Canine rehabilitation is most commonly recommended after orthopaedic surgery, for degenerative joint disease in an older animal or for sporting dogs. Two figures matter to the owner: how much the first appointment costs and how much the entire course will cost. Below, we compare veterinary physiotherapists’ price lists, calculate the cost of a sample course of therapy and compare it with other expenses involved in treating a dog. The amounts are medians from public price lists collected by indekscen.pl. A veterinary surgeon must always decide whether rehabilitation is needed and what form it should take.

How much does an appointment with a veterinary physiotherapist cost?

According to 4 price lists collected by indekscen.pl, an initial appointment with a veterinary physiotherapist costs from PLN 120 to PLN 180, with a median of PLN 165. The price usually includes a consultation, a physiotherapy examination of the animal (gait, joint range of motion and muscle tension) and selection of a treatment method. A compilation of quotations from price lists is available at animal physiotherapy (animal rehabilitation).

Factors affecting the price of an appointment with a veterinary physiotherapist:

  1. Initial consultation or follow-up appointment. The initial consultation includes a full examination, while follow-up appointments primarily involve treatment.
  2. Type of treatment. Manual therapy, laser therapy and magnetotherapy have different rates in price lists.
  3. Size of the dog and treatment location. A large dog and a home appointment require more time and travel.
  4. Packages. Practices offer packages of several appointments or therapy with an additional consultation, such as a nutritional consultation, which increases the total price.

What is zoophysiotherapy and which methods does it include?

Zoophysiotherapy is the rehabilitation of animals, mainly dogs and cats, as well as horses. It encompasses methods intended to restore mobility, reduce pain and maintain fitness. According to price lists, an initial consultation usually costs PLN 145 ‑ 180. Practice price lists most commonly include the following methods:

  • manual therapy and massage: hands-on work on muscles and joints, forming the basis of most appointments,
  • therapeutic exercises: using balls, balance cushions and poles, some of which the owner repeats at home,
  • physical therapies: laser therapy, magnetotherapy and electrical stimulation, usually priced separately from the consultation itself,
  • hydrotherapy: an underwater treadmill or swimming, available only at better-equipped centres,
  • kinesiology taping and selection of aids, such as harnesses to support the hind legs.

The price lists show that the initial appointment with a full examination costs the most, followed by treatments for which the dog returns regularly. The method alone is not an indicator of quality. The plan should be based on an examination and coordinated with veterinary treatment.

Rehabilitation is usually used in several situations: after orthopaedic procedures (for example, on the knee or hip), for degenerative changes in older animals, after injuries, for excess weight and to prevent injuries in sporting dogs. Ask the veterinary surgeon treating your dog whether rehabilitation is advisable in your case and when it can begin.

How much does canine rehabilitation cost? An example course of appointments

Canine rehabilitation usually involves a course of several to a dozen appointments, rather than a single session. If every appointment cost the median consultation price, a course of six sessions would cost around PLN 990 (typically PLN 870 ‑ 1,100), while ten would cost around PLN 1,700. In practice, follow-up appointments may be slightly less expensive than the first, while packages reduce the price per session.

Number of appointments Cost at the median Typical range
1 (consultation) PLN 165 PLN 145 ‑ 180
4 appointments PLN 660 PLN 580 ‑ 720
6 appointments PLN 990 PLN 870 ‑ 1,100
10 appointments PLN 1,700 PLN 1,500 ‑ 1,800

The number of appointments required depends on the animal’s condition and how quickly it recovers. This cannot be determined from price lists. After an examination, the veterinary physiotherapist establishes a treatment plan in consultation with the veterinary surgeon. Much of the work is also done at home using exercises demonstrated during an appointment, reducing the number of paid sessions.

Zoophysiotherapy and other canine treatment costs

A consultation with a veterinary physiotherapist (PLN 165) costs more than a basic veterinary appointment (PLN 80) because it lasts longer and includes treatment. Rehabilitation is rarely the first expense, however. It is usually preceded by diagnostic tests and sometimes surgery. These are the median prices of services most commonly required for canine joint and mobility problems:

Median and typical range from public price lists, as at 5 October 2026. Each price includes a source and quotation on the service page.

  • veterinary appointment: median PLN 80, around PLN 145 in large cities.
  • A dog’s X-ray: around PLN 140 per image, with a leg X-ray costing around PLN 60; anaesthesia, if required, is charged separately.
  • Patellar surgery for a dog: according to the limited available sources, from PLN 3,500 to PLN 17,000, depending on the degree of dislocation and the method used.

Compared with the cost of orthopaedic surgery, a course of rehabilitation represents a small portion of the total expense. Read more about the annual cost of owning a dog in our article how much does it cost to keep a dog.

Is canine physiotherapy more expensive than physiotherapy for people?

Canine physiotherapy is no more expensive than physiotherapy for people. A zoophysiotherapy consultation has a median price of PLN 165, while private physiotherapist appointment for people costs around PLN 180 (typically PLN 160 ‑ 200). The difference is more likely to result from the length of the appointment and scope of treatment than from who the patient is.

A home appointment increases the cost in both cases. According to price lists, a home physiotherapy appointment for a person costs around PLN 140. Mobile veterinary physiotherapists also charge for travel outside their service area. For a dog that does not tolerate travel well or cannot use stairs, however, a home appointment may be the only sensible option.

Zoophysiotherapy in Warsaw, Kraków and other cities: are there differences?

We do not yet have separate zoophysiotherapy prices for individual cities in the index because few practices publish price lists. The nationwide median consultation price is PLN 165. Veterinary prices may provide a useful indication: a basic appointment costs around PLN 145 in large cities (Warsaw, Kraków and Wrocław) and around PLN 85 in smaller localities. A similar difference can be expected among animal rehabilitation practices.

When looking for a practice, consider not only the price but also whether the veterinary physiotherapist works with the clinic treating your dog and has the equipment needed for the recommended therapy.

How can you avoid overpaying for canine rehabilitation? What to ask

  • What does the first appointment include: only an examination, or also the first treatment and a home exercise plan?
  • How much does a follow-up appointment cost, and is a discounted package of several sessions available?
  • Which treatments are included in the price, and which (laser therapy, magnetotherapy or an underwater treadmill) are charged separately?
  • Is a home appointment available, and how much does travel cost?
  • Will the therapist contact the veterinary surgeon responsible for the treatment?
  • Does the dog’s insurance reimburse rehabilitation costs? dog insurance usually costs 32 ‑ 79 PLN/month, but the scope of cover varies.

If the issue concerns the dog’s behaviour rather than its mobility (anxiety or reactivity), an animal behaviourist is the appropriate specialist. According to price lists, a consultation costs around 200 PLN/hour.
