The cheapest salons, usually in smaller localities, start at PLN 100, while the most expensive charge up to PLN 250. This is the price of a basic gel manicure without extensions or elaborate nail art.

Three factors have the greatest impact on the price: the city, nail length and type of service. Short nails on the natural nail plate are the cheapest in price lists, longer nails cost more, and extensions using forms are the most expensive. Salons usually charge separately for nail art, French tips and special effects, either per nail or for the whole hand.

Gel is usually slightly more expensive than a hybrid manicure: the median price of gel nails is PLN 150, while gel polish manicure without nail art costs PLN 120. The difference is due to the nail technician’s work: gel is applied in layers and shaped, then filed into the desired form, so the appointment takes longer. A hybrid manicure is essentially long-lasting polish cured under a lamp.

How long do gel nails last?

Gel nails usually last from 2 to 4 weeks, longer than a hybrid manicure, which lasts from 2 to 3 weeks. After this time, the nail grows out and a strip of the natural nail plate becomes visible near the cuticle. An infill is then carried out: the nail technician files away some of the old gel and applies new material over the regrowth.

Several factors affect durability:

1. Preparing the nail plate. A nail plate that has not been properly degreased or buffed is the most common cause of chipping during the first week.
2. Length and shape. Long nails are easier to damage, and extensions are more likely to crack at the edge.
3. Daily activities. Washing dishes without gloves, cleaning products and manual work shorten the life of any manicure.
4. Nail growth rate. For some people, regrowth is visible after just two weeks.

With an appointment every 4 weeks, gel nails cost around PLN 1,800 per year (typically PLN 1,800 ‑ 1,900), calculated using the median price of a basic application. A hybrid manicure is better for people with healthy, fairly strong nails who simply want long-lasting colour without changing their length. Gel works well when nails are thin, splitting or brittle because the hard layer strengthens them. Gel is also the only practical option if you want nails longer than their natural length.

These questions can help you choose:

• Do you want extensions? Yes: gel. No: either method is suitable.
• How often can you visit the salon? Less often: gel, which lasts longer.
• How do you feel about filing? Removing gel requires more filing than removing a hybrid manicure.

How can you avoid overpaying for your nails?

• Ask what is included in the price. Removing the previous manicure, especially if it was done at another salon, may be charged separately.
• Check the price of nail art. French tips, ombre or additional designs on every nail can increase the bill by more than the difference between gel and a hybrid manicure.
• Do not peel the manicure off yourself. A damaged nail plate will then require a longer recovery period and additional appointments.
