At a glance (as at 5 October 2026)
- Professional adjustment of one uPVC window sash usually costs PLN 58 ‑ 125.
- A full adjustment of 10 to 12 windows throughout a house costs around PLN 660, making it cheaper per sash than individual jobs.
- Replacing the seals in one uPVC window usually costs PLN 100 ‑ 175.
- Replacing the window hardware (mechanism) costs around PLN 325 per sash, several times more than adjustment alone.
- The median adjustment price is based on 4 window repair service price lists collected by indekscen.pl.

A window that no longer closes properly, lets in a draught around the frame or needs to be pushed shut with your knee rarely needs replacing. In most cases, adjusting the hardware is enough, although new seals are sometimes required. We compare the cost of each repair based on window repair service price lists and explain what you can do yourself with an Allen key.
How much does it cost to adjust uPVC windows?
Adjusting uPVC windows most often costs PLN 88 per sash, according to 4 price lists collected by indekscen.pl, with half of all quotes falling within PLN 58 ‑ 125. The cheapest services start at PLN 50, while the most expensive charge up to PLN 150, usually when the price includes travel or a minimum call-out charge. The price covers correcting the hinges and pressure, lubricating the hardware and checking for draughts.
The number of sashes, not windows, determines the price. A double-sash window in a room counts as two items for the service provider, while a window with one fixed pane (which does not open) counts as only one. For example, a flat with five double-sash windows has 10 sashes, costing around PLN 880 at the median price (typically PLN 580 ‑ 1,300). A full package covering 10 to 12 windows throughout a house costs around PLN 660, so with more windows it is worth asking for a price for the entire job.

Window adjustment, new seals or new glazing: how much does each cost?
Adjusting the hardware is the cheapest window repair, replacing the seals costs a similar amount, while replacing the hardware or glazing is several times more expensive. A good technician therefore starts with adjustment and only recommends replacing parts if that does not solve the problem.
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Window adjustment | PLN 88 | PLN 58 ‑ 125 | 4 |
| Seal replacement in uPVC windows | PLN 110 | PLN 100 ‑ 175 | 5 |
| Window pane replacement | PLN 400 | PLN 300 ‑ 525 | 3 |

| Repair | Typical cost | When it is needed |
|---|---|---|
| Sash adjustment and lubrication | PLN 58 ‑ 125 per sash | the window has dropped, rubs against the frame or does not close properly |
| Replacing window seals | PLN 100 ‑ 175 per window | the seal is hard or cracked, or there is still a draught after adjustment |
| Replacing the hardware (mechanism) | around PLN 325 per sash | the handle jams or the espagnolette is broken |
| Replacing an insulated glass unit | PLN 300 ‑ 525 | cracked glass or condensation between the panes |
| Adjusting an entrance door | around PLN 120 | the door is difficult to close or the lock does not align |
Seal replacement is priced in different ways: some companies quote per window (median PLN 110), while others quote per linear metre. Large patio doors require more seal material, so the price increases. See seal replacement in uPVC windows for details.
What does switching windows between winter and summer modes involve?
Switching windows between winter and summer modes involves repositioning the eccentric cams (small oval pins on the edge of the sash) so that the sash presses more or less firmly against the frame. Winter mode applies more pressure and reduces draughts, while summer mode applies less pressure, which protects the seals and improves ventilation. Not every window has cams with adjustable pressure, as cheaper hardware sometimes has fixed locking points.
How to identify the mode: the cam has a marker, line or dot. When it points towards the seal, this usually indicates high pressure (winter); when it points towards the room, it indicates low pressure (summer). Adjust the cams with an Allen key or flat-nose pliers, setting all cams on a sash to the same position.
Practical tip: leaving windows in winter mode throughout the year compresses the seals more quickly. If you switch your windows to winter mode in autumn, return them to summer mode in spring.
How can you adjust windows for winter yourself?
You can adjust windows for winter yourself if they operate normally and only the pressure needs changing. All you need is an Allen key (4 mm for most hardware) and a few minutes per sash:
- Test the pressure with a sheet of paper. Place it between the sash and frame, then close the window. If the paper slides out without resistance, the pressure is too low at that point.
- Find the eccentric cams on the edge of the sash (they are visible when the window is open).
- Turn each cam by the same half-turn towards the higher-pressure setting.
- Close the window and check the handle. It should be slightly stiffer but should not require force. If it does, reverse the adjustment.
- Lubricate the hardware with machine oil or a spray lubricant intended for window hardware, and treat the seals with a silicone product.
If the window has dropped, rubs against the frame or has a jamming handle, attempting to adjust it yourself can easily make matters worse. It is better to pay PLN 88 per sash than to pay for replacement hardware later.
How do you adjust a dropped window?
A dropped window is adjusted at the lower hinge: the screw at the top or bottom of the hinge raises the entire sash, while the screw on the side moves it horizontally. The upper corner of the sash is moved using the screw by the stay arm, visible when the window is tilted open. Sashes most often drop in balcony doors and large windows because they are the heaviest, so these are where adjustment is needed most often.
The order matters: first set the sash position (hinges), then adjust the pressure (cams). Doing it in the opposite order will alter the pressure setting, which will change again once the sash is raised. Adjusting window pressure without first positioning the sash is a common DIY repair mistake.
How much does it cost to adjust balcony doors?
Adjusting uPVC balcony doors usually costs the same as adjusting a window sash, namely PLN 58 ‑ 125, because they use the same tilt-and-turn hardware. Large sliding patio doors (HS, PSK) can cost more: their mechanisms are different and some service providers price them individually, usually closer to the upper limit of PLN 150. Balcony doors fall out of adjustment more quickly than windows because they are heavier and opened several times a day, so it is worth checking them first during an inspection.
Typical signs of a poorly adjusted balcony door are a sash that rubs against the threshold at the bottom and a handle that has to be pressed firmly to close the door. Both problems can usually be fixed by raising the sash at the lower hinge.
When is adjustment not enough?
Adjustment will not help if the seal or hardware is worn. Signs to look for include:
- The seal is hard, flattened or cracked. It then needs replacing, usually at a cost of PLN 100 ‑ 175 per window.
- The handle is stiff in every position or jams halfway. This usually indicates a worn espagnolette, which costs around PLN 325 per sash to replace.
- There is condensation inside the glazing unit, between the panes. This indicates a failed seal, and replacement glazing typically costs PLN 300 ‑ 525.
- The frame is cracked or badly warped. Repair is then no longer cost-effective and should be compared with the cost of a new window. We cover window replacement prices in our article on replacing windows in a block of flats and at window replacement.
How can you avoid overpaying for window servicing?
- Have all your windows adjusted at once. A package for the entire house is cheaper per sash, and you only pay one call-out charge.
- Ask what the per-sash price includes. A good quote covers adjustment, hardware lubrication and a draught test. Seals and hardware are separate items.
- Ask for a parts quote before replacement. The technician should tell you whether adjustment will be enough before replacing the espagnolette.
- Arrange an inspection before the heating season. Window repair services receive the most enquiries in autumn, so September is better than November.
- Do not order an adjustment immediately after installation. The installation team should correct new windows under the warranty at no extra cost.
