Taxi price per km in 2026: examples of 5, 10, 50 and 100 km journeys
indekscen.pl editorial team · published 30 September 2026 · prices according to the 5 October 2026 index
The daytime taxi price per km in Poland is most commonly 3 PLN/km (typically 2 ‑ 4 PLN/km, ranging from 1.89 PLN/km to 5 PLN/km in price lists). There is also an initial charge, usually around PLN 7. A 10 km journey therefore costs around PLN 30 for the distance alone, excluding time spent in traffic.
At a glance (as at 5 October 2026)
- A kilometre by taxi on the daytime tariff usually costs 2 ‑ 4 PLN/km, with a median of 3 PLN/km.
- The initial taxi charge, added to every journey, is usually around PLN 7.
- A 10 km taxi journey costs around PLN 30 for the distance alone, typically PLN 20 ‑ 40.
- Based on the median, a 100 km taxi journey costs around PLN 300 for the distance, excluding the initial charge and waiting time.
- The median price per kilometre comes from 4 taxi company price lists collected by indekscen.pl.

The price per kilometre is only one of three items on a taxi receipt. The second is the initial charge for getting into the taxi, and the third is the time spent waiting or stuck in traffic. This is why the same journey can cost a different amount in the morning and evening, even if the rate per kilometre has not changed. Below, we break down the fare and calculate example journeys using taxi company price lists.
How much does 1 km by taxi cost?
One kilometre by taxi on the daytime tariff in Poland most commonly costs 3 PLN/km, according to 4 company price lists collected by indekscen.pl. Half of the price lists fall within the 2 ‑ 4 PLN/km range. The cheapest companies in large Silesian cities charge from 1.89 PLN/km, while the most expensive suburban taxis charge up to 5 PLN/km.
Details, quotations from price lists and the dates on which they were checked are available on the taxi journey (per kilometre) page. However, the rate per kilometre is not the full fare. Before comparing two companies, check three things:
- Initial charge, the amount added when the taximeter is switched on. The median is PLN 7.
- Tariff. The daytime tariff is the cheapest. Night-time, public holiday and out-of-town tariffs are higher.
- Waiting charge, calculated per minute or hour when the car is stuck in traffic or waiting for the passenger.
Taxi price per km: examples of journeys over different distances
A 10 km taxi journey costs around PLN 30 for the distance alone, before the initial charge and any waiting time are added. The table below shows the cost of the distance on typical routes based on the median and typical range of rates. Add the initial charge of around PLN 7 separately to each journey.
| Route | Distance cost based on the median | Typical range | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 km | PLN 20 | PLN 10 ‑ 20 | journey through the city centre |
| 10 km | PLN 30 | PLN 20 ‑ 40 | from a residential area to the railway station |
| 20 km | PLN 60 | PLN 40 ‑ 80 | from the city centre to the airport |
| 50 km | PLN 150 | PLN 100 ‑ 200 | to a neighbouring town or city |
| 100 km | PLN 300 | PLN 200 ‑ 400 | intercity journey |
On short journeys, the initial charge makes up a large part of the bill, while on long journeys it is almost insignificant. For a 5 km journey, compare the initial charge (PLN 7) with the distance cost (PLN 20): it is a substantial part of the bill.
How much does a taxi cost for 100 km?
Based on the median, a 100 km taxi journey costs around PLN 300 for the distance alone, typically PLN 200 ‑ 400. In practice, the taximeter is rarely used for such long journeys. Taxi companies offer a fixed fare equivalent to around 3 PLN/km, or less if you negotiate well. Also ask whether the price includes the empty return journey: some companies charge for the return trip, especially outside the municipality (gmina).
If you are travelling in a group, compare a taxi with a minibus and driver. Point-to-point hire of a 9-seater minibus with a driver costs around PLN 700. Read more about minibus prices in our article on 9-seater minibus hire.
What determines the price of a taxi?
Taxi prices depend primarily on the city and taxi company, as each municipality (gmina) sets maximum rates and each company sets its own price list below that limit. Other factors include:
- Time of day and day of the week. Night-time and public holiday tariffs are higher than daytime tariffs.
- Zone. A more expensive tariff usually applies outside the city limits because the driver has to return without a passenger.
