Ceramic coating: is it worth it? 2026 cost, polishing, PPF, wax

indekscen.pl editorial team · published 30 September 2026 · prices according to the 5 October 2026 index

A 2-3 year ceramic coating for the whole car most often costs PLN 2,000 (typically PLN 1,750 ‑ 2,250), according to 7 detailing studio price lists collected by indekscen.pl. At a glance (as at 5 October 2026)

  • A 2-3 year ceramic coating for the whole car usually costs PLN 1,750 ‑ 2,250 at a detailing studio, with a median of PLN 2,000.
  • A one-year ceramic coating costs around PLN 800, while a five-year or graphene coating costs around PLN 2,500.
  • Single-stage paint polishing before applying a ceramic coating usually costs PLN 500 ‑ 800, while two-stage polishing costs around PLN 1,150.
  • The median cost of fully wrapping a car in protective PPF is PLN 13,300, several times more than a ceramic coating.
  • Protecting a set of alloy wheels with a ceramic coating costs around PLN 500.

A ceramic coating is a thin, hard layer applied to paintwork to protect it from sunlight, salt and chemicals, while also making it easier to clean. However, detailing studio price lists vary several-fold because the same term covers one-year and five-year coatings, small hatchbacks and large SUVs, and services with or without polishing. We have compiled medians from public price lists and compared ceramic coatings with the alternatives to help you decide whether they are worth the expense.

Is a ceramic coating worth it?

A ceramic coating is worth its price, around PLN 2,000, when the car is new or its paint has recently been restored and you intend to drive it for at least another two or three years. The coating then preserves the paint’s good condition, while every wash is quicker because dirt does not stick as firmly. It makes less sense on an older car with scratched paint if you do not want to pay for polishing, as the ceramic coating will also seal in the scratches.

Advantages of a ceramic coating:

  1. Hydrophobic effect. Water forms beads and runs off, taking some of the dirt with it.
  2. Protection from chemicals and UV radiation. The paint becomes dull more slowly, while bird droppings, resin and insects are easier to remove.
  3. Deeper gloss throughout the coating’s lifespan, without applying wax every few weeks.
  4. Easier washing in winter, when the paint is exposed to road salt.

Disadvantages of a ceramic coating:

  1. It does not protect against stone chips or deep scratches.
  2. The paintwork must be prepared. The bill may be lower without polishing, but the result will be less impressive.
  3. It requires care: wash it gently, preferably by hand, and attend coating inspections if required by the studio’s warranty.

How much does a ceramic coating for a car cost?

A 2-3 year ceramic coating for the whole car usually costs PLN 1,750 ‑ 2,250, while the median from 7 price lists is PLN 2,000. The price depends on three factors: the coating’s stated durability, the size of the body (a hatchback is cheaper than an estate or SUV), and whether paint correction is included. Some studios quote net prices, so add VAT before comparing offers.

Here is how the coatings compare by stated durability:

Type of coating Typical price Best for
One-year (12 months) around PLN 800 a car being prepared for sale, testing the effect
2-3 year PLN 1,750 ‑ 2,250 most drivers
Five-year and graphene around PLN 2,500 a new car to keep for years
Alloy wheels only around PLN 500 easier wheel cleaning

How long does a ceramic coating last?

A ceramic coating lasts as long as stated by the product’s manufacturer, from one to five years, provided that it is properly maintained. In practice, brush car washes, strong alkaline chemicals and missed inspections, if required by the studio, reduce its lifespan. The coating does not disappear suddenly: its hydrophobic effect gradually weakens and water stops forming beads. A maintenance layer can then be applied, or a new coating after light polishing.

When choosing a coating, do not focus solely on the number of years in its name. Ask the studio what you need to do to keep the warranty valid and how much the annual inspections cost.

Does the paint need polishing before a ceramic coating is applied?

Before applying a ceramic coating, the paint must at least be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. Most cars also need polishing because the coating seals in whatever is underneath. Single-stage paintwork polishing usually costs PLN 500 ‑ 800 and removes some minor scratches. Two-stage polishing costs around PLN 1,150, while a full, multi-stage paint correction costs around PLN 2,250.

