This wide range is not an error, but the result of combining two types of offer in one comparison:
- Rolled turf alone (material collected from the turf farm or delivered for an additional charge) is at the lower end of the range, around the median or below.
- A complete lawn installation (ground preparation, soil, fertiliser, laying and rolling) is at the upper end of the range. For laying a lawn, the rolled turf option including materials and installation has a median of 50 PLN/m².

How much does labour cost for rolled turf?
The labour cost for rolled turf is the difference between the complete-service price, around 50 PLN/m², and the price of the turf alone, which starts at 8 PLN/m² in price lists. We do not have a separate median for laying turf alone because most companies do not offer installation without ground preparation.
This difference usually covers:
- Removing old turf and weeds, sometimes with weedkiller applied several weeks earlier.
- Digging or rotavating the soil and bringing in additional soil if there is not enough.
- Levelling and rolling: according to 4 price lists, land levelling usually costs 8.50 ‑ 15 PLN/m², depending on the shape and gradient of the plot.
- Starter fertiliser and laying the rolls with staggered joints, like bricks in a wall.
- Rolling and initial watering, which determine whether the turf becomes established.
Additional items, usually listed separately in price lists, may include mole netting, disposal of turf and soil, and an irrigation system. Ask about each of these before signing the contract.

At the median price, rolled turf alone for 200 m² costs around PLN 3,800, with a typical range of PLN 3,200 ‑ 10,000 (the lower end is for the material alone, while the upper end already includes installation offers). Ground preparation and labour must be added if you do not do them yourself.

If you order a complete rolled turf installation, the company will charge a comprehensive rate, around 50 PLN/m² per metre in price lists. For 200 m², it is worth negotiating: larger areas have lower per-metre rates in price lists, and turf farms offer volume discounts above specified thresholds.
Rolled turf or seed: which offers better value?
A seeded lawn is cheaper: complete installation with ground preparation has a median of 21 PLN/m², while a complete rolled turf installation costs around 50 PLN/m². The difference comes almost entirely from the material because the ground preparation is the same in both cases.
With rolled turf, you are paying to save time. The rolls provide a green lawn on the same day, and after a few weeks it can be walked on normally. A seeded lawn usually needs a full season to become dense without bare patches, and during that time it requires regular watering and weeding.
When rolled turf is worth the higher price:
- at a home with young children or a dog that would dig up freshly sown seed,
- on a slope where rain would wash away the seeds,
- when the lawn must be ready by a specific date (moving day or a garden party),
- over a small area where the difference in PLN is modest.

What are the disadvantages of rolled turf?
The main disadvantage of rolled turf is the price: the median price-list rate for rolled turf (19 PLN/m²) is similar to the median cost of a complete seeded lawn including labour (21 PLN/m²). The second disadvantage is its vulnerability during the first few weeks. The rolls should ideally be laid on the day of delivery because rolled-up turf quickly turns yellow. It must then be watered daily until the roots grow into the soil beneath.
Rolled turf will not improve poor soil either. If there is construction rubble or heavy clay underneath, after a year a rolled lawn will look just as poor as a seeded one. It is therefore better to spend money on the ground first and only then on the turf. The grass mixture in rolled turf is also selected in advance by the turf farm, whereas with seeding you can choose seeds suited to shade or intensive use.
When should rolled turf be laid?
Rolled turf is best laid in spring (April or May) or early autumn (September or early October), when it is warm but not hot and the soil is moist. It can also be laid in summer, but the grass then needs watering several times a day and is less likely to become established.
Spring appointments are the most sought-after at gardening companies. It is easier to find an available date in autumn, sometimes at a better price, and the lawn will have time to take root before winter.
How should rolled turf be cared for to prevent it from failing?
For the first two or three weeks, rolled turf must be watered daily so that the water soaks through the turf into the soil underneath. The first mowing should be done when the grass has visibly grown and the rolls are firmly rooted in the ground.
