A walk-in shower with a linear drain is now one of the most common ideas for a bathroom renovation. However, the estimate for such a shower can be misleading: in one quote, “drain installation” means only fitting the channel, while in another it covers the entire job, including the slope, waterproofing and tiling. We break the cost down into individual items based on tradespeople’s price lists, making quotes easy to compare.
How much does linear drain installation cost: labour prices in 2026?
In 2026, labour for installing a linear drain most often costs PLN 425, according to 3 sources collected by indekscen.pl, while half of the quotes fall within PLN 390 ‑ 440. The cheapest quotes start at PLN 200, while the most expensive reach PLN 600. This price covers only fitting the channel and trap in a prepared bathroom.
Rates are higher for longer drains, in older buildings with uneven floor slabs and in large cities. Details and quotes from the sources are available at linear drain installation.
| Linear drain installation: option | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic service | PLN 425 | PLN 390 ‑ 440 | 3 |

What is not included in the price of linear drain installation?
The price of linear drain installation does not include materials or floor preparation, yet these determine the final bill. Creating a slope towards the drain is a separate item, costing around PLN 550, while waterproofing and tiling are priced per square metre.
| Estimate item | Typical labour rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Linear drain installation | PLN 390 ‑ 440 | excluding the channel and trap |

How much does a shower with a linear drain cost: labour example
Example: a walk-in shower with around 2 m² of floor area and waterproofing and tiles covering approximately 6 m² of walls, giving a total of 8 m² to waterproof and tile. At median rates, the labour costs are as follows:
- Linear drain installation: around PLN 425.
- Creating the slope: around PLN 550.
- Waterproofing 8 m²: around PLN 460 (typically PLN 410 ‑ 530).
- Tiling 8 m²: around PLN 1,000 (typically PLN 840 ‑ 1,300).
Materials are additional: a channel with a grate, trap, liquid membrane, sealing tapes, adhesive and tiles. Many contractors quote a fixed price for the entire shower area as part of a bathroom renovation, so ask for an itemised breakdown when comparing quotes. We describe the full renovation cost at bathroom renovation, while more information about waterproofing is available in the article waterproofing: price per m².
Installing a wall-adjacent or in-wall linear drain: is it more expensive?
Installing a wall-adjacent linear drain usually falls within the same price range as installing a standard one, PLN 390 ‑ 440, but requires greater precision when waterproofing the joint between the wall and floor. A wall-adjacent drain is fitted directly beside the wall, so the floor slopes in one direction and large-format floor tiles can be laid without envelope cuts.
An in-wall drain, with its outlet concealed in the wall, requires the component to be fitted into the masonry or a wall casing before waterproofing. This involves more work than installing a channel in the floor, so the price is closer to the upper limit, up to PLN 600, and a wall casing may also be required.
How should the floor be prepared for a linear drain?
Preparing the floor for a linear drain involves several steps, each of which affects watertightness and price:
- Checking the available depth. The trap must fit beneath the floor, with enough depth left to create the slope.
- Fitting the channel at the correct height and level, connecting it to the waste pipe and carrying out a leak test.
- Creating the slope, usually with screed, towards the drain. This costs around PLN 550.
- Waterproofing with sealing tapes at the corners and a sealing flange around the channel.
- Tiles and grout, preferably epoxy grout in the shower area.
The most common mistake is an insufficient slope or a channel fitted too high, causing water to remain on the tiles. Correcting it means removing the tiles and repeating the work, so cutting costs at this stage makes little sense.
Installing a linear drain in a block of flats and on polystyrene insulation
Installing a linear drain in a block of flats is usually more expensive than in a new house because older floor slabs often lack sufficient depth for the trap and slope and may be uneven. Low-profile traps are then used, or the floor in the shower area is raised, with the rate approaching the upper end of the PLN 390 ‑ 440 range.
In a new house, the drain is often embedded in screed laid over polystyrene insulation. The channel must be securely fixed so that it does not move when the screed is poured, and the insulation must be cut appropriately around the trap. Floor screed with materials usually costs around 80 PLN/m².
What are the disadvantages of a linear drain?
The main disadvantages of a linear drain are its higher cost compared with a shower enclosure with a tray, the need for sufficient depth beneath the floor and the need to clean the channel regularly. By comparison, shower enclosure installation with a shower tray usually costs PLN 390 ‑ 700 in labour and does not require a sloped floor or waterproofing of the entire area.
Other drawbacks worth knowing about include:
- Sensitivity to installation errors. An incorrectly formed slope and leaking waterproofing may only become apparent months later, beneath the tiles.
- Water on the bathroom floor in a shower without a screen if the slope is insufficient.
- The channel collects hair and soap, so it needs cleaning every few weeks.

How can you prevent smells from a linear drain?
Smells from a linear drain are most often caused by a dirty trap or a dry water seal when the shower has not been used for a long time. Regularly cleaning the channel and trap helps, while bathrooms used infrequently benefit from a trap with additional odour protection, known as a dry trap. If the smell persists despite cleaning, the cause may be an incorrectly fitted connection or inadequate venting of the waste system, which requires a plumber. A plumber usually charges PLN 120 ‑ 375 for a simple job.
How can you avoid overpaying for a linear drain?
- Ask for an itemised quote: installation, slope, waterproofing and tiles. A single price “for the shower” makes comparison difficult.
- Ask for a leak test before the drain is covered with tiles.
- Choose the channel length to suit the shower, without adding unnecessary length, as a longer drain costs more to install and purchase. The cheapest quotes, starting at PLN 200, usually cover short channels in a well-prepared bathroom.
- Make sure the work is done in the correct order. Tiles should only be laid after the screed and waterproofing have dried.

Frequently asked questions
How much does linear drain installation cost?
Sam montaż odpływu liniowego kosztuje zwykle PLN 390 ‑ 440 robocizny, od PLN 200 do PLN 600 zależnie od firmy i długości odpływu. Materiały, czyli rynna, syfon i folia w płynie, są osobno.
How much does it cost to create a slope towards a linear drain?
Wyprofilowanie spadku pod odpływ liniowy kosztuje około PLN 550 robocizny i jest osobną pozycją kosztorysu, niezależną od montażu samego wpustu.
How long does linear drain installation take?
Sam montaż rynny i syfonu to zwykle kilka godzin pracy, ale cały prysznic trwa kilka dni, bo wylewka ze spadkiem i hydroizolacja muszą wyschnąć przed układaniem płytek.
Can a linear drain be installed in an old block of flats?
How much does it cost to install a shower enclosure instead of a linear drain?
Montaż kabiny z brodzikiem kosztuje zwykle PLN 390 ‑ 700 robocizny i nie wymaga wykonywania spadku ani hydroizolacji całej strefy, więc całość wychodzi taniej niż prysznic z odpływem liniowym.
