At a glance (as at 5 October 2026)
- Grinding a concrete floor usually costs 38 ‑ 56 PLN/m², with a median of 55 PLN/m².
- Concrete milling, which involves deeper treatment of the floor, costs around 85 PLN/m².
- Polishing concrete to a gloss costs around 140 PLN/m², several times more than standard grinding.
- Hiring a concrete grinder for DIY work costs around PLN 110.
- At the median, grinding a 50 m² garage floor costs around PLN 2,800 (typically PLN 1,900 ‑ 2,800).

Concrete grinding is commissioned in two situations: when the floor is to remain exposed but smooth and durable (in a garage, workshop or loft), or when the substrate needs to be prepared for resin, panels or tiles. In both cases, contractors charge per square metre, but the rate depends on how deeply the concrete must be ground and the required finish. We collected prices for grinding, milling and polishing from company price lists and compared them with other floor-finishing methods.
How much does concrete grinding cost per m2?
Concrete grinding most often costs 55 PLN/m², according to 3 price lists and articles collected by indekscen.pl, while the typical range is 38 ‑ 56 PLN/m². The cheapest quotes, starting from 15 PLN/m², are for large areas and shallow levelling. The most expensive, up to 100 PLN/m², are for small jobs or hard, very uneven floors.
The price includes running a grinding machine over the entire surface. Impregnation or other protection for the concrete after grinding, as well as waste removal, are usually charged separately. The data and sources are available on the concrete grinding and polishing page.
Concrete grinding, milling or polishing: what is the difference?
Concrete grinding, milling and polishing differ in the depth of treatment and the resulting finish, and therefore also in the price per square metre. Grinding levels the top of the floor and removes cement laitance. Milling removes a thicker layer, such as old paint, adhesive and resin. Polishing involves several passes with progressively finer discs until a glossy finish is achieved.

