiner may refuse to approve the car until the film has been removed. Police check light transmission with a portable meter during roadside inspections. Check the current penalty tariff for the fine and any penalty points, as the regulations may change.
The simplest way to avoid problems is to follow one rule: use dark film only behind the B-pillar. We explain what else the examiner checks in the article how much does a vehicle inspection cost.
Is it worth tinting car windows?
Car window tinting is particularly worthwhile for families with children and people who often park in the sun: the cabin heats up less, while UV-filtering film protects the upholstery from fading. Other benefits include making items on the rear seat less visible and reducing the risk of glass scattering in an accident, as the film holds the fragments together.
There are drawbacks too: poorer visibility when reversing after dark, the risk of bubbles with cheap films and the need to reapply the film after replacing a window. If the car already has factory-tinted rear windows, known as privacy glass, additional film makes little difference.
How long does window tinting take?
Applying window film usually takes between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on the number of windows and the body style. The furnace method takes longer because the windows must be removed, tinted and reinstalled, so the car will usually remain at the workshop for a full day or longer.
You need to take care for a few days after collecting the car: do not lower the windows or clean them from the inside until the adhesive has dried. Slight cloudiness or small droplets of water beneath the film are normal during the first few days and will disappear on their own.
Window tinting, car wrapping and ceramic coating
Window tinting is the least expensive way to alter a car’s appearance. By comparison, car wrapping with a full wrap usually costs PLN 4,750 ‑ 9,999, while the median price of ceramic coating for the paintwork is PLN 2,000. Detailing studios often offer a discount when services are combined, so it is worth asking about a package.
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Window tinting | PLN 600 | PLN 565 ‑ 620 | 6 |
| Car wrapping | PLN 6,000 | PLN 4,750 ‑ 9,999 | 29 |
| Ceramic coating | PLN 2,000 | PLN 1,750 ‑ 2,250 | 7 |

How can you avoid overpaying for window tinting?
- Ask how many windows the price covers. A ‘package’ may include three windows at one workshop and five at another.
- Ask about the brand and type of film. Film with a multi-year manufacturer’s warranty costs more but does not fade.
- Check the installation warranty. The workshop should fix bubbles and peeling edges free of charge.
- Do not apply dark film to the front windows. Removing it after a roadside inspection costs more than applying it.
- Ask for a light transmission test after film has been applied to the front side windows.
