- A one-hour horse riding lesson with an instructor usually costs PLN 80 ‑ 145, while the median from public price lists is PLN 105.
- Horse riding once a week costs around PLN 420 per month, typically PLN 320 ‑ 580.

Horse riding has a reputation for being an expensive sport, but a single lesson costs roughly the same as an hour with a personal trainer. The bill only becomes substantial when you ride regularly, as there are several lessons each month and, over time, you also need clothing and equipment. Based on public price lists from stables and equestrian centres, we calculated the monthly cost of riding at different frequencies.

How much does horse riding cost per month?
A month of horse riding costs around PLN 420 for one lesson a week and around PLN 840 for two. The table below shows costs at different frequencies, calculated using the median price of a one-hour lesson:
| Frequency | Lessons per month | Monthly cost | Typical range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Once a week | 4 | around PLN 420 | PLN 320 ‑ 580 |
| Twice a week | 8 | around PLN 840 | PLN 640 ‑ 1,200 |
| Three times a week | 12 | around PLN 1,300 | PLN 960 ‑ 1,700 |
| Once a week for a year | 48 | around PLN 5,000 | PLN 3,800 ‑ 7,000 |
In practice, the monthly cost may be lower if the stable sells passes for several or a dozen rides: an hour covered by a pass usually costs less than a single ride. Also ask whether the pass has an expiry date and what happens to an unused ride if you fall ill.
How many times a week should you ride?
Beginners usually ride once or twice a week, giving a monthly cost of between PLN 420 and PLN 840. One ride a week is enough to maintain your skills, but progress will be slow. Two rides a week are a common choice for people who want to learn rising trot and canter more quickly. Three or more rides a week are generally for people preparing for competitions or considering leasing a horse.
How much does horse riding for children cost?
Horse riding for a young child usually means a half-hour lunge or pony lesson costing around PLN 43. The instructor controls the horse using a lunge line, while the child learns balance and develops their seat without steering independently. Older children progress to group rides, which cost about the same as adult lessons, typically PLN 80 ‑ 145.
For comparison, these are other popular sporting activities for children and adults according to public price lists:
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Horse riding (lesson) | PLN 105 | PLN 80 ‑ 145 | 4 |
| Swimming lessons | PLN 72 | PLN 66 ‑ 84 | 3 |
| Personal trainer | PLN 140 | PLN 140 | 5 |
| Yoga classes | PLN 65 | PLN 58 ‑ 80 | 3 |
Median and typical range from public price lists, as at 5 October 2026. Each price includes a source and quotation on the service page.
A group swimming lessons lesson usually costs PLN 66 ‑ 84, which is less than a horse riding lesson, although the difference is not as large as often assumed. The median price of an hour with a personal trainer is PLN 140, while a single yoga class costs PLN 65. Horse riding is more expensive than most group activities because the lesson price includes the stable’s costs of keeping the horse: feed, farrier and veterinary care, as well as stable staff. This is why riding prices rarely fall, even outside the main season.
How much does a trail ride cost?
A trail ride with an instructor usually costs the same as a lesson in an arena, or PLN 80 ‑ 145 per hour, although some stables charge more for trail rides. Stables usually only allow riders who can control a horse independently at every gait, including canter, to go on trail rides, because a horse encounters more stimuli in a forest or field than in an arena. Passes for trail rides reduce the hourly price in much the same way as lesson passes.
If you only want to try riding, ask about being led on foot or taking a short walking-pace ride accompanied by an instructor: this is a good option for people who do not plan to take regular lessons.
How many lessons do you need to ride independently?
An adult beginner usually needs between a dozen and several dozen lessons before they can confidently ride independently at walk and trot, so learning the basics alone costs several times the median of PLN 105. Twenty lessons cost around PLN 2,100, while 30 cost around PLN 3,200. The pace depends on how often you ride, your fitness and whether the first lessons take place on a lunge line, where the instructor controls the horse while the rider develops their seat.
You cannot accelerate your learning with infrequent, long rides: two shorter lessons a week usually achieve more than one long lesson every two weeks.
What determines the price of horse riding?
The price of a horse riding lesson depends primarily on the region, the length of the ride and whether it is a private or group lesson. The most important factors are:
- Region and stable. Prices in Mazowieckie Voivodeship and near large cities are higher than at rural stables.
- Ride duration. Stables charge for 30, 45 or 60 minutes, so compare the hourly price.
- Private or group lesson. A private lesson is more expensive, but the instructor focuses solely on you.
- Arena or trail. Trail rides may be more expensive and require greater skill.
- Rider’s age and ability. Children’s lunge lessons are shorter and cheaper.
How much does horse riding cost now and what else do you need to buy?
In 2026, a lesson alone typically costs PLN 80 ‑ 145, but riding regularly also requires basic equipment. To begin with, stables often lend out helmets, while comfortable trousers and boots with a low heel are sufficient. If you ride regularly, it is worth buying your own certified riding helmet, breeches and paddock boots or riding boots. Equipment prices are not included in our index, so we do not provide figures.
You should also consider personal accident insurance: some stables require riders to have it or include it in the ride price.
How can you pay less for horse riding?
- Buy passes instead of individual rides if you know you will ride regularly.
- Ride in a group if you do not need the instructor’s individual attention.
- Compare stables outside the city. Travel costs money, but lessons can be considerably cheaper.
- Ask about weekday prices. At some stables, weekday rides cost a different amount from weekend rides, and horses are more readily available.
- Do not buy all the equipment immediately. Start with a helmet and comfortable clothing, then buy the rest once you know you want to continue riding.