| Scope of work | Price per m² | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Grinding (levelling) | 38 ‑ 56 PLN/m² | preparation for resin, panels or adhesive; exposed garage floor |
| Milling (deeper treatment) | around 85 PLN/m² | removing old coatings and larger uneven areas |
| Polishing to a gloss | around 140 PLN/m² | decorative flooring in a home, loft or living room |
The milling and polishing prices come from individual price lists, so treat them as a guide. For polishing to a gloss, ask whether the price includes a hardening impregnator, as without it the concrete will lose its sheen more quickly.
What affects the labour cost of concrete grinding?
The labour cost of concrete grinding depends mainly on the depth of treatment and the floor area: shallow levelling of a large hall costs several times less per square metre than polishing a small room. Contractors consider several factors:
- Scope of work. Standard levelling requires several passes, while polishing to a gloss may require more than a dozen, using a finer disc each time.
- Hardness and condition of the substrate. Hard concrete wears diamond discs more quickly, while cracks and cavities must be filled first.
- Old coatings. Paint, flooring adhesive or resin residue requires milling, which is more expensive than grinding.
- Size of the job. The price per square metre falls for large areas and rises for small ones.
- Additional charges. Dust extraction, waste disposal and impregnation are often not included in the rate per square metre.
When can a new concrete screed be ground?
A new concrete screed is usually ground only after several weeks, once the concrete has gained sufficient strength. Before resin is applied, it must also dry to the moisture level recommended by the manufacturer. Grinding too early tears aggregate out of the soft concrete and leaves holes. It is best to agree the timing with the flooring contractor, who knows which mix was used.
How much does grinding a 50 m² garage floor cost?
At the median, grinding a concrete floor in a 50 m² garage costs around PLN 2,800, and typically PLN 1,900 ‑ 2,800. If old paint must be removed and the floor milled, the bill rises roughly to the price of the milling option, or around 85 PLN/m² per square metre.
For small areas, such as a single-car garage, contractors often have a minimum charge because travel and setting up the machine cost them as much as for a large hall. Ask about it at the start of the conversation.
How much does it cost to hire a concrete grinder?
Hiring a concrete grinder for DIY work costs around PLN 110, according to a hire company’s price list. You must also allow for diamond discs (often charged according to wear by hire companies), an industrial vacuum cleaner and transport for the machine, which weighs several dozen kilograms.
DIY grinding is cost-effective for straightforward levelling of a small floor. For polishing to a gloss or milling off old coatings, it is better to hire a company: the work requires several passes with different discs and experience, and any mistake will subsequently be visible across the entire surface.
Grinding concrete by hand with an angle grinder: is it worthwhile?
Grinding concrete by hand with an angle grinder and a diamond cup wheel makes sense for small areas: thresholds, stairs, isolated uneven areas and edges along walls. When used on an entire floor, an angle grinder leaves ripples and disc marks, and the work takes many times longer than with a planetary grinder.
Concrete sandpaper is suitable only for smoothing small areas, for example after filling. Any manual work requires a vacuum cleaner connected to a disc guard because concrete dust damages the lungs. A dust mask and safety glasses are the minimum protection required.
Wet or dry concrete grinding?
Wet concrete grinding produces almost no dust, cools the discs and gives a smoother surface, but leaves slurry that must be collected and disposed of. Dry grinding is faster and cleaner in terms of water, but requires efficient dust extraction. In an occupied home, contractors usually work dry with an industrial vacuum cleaner and finish the polishing wet.
The working method also affects additional charges: some companies charge separately for dust extraction and waste disposal. Ask for a quote that includes these items so that you can compare like with like.
Ground concrete or resin flooring: which is better value?
Ground concrete is several times cheaper than resin flooring: 55 PLN/m² compared with 200 PLN/m² for resin flooring including materials. Resin provides a uniform colour, is easier to clean and is more resistant to oil stains, which is why it is chosen for garages and workshops. Ground and impregnated concrete is sufficient where price and a raw appearance matter most.
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Concrete grinding and polishing | 55 PLN/m² | 38 ‑ 56 PLN/m² | 3 |
| Resin flooring (epoxy/polyurethane) | 200 PLN/m² | 110 ‑ 225 PLN/m² | 5 |
| Epoxy flooring installation | 265 PLN/m² | 185 ‑ 300 PLN/m² | 4 |
| Screed (flooring) | 45 PLN/m² | 45 PLN/m² | 3 |
Median and typical range from public price lists, as at 5 October 2026. Each price includes a source and quotation on the service page.
It is worth remembering that the concrete must be ground before resin is applied anyway, so grinding is often included in the price of resin flooring. Complete epoxy flooring installation usually costs 185 ‑ 300 PLN/m². If the floor is so damaged that grinding will not help, the remaining option is a new screed (flooring) at around 45 PLN/m² for labour alone. We cover screeds in more detail in the article concrete screed: labour cost excluding materials, and decorative floors in microcement in the bathroom.
How can you avoid overpaying for concrete grinding?
- Measure the area and give the dimensions to the contractor together with photos of the floor, as the condition of the concrete determines the number of passes required.
- Specify the required finish: levelling for another layer, an exposed floor or a glossy finish. These have three different prices.
- Ask about additional charges: dust extraction, waste disposal, impregnation and the minimum job charge.
- Combine jobs. Having the garage and basement done at the same time costs less per square metre than two separate visits.

Frequently asked questions
How much does concrete grinding cost per square metre?
Szlifowanie betonu kosztuje najczęściej 55 PLN/m², a typowy przedział to 38 ‑ 56 PLN/m². Najtańsze oferty zaczynają się od 15 PLN/m², najdroższe sięgają 100 PLN/m² za zwykłe szlifowanie.
Can concrete be ground?
Tak, beton szlifuje się maszynami z tarczami diamentowymi: od zgrubnego wyrównania po polerowanie na połysk. Szlifowanie usuwa mleczko cementowe, nierówności i stare powłoki, a przygotowana posadzka lepiej trzyma żywicę albo klej.
How much does floor milling cost?
Frezowanie posadzki betonowej kosztuje około 85 PLN/m². Frezowanie zdejmuje grubszą warstwę niż szlifowanie, na przykład stare powłoki albo kilka milimetrów nierówności.
How much does it cost to seal concrete after grinding?
Is concrete grinding a dirty job?
Szlifowanie na sucho bez odkurzacza przemysłowego mocno pyli, dlatego wykonawcy pracują z odsysaniem albo na mokro. Za odsysanie pyłu i wywóz urobku część firm dolicza opłatę, więc zapytaj o nią przed zleceniem.