- Traffic. Time spent stationary or driving slowly is charged separately, so journeys during rush hour cost more.
- How you book. A taxi booked by phone or through the company’s app has a known price list. A taxi hailed at a rank by a railway station or airport may be more expensive.
- Journey length. The rate per kilometre may be lower on longer journeys, especially with a fixed fare.
We do not yet publish local median taxi prices for individual cities because we have too few price lists from each city. You can check the maximum rates in your municipality (gmina) in a city council resolution, and the company’s price list must be displayed in the car.
Taxi in Warsaw: price per 1 km
In Warsaw, the price per 1 km by taxi depends on the company and must be within the maximum rates set by the city council. We do not yet have a separate median for the capital, so use the national median of 3 PLN/km and the 2 ‑ 4 PLN/km range as a guide. Before your journey, check the price-list sticker on the window: it must show the initial charge and the rates for all tariffs.
Which is cheaper: Bolt or a taxi?
Bolt and Uber do not have a fixed rate per kilometre like a metered taxi. The app gives the price of the entire journey in advance, calculated based on distance, time and current demand. At quieter times, a journey booked through an app may be cheaper than a traditional taxi, but on a Friday evening, in the rain or after a concert, the price in the app can increase several times over. A metered taxi then has an advantage because its rates do not change with demand.
We do not publish a median for app-booked journeys because their prices change from minute to minute. A practical tip: before travelling, check the price in the app and compare it with the calculation in the table above (the rate per kilometre multiplied by the route length, plus the initial charge).
Taxi to the airport or airport parking?
A taxi to an airport 20 km away costs around PLN 60 one way for the distance, or around PLN 120 for a return journey, plus two initial charges. By comparison, the median price of a week at an airport car park is 160 PLN/week, rising to 490 PLN/week at official car parks in Warsaw.
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi journey (per kilometre) | 3 PLN/km | 2 ‑ 4 PLN/km | 4 |
| Airport parking | 160 PLN/week | 150 ‑ 235 PLN/week | 8 |
| Car hire | 84 PLN/day | 74 ‑ 85 PLN/day | 7 |
Median and typical range from public price lists, as at 5 October 2026. Each price includes a source and quotation on the service page.
Conclusion: for a short trip and a long distance from the airport, parking costs about the same or less, while for a long trip and a nearby airport, a taxi is usually the better option. If you need a car at your destination after your flight, hiring a city car costs around 84 PLN/day.
How can you avoid overpaying for a taxi?
- Book by phone or through the taxi company’s app, instead of taking a car from a rank by the railway station.
- Ask for the price before the journey. The dispatcher will usually provide an estimate for the specified route.
- Check that the taximeter is switched on and shows the correct tariff. Using the night-time tariff during the day is a common error.
- Negotiate a fixed fare for a long journey. A fixed price protects you from extra charges caused by traffic jams and diversions.
- Ask for a receipt. Without one, it is difficult to make a complaint to the taxi company or city authorities.
If your car breaks down and you need to transport the vehicle rather than a passenger, the price per kilometre is different. You can find a comparison in our article on how much a recovery vehicle costs per km. More travel-related prices are available in the travel and trips category.

Frequently asked questions
How much does 1 km by taxi cost?
Jeden kilometr jazdy taksówką w taryfie dziennej kosztuje zwykle 2 ‑ 4 PLN/km, a mediana z cenników korporacji to 3 PLN/km. Najtańsze cenniki zaczynają się od 1.89 PLN/km, najdroższe dochodzą do 5 PLN/km.
How much is the initial taxi charge?

Can a taxi driver charge more than the taximeter shows?
Nie, przy kursie liczonym według taksometru płacisz kwotę z wyświetlacza i paragonu. Stawki maksymalne ustala rada gminy, a korporacja nie może ich przekroczyć. Zawsze proś o paragon z kasy fiskalnej.
Do you also pay for time spent in traffic?
How much does a taxi cost for 50 km?
Przejazd taksówką na 50 km to za same kilometry około PLN 150, typowo PLN 100 ‑ 200. Na dłuższe trasy warto zapytać o ryczałt, bo bywa tańszy niż jazda z włączonym taksometrem.