This matters when comparing quotes: a low ceramic coating price often covers the application alone, without paint correction. If one studio quotes PLN 950 and another PLN 2,500, check whether the higher price includes polishing.

How long does applying a ceramic coating take?

Applying a ceramic coating at a studio usually takes between one and three days, depending on how much work the paint requires. Preparation takes the longest: washing, removing tar and metal deposits, clay-bar treatment, polishing and degreasing. The application itself takes a few hours, after which the coating must cure in a warm room. The car should not be washed for the first few days after collection, and strong chemicals should be avoided for several weeks so that the coating can fully bond with the paint.

Example: the owner of a three-year-old compact car with minor scratches from car washes pays around PLN 1,150 for two-stage polishing and usually PLN 1,750 ‑ 2,250 for a 2-3 year coating. Both items should be listed separately in the quote so that it can be compared with offers from other studios.

Ceramic coating or PPF?

A ceramic coating and PPF protect paintwork against different things, and film is several times more expensive. Full-car full car PPF wrap has a median cost of PLN 13,300 (typically PLN 11,900 ‑ 14,900), while a front-end package covering the bonnet, bumper and wings costs around PLN 3,500. The film absorbs impacts from stones and protects against scratches, which a ceramic coating cannot do.

A popular combination is PPF on the front of the car and a ceramic coating on the rest of the bodywork, and sometimes on the film as well. Anyone considering a colour change can find a comparison in the article car wrapping or painting.

Ceramic coating or wax?

Wax provides a similar gloss and hydrophobic effect, but lasts from a few weeks to a few months, compared with one to several years for a ceramic coating. Wax is often applied during washing: manual car wash usually costs PLN 60 ‑ 120, with wax packages at the upper end of this range. After several washes with wax each year, the total expense eventually approaches the price of a one-year coating, around PLN 800.

A spray-on ceramic coating that you can apply yourself after washing is a middle-ground option: it lasts longer than wax but cannot replace a coating applied by a studio to properly prepared paintwork.

What else can be protected with a ceramic coating?

Ceramic coatings can also be applied to alloy wheels, windows, headlights and the interior, including leather and plastics. Ceramic-coated alloy wheels cost around PLN 500 and are easier to clean of brake dust. Dull headlights must be polished before protection: car headlight polishing (cleaning) has a median cost of PLN 250, while a coating on the lens slows down renewed yellowing.

When refreshing the interior, it is worth combining the visit with seat cleaning. We cover the cost in our article on car upholstery cleaning.

How can you avoid overpaying for a ceramic coating?

  • Ask for the gross price and the size of car to which the price-list figure applies.
  • Check what the package includes: washing, decontamination, polishing, the number of coating layers, alloy wheels and windows.
  • Ask for the product name and warranty terms, including the cost of inspections.
  • Inspect the car before and after under a lamp or in sunlight, not just in online photos.
  • Do not apply a ceramic coating to fresh paint after bodywork repairs without consulting the painter. We cover the cost of painting a single panel in the article painting a car panel.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a ceramic coating for the whole car cost?

Powłoka ceramiczna 2-3 letnia na całe auto kosztuje zwykle PLN 1,750 ‑ 2,250. Najtańsze oferty zaczynają się od PLN 950 (mały hatchback, sama aplikacja), najdroższe dochodzą do PLN 2,500.

Does a ceramic coating protect against scratches?

Can a ceramic coating be removed?

Powłokę ceramiczną usuwa się polerowaniem maszynowym, bo nie schodzi przy myciu. Jednoetapowe polerowanie całego auta kosztuje zwykle PLN 500 ‑ 800.

How much does a ceramic coating for alloy wheels cost?

Zabezpieczenie kompletu felg powłoką ceramiczną kosztuje około PLN 500. Najlepiej zrobić to przy sezonowej zmianie kół, gdy felgi i tak są zdjęte i można je dokładnie umyć od środka.

Can you apply a spray-on ceramic coating yourself?
