The cost of an electrical installation in a house is easy to calculate if you know how many points there will be and what the quote includes. The problem is that electricians charge in different ways: some per point including materials, others for labour alone, and still others by the hour. We have collected rates from public price lists and show how to use them to prepare a budget for a house or flat.

How much does a complete electrical installation in a house cost?

A complete electrical installation in a new detached house with a floor area of 100 to 150 m² costs around PLN 17,000, including labour and materials. This is a quote for a complete installation with around 80 points: sockets, switches, lighting points and high-power circuits for the kitchen.

Three items not included in most price lists usually need to be added to this amount: the installation design, testing with a report, and travel charges for small jobs. Read more about the overall construction budget in our article on the cost of building a house.

How much does the electrical installation in a 120 m² house cost?

At the median rate of PLN 170 per point, an electrical installation with around 80 points in a 120 m² house costs about PLN 14,000, with a typical range of PLN 12,000 ‑ 14,000. The number of points depends on the room layout and fittings, so count them on the house plan yourself before comparing quotes.

An example budget for a 120 m² house, calculated using price-list rates:

Item Assumption Cost
Electrical points (labour, including materials in some quotes) 80 points around PLN 14,000
Electrical points, more extensive option 100 points around PLN 17,000
Final fitting of sockets and switches 80 points around PLN 1,400
Distribution board installation (labour) 1 unit around PLN 400
Testing and completion report detached house around PLN 575

The table does not include the cost of fittings (sockets, frames and light fittings), distribution board components or the design. The amount depends on the selected range of fittings, so ask the contractor to list materials separately.

How much does an electrician charge per point?

An electrical point in Poland usually costs PLN 145 ‑ 175, while the median from 3 price lists collected by indekscen.pl is PLN 170. This is how electrical installation is calculated: one point means one socket, switch or lighting outlet, with a cable running from the distribution board.

The range of rates in electricians’ price lists is wider, PLN 65 ‑ 190, because some companies quote for labour alone, while others include the cable and back box in the price per point. The same figure can therefore mean different things in two quotes. A high-power point, for example for an induction hob, costs more than a standard socket.

How much does it cost to replace the electrical installation in a flat?

According to price lists, replacing the entire electrical installation in a flat of around 50 m² costs approximately PLN 8,500. In an older block of flats, adding new points also involves cutting chases in concrete, removing old aluminium wiring, often installing a new distribution board, and repairing the plaster afterwards.

It is best to plan the replacement together with the renovation, as the walls will need skimming and painting after the chases have been cut. We discuss the cost of this work in our article on how much it costs to renovate a flat.

How much does it cost to install a socket and switch?

The final fitting of a socket or switch to an existing installation usually costs PLN 12 ‑ 29 per point, with a median of PLN 18. This price covers only fitting and connecting the accessories after painting, without cutting chases or running cables.

A one-off job in a flat is priced differently. The median cost of replacing one socket is PLN 125, because the price includes travel and a minimum call-out charge. Electricians’ price lists quote around PLN 45 for fitting and connecting a switch, and around PLN 70 for connecting a light fitting or chandelier.

Practical conclusion: combine small electrical jobs into one appointment. Replacing five sockets during a single visit costs much less than five separate call-outs.

How much do electrical testing and installation sign-off cost?

Electrical testing with a report usually costs PLN 375 ‑ 450 in a flat, with a median of PLN 400. In a detached house, electrical testing costs around PLN 575. This includes testing circuit insulation resistance and the effectiveness of protection against electric shock, as well as a test report.

Testing is required after a new installation has been completed, after major renovation work and during the periodic inspection every 5 years. Not all electricians are authorised to perform testing, so ask whether the report is included in the price when selecting a contractor.

What increases the cost of an electrical installation?

The cost of an electrical installation is affected most by the number of points and the condition of the walls, rather than the floor area of the house itself. Two 120 m² houses can have completely different bills. Price lists indicate the following factors:

  • Number and type of points. A high-power point or a circuit for a car charger or heat pump costs more than a standard socket.
  • Wall material. Cutting chases in concrete takes longer than in hollow blocks or aerated concrete blocks, while older buildings may also require plaster to be removed.
  • Construction stage. Installing wiring in an unfinished shell before plastering is cheaper than replacing it in a finished and occupied flat.
  • City. Rates in Warsaw and other large cities are higher than in smaller localities. We do not yet publish local prices for this service because we have too few sources from individual cities.
  • Additional systems. Smart-home systems, computer networks, alarms and CCTV require separate circuits and separate quotes.

How much does one hour of an electrician’s labour cost?

According to price lists, one hour of a specialist electrician’s labour costs around 120 PLN/h. An hourly rate makes sense for repairs and fault finding when it is difficult to estimate the amount of work in advance. For a new installation, it is easier to compare quotes per point or for the complete job, as this lets you know the cost before work begins.

How do you obtain a quote for an electrical installation?

You will get the most accurate quotes for an electrical installation if you give several electricians the same scope of work. Follow these steps:

  1. Count the points on the plan. List sockets, switches, lighting points and high-power circuits separately (hob, oven, heat pump and car charger).
  2. Decide on the design. For a new house, an installation design is essential for sign-off. For a flat renovation, a sketch is often sufficient.
  3. Request quotes in the same format: labour per point, materials per point, distribution board, final fitting and testing.
  4. Check what is excluded from the price: cutting chases, plastering the chases, removing rubble and travel.
  5. Ask about the test report and who will purchase the fittings.

The distribution board is often replaced at the same time, with a median labour cost of PLN 400. Scheduled meter replacement by the network operator is free. You only pay if you request a replacement yourself, in which case electricity meter replacement costs around PLN 525.

If you are also planning mechanical ventilation or air conditioning, include circuits for them now. We discuss the costs in our articles on heat recovery ventilation: installation and running costs and how much air conditioning costs. You can find other electrical work prices in the installations and energy category.
