SEP qualifications are actually a qualification certificate issued by an examination board, and their price consists of two parts: the statutory exam fee and an optional preparatory course. The first is almost the same throughout Poland, while the second depends on the training provider. We break down the cost based on fees quoted by examination boards and training price lists.
How much do SEP qualifications up to 1 kV cost in 2026?
SEP qualifications up to 1 kV cost PLN 480 in 2026, as this is the fee for a qualification exam in one group. Differences between examination boards are small: quoted amounts range from PLN 466 to PLN 486, as some sources still list the previous year’s rate. The median comes from 3 sources collected by indekscen.pl, with details available at sEP electrical qualifications.
The fee is set by law at one-tenth of the minimum wage. This means that every year, when the minimum wage rises, the exam price also increases. The fee does not include a preparatory course or translation of the certificate into another language.
| Option | What it includes | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Exam only, one group | one exam attempt | PLN 480 |
| Preparatory training | course, often online | from around PLN 95 |
| Package: training and exam | course including the exam fee | around PLN 800 |
| Three groups (G1, G2, G3) | three separate exams | around PLN 1,400 |
How do groups G1, G2 and G3 differ, and how much does each cost?
SEP qualification groups differ according to the type of equipment: G1 covers electrical equipment, G2 thermal equipment (such as boilers and district heating networks), and G3 gas equipment. Each group costs the same, PLN 480 per exam, but each requires a separate exam and fee. An electrician who also wants to work with gas boilers will therefore pay for two groups, around PLN 960.
There are two categories in each group: E, meaning operation (operation, maintenance, repairs, installation, inspection and testing), and D, meaning supervision (managing and supervising work). Category D is intended for people who supervise others and has stricter requirements. The scope of the qualifications, for example “up to 1 kV” or “authorised to carry out testing”, is stated on the certificate.
How much do SEP qualifications up to 15 kV cost?
SEP qualifications up to 15 kV cost the same as those up to 1 kV, namely PLN 480 for a G1 exam, because the exam fee does not depend on the voltage range. One source states explicitly that the fee is the same regardless of the type of qualification. The price of the preparatory course may differ because there is more material to learn and the questions cover medium-voltage networks and substations.
How long does it take to obtain SEP qualifications?
Obtaining SEP qualifications usually takes from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the examination board’s schedule and whether you study independently or take a course. Preparatory training usually lasts from one to several days, while the oral exam itself takes between a dozen and several dozen minutes. The certificate is issued after you pass the exam.
The qualification process step by step:
- Choose the group and category (for example, G1 E up to 1 kV) and the scope in which you want to work.
- Prepare: study independently using exam questions or take a course costing around PLN 95 or more.
- Register for the exam with a qualification examination board and pay the PLN 480 fee.
- Pass the exam before the board.
- Collect your qualification certificate, valid for 5 years.
What do you need to know for the SEP exam up to 1 kV?
For the SEP exam up to 1 kV in the operation category, you mainly need to know the regulations and rules for working safely with electrical equipment, rather than formulae from an electrical engineering textbook. The examination board usually asks about:
- occupational health and safety rules for electrical equipment, including the organisation of work under written instructions;
- rules for operating, maintaining and installing equipment within your scope, such as installations up to 1 kV;
- protection against electric shock and inspections, especially if you want to be authorised to carry out testing;
- first aid following an electric shock;
- what to do in the event of a fire and in emergencies.
The exam takes the form of an interview with the examination board, and the questions relate to the scope for which you are applying. People who work with electrical installations every day will know most of the answers from experience. Those without experience will benefit from reviewing sets of questions and taking a training course, which costs from around PLN 95.
Can you obtain SEP qualifications from scratch?
SEP qualifications in the operation category can be obtained without an electrical education, and you can take the exam without completing a compulsory course. However, preparatory training is strongly recommended for people without practical experience: a training and exam package costs around PLN 800. Check the education and experience requirements with the examination board before registering, especially for the supervision category, as they depend on the group and scope.
Remember that the certificate itself does not authorise you to carry out every type of work on an installation independently. Many jobs, such as connecting a new installation, require additional construction qualifications or supervision. If in doubt, ask the examination board or your employer.
SEP qualifications and other professional qualifications: cost comparison
SEP qualifications are among the cheapest professional qualifications because the exam fee is PLN 480 and the course is optional. For comparison, these are the typical costs of other popular qualifications according to price lists collected by indekscen.pl:
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEP electrical qualifications | PLN 480 | PLN 475 ‑ 485 | 3 |
| F-gas certification course for air-conditioning installation | PLN 1,415 | PLN 1,250 ‑ 1,750 | 3 |
| Forklift course | PLN 625 | PLN 490 ‑ 985 | 6 |
| Welding course (welder certification) | PLN 3,250 | PLN 3,150 ‑ 3,400 | 3 |
Median and typical range from public price lists, as at 5 October 2026. Each price includes a source and quotation on the service page.
An air-conditioning installer usually needs both SEP qualifications and an F-gas certificate: an F-gas course has a median price of PLN 1,415. We cover UDT qualifications in the articles forklift course with UDT exam and excavator course. The most expensive option in the comparison is a welding course, with a median price of PLN 3,250, because it includes extensive practical training in a workshop.
How much can you earn with SEP testing qualifications?
SEP qualifications authorising you to carry out testing allow you to perform periodic installation inspections, for which customers usually pay PLN 375 ‑ 450 in a flat. In a detached house, electrical testing cost around PLN 575. Even one inspection therefore covers the cost of the exam. How can you avoid overpaying for SEP qualifications?
- Do not pay for “instant qualifications” offered by providers promising a certificate without an exam. The certificate is issued by an examination board after you pass the exam.
- Check whether the package includes the exam fee. Some training providers quote only the price of the course.
- Take exams for several groups on the same date if you need them, to save on travel costs.
- Ask your employer. Companies often pay for employees’ qualifications because they are required for the job.
- Keep track of the expiry date so that your qualifications do not expire during a job.
