A first visit to a shooting range may seem expensive or inexpensive depending on how you calculate the bill. Shooting ranges do not charge a single admission price: they sell ammunition by the round, charge separately for the shooting lane and instructor, and also offer packages that include everything. Below, we break down the cost, calculate typical scenarios (50 and 100 shots) and show how much it costs to obtain your own firearm. The figures are medians from public shooting range price lists and guides collected in the price index.

How much does a visit to a shooting range cost?

For a single visit to a shooting range, you will usually pay for the ammunition plus the shooting lane, and on your first visit, an instructor as well. According to 4 price lists collected by indekscen.pl, a 9 mm pistol cartridge costs around PLN 3.50 each. Shooting lane hire costs around 30 PLN/h, while an instructor costs around 63 PLN/h.

In practice, the bill looks like this:

Item Price (median from price lists) Notes
9 mm cartridge (pistol) PLN 3.50 charged for each shot
50 shots from a 9 mm pistol PLN 180 enough for a first visit
100 shots from a 9 mm pistol PLN 350 roughly two visits of 50 shots each
Shooting lane hire 30 PLN/h charged separately at some shooting ranges
Instructor 63 PLN/h usually compulsory on a first visit

We do not add these items together into a single figure because shooting ranges charge for them differently: one includes the lane in the ammunition price, another charges by the hour, and a third includes the instructor in a package. Always ask for the total price of the visit, not just the price of a cartridge. A full price comparison and quotations from price lists are available at shooting at a shooting range.

How much do shots at a shooting range cost?

A shot from a 9 mm pistol costs from PLN 3 to PLN 4 at a shooting range, most commonly around PLN 3.50. This is the most popular ammunition at recreational shooting ranges and the benchmark for other calibres.

The price of a shot depends primarily on the calibre. Small-calibre .22 LR ammunition is usually significantly cheaper than 9 mm and is well suited to a first training session. Rifle and shotgun ammunition costs more, while a shot from a large-calibre firearm can cost several times as much as a pistol shot. Our sources provide stable prices only for 9 mm, so we describe the other calibres without quoting prices: check them in the price list of your chosen shooting range.

The second factor is the firearm. At a commercial shooting range, you use a hired firearm and buy ammunition on site at the range’s listed price. Someone with a permit who shoots their own firearm often pays only for the lane.

How much do shooting lessons cost at a shooting range?

According to price lists, shooting lessons cost around 63 PLN/h for an instructor, plus the cost of ammunition and the shooting lane. On a first visit, an instructor or range officer is always present at the lane: they explain the safety rules and demonstrate grip, stance and aiming.

How to organise your lessons without overpaying:

  1. First visit with an instructor and a small amount of ammunition. 30 to 50 shots from one firearm are enough to learn the basics. 50 shots of 9 mm ammunition cost around PLN 180.
  2. Start with a smaller calibre. Less recoil lets you focus on technique, and the ammunition is cheaper.
  3. Schedule subsequent visits at regular times. Some shooting ranges offer cheaper lanes on weekdays and in the morning.
  4. Choose a package instead of individual items if you want to try several types of firearm. A package can offer better value than buying the same ammunition by the round.
  5. Join a shooting club if you shoot regularly. Club members often pay lower rates for shooting lanes.

How long does a shooting range session take?

Firing 50 shots takes between a dozen and several dozen minutes, but an entire first visit to a shooting range usually takes about an hour. This includes the safety briefing, loading magazines, changing targets and discussing the results.

A lane charged by the hour, at around 30 PLN/h, is therefore usually enough for one session. If several people take turns shooting at one lane, they share the lane cost, while only the ammunition bill increases.

Can you shoot at a shooting range without a permit?

Yes, you can shoot at a shooting range without a firearms permit if you use a firearm provided by the range under the supervision of a range officer. This is how all recreational shooting ranges operate: you need a permit to own a firearm, not to fire one at a shooting range.

Each shooting range has its own rules covering the minimum age, requirements for minors (usually permitted only with a guardian’s consent and in their presence), and a ban on shooting after consuming alcohol. Read the rules before booking and bring proof of identity with you.

How much does a firearms permit cost?

According to the sources, the total cost of obtaining a firearms permit is around PLN 2,750, typically PLN 2,650 ‑ 2,900, excluding the firearm and ammunition. This amount includes official fees, examinations, membership fees and equipment:

Official fees are fixed throughout Poland: the examination before a police board costs PLN 865, the stamp duty for the permit is PLN 242, and each certificate or purchase authorisation costs PLN 17. The remaining items depend on your choices: medical and psychological examinations cost around PLN 550, shooting club membership around 565 PLN/year, and an S1-class gun safe around PLN 1,000. You must also pay for shooting range practice before the examination, meaning ammunition and a shooting lane once again. It is worth confirming the details of the procedure, including the purpose of the permit and the required period of club membership, with the police administrative proceedings department or a lawyer.

The question ‘how much does it cost to build your own shooting range?’ concerns the construction of a facility with shooting lanes, bullet traps and permits. We do not have these costs in the index, so we do not estimate them.

A shooting range or another attraction: which costs less?

The ammunition alone for a shooting range visit with 50 shots costs around PLN 180, which is more than paintball admission at around 45 PLN/person, and more than one go-kart ride at around PLN 57. An escape room game, at around PLN 200 for the entire room, can be shared among several people.

For a group event, such as a birthday party, stag party or team-building event, a shooting range offers the best value when each participant fires a limited number of shots and the group shares the cost of the lane and instructor. What should you ask the shooting range before your visit?

  • Does the ammunition price include firearm hire, or is the firearm charged separately?
  • How is the shooting lane charged: by the hour, per person or included in the ammunition price?
  • Is the instructor included, or do you pay extra for their time?
  • Are hearing protection, safety glasses and targets included in the price?
  • Is a group package cheaper than buying ammunition by the round?
