A government-funded IVF programme has also been available to couples who meet the criteria since June 2024.

The decision to undergo IVF is primarily a medical and personal one, but the question of cost soon arises. Clinic price lists can be difficult to compare: one clinic quotes the price of the cycle alone, another offers a package with care, while embryo transfer, medication and embryo freezing are charged differently. How much does one IVF embryo transfer cost?

Embryo transfer after an IVF cycle costs around PLN 1,850 and is charged separately at most clinics. The price depends on whether a fresh embryo is transferred immediately after the cycle or a frozen embryo is thawed and transferred in a subsequent cycle. If several embryos are created in one cycle, subsequent frozen embryo transfers usually cost less than an entirely new cycle because ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval do not need to be repeated.

How much do pre-IVF tests cost?

Individual pre-IVF tests cost a fraction of the cycle price, and their scope is always determined by a doctor. For women, the basic tests include hormone tests such as AMH, which indicates ovarian reserve and costs around PLN 200, and a transvaginal ultrasound costing around PLN 155. For men, the basic test is a semen analysis, costing around PLN 270; more information is available on the fertility testing page.

Some of these tests can be performed at a standard laboratory before the couple visits a clinic. However, it is worth asking the clinic in advance which results it will accept and how recent they must be, so you do not pay twice for the same test.

What determines the cost of IVF?

The cost of IVF depends on the clinic and city, the scope of the procedure and how many additional items need to be included. The most important factors are:

• Scope of the cycle: the cycle alone or a package with tests and care; the fertilisation method (conventional or ICSI).
• Medication doses, which the doctor selects individually.
• Number of embryos to be genetically tested and frozen.
• Number of transfers required to achieve pregnancy.
• Funding: participation in a government or local-authority programme makes the greatest difference to the final bill.

What makes up the cost of IVF?

IVF costs comprise several separate items, which clinics combine into packages in different ways. These are the median prices for the components for which we have data:

How much does it cost to become pregnant through IVF?

The total cost of becoming pregnant through IVF depends mainly on the number of cycles and embryo transfers required, which cannot be predicted in advance. One cycle usually costs PLN 7,000 ‑ 8,650, plus the embryo transfer (around PLN 1,850), medication and tests. If two full cycles are needed, the procedures alone cost around PLN 15,000, excluding transfers and medication. Some couples become pregnant after the first transfer, while others need several attempts; discuss your realistic chances with the doctor overseeing your treatment.

Extended packages costing around PLN 18,000 include comprehensive treatment with additional tests and care. Before selecting a package, check exactly what it includes and whether subsequent embryo transfers are covered.

When is IVF free?

IVF may be free under the government-funded programme that has been operating since June 2024 for couples who meet the eligibility criteria. The programme is provided by selected fertility centres, whose doctors determine eligibility. Some local authorities also run their own funding programmes. Our prices apply only to private treatment without reimbursement, so before paying, ask the clinic and the doctor overseeing your treatment whether you are eligible for a programme.

Is IVF worthwhile after 40?

IVF is performed after the age of 40, but the chances of pregnancy decrease with age, mainly because of the lower number and quality of eggs. The decision on whether treatment is worthwhile rests with the doctor, who will consider factors including the AMH test result (around PLN 200), ultrasound results and treatment history. Doctors are more likely to recommend genetic embryo testing in this age group; PGT-A testing of the first embryo usually costs PLN 3,500 ‑ 3,750. What are the disadvantages of IVF?

The main disadvantages of IVF are the cost, the physical burden of ovarian stimulation and uncertainty about the outcome. Treatment requires frequent appointments and tests, and a single attempt does not guarantee pregnancy, so the expense and stress may recur. The procedure also involves medical risks, which the doctor should discuss before treatment begins. Before making a decision, ask the clinic about these risks and request a written cost estimate.

What should you ask the clinic before starting IVF?

1. What exactly the cycle price includes: egg retrieval, anaesthesia, ICSI and how many days of embryo culture.
2. How much fresh and frozen embryo transfers cost.
3. What the estimated cost of medication is in your case.
4. How much embryo freezing and storage cost and what period the fee covers.
5. Whether the clinic participates in a funded programme and what the eligibility criteria are.
6. Which pre-assessment tests you can have done in advance at a standard laboratory for less than the package price.
