- Generator hire in Poland usually costs 105 ‑ 145 PLN/day, with a median of 140 PLN/day.
- The smallest generators can be hired from 70 PLN/day, while more powerful models cost up to 150 PLN/day.

- The median generator hire rate is based on 3 hire company price lists collected by indekscen.pl.

Generators are usually hired for short periods: for construction sites without a mains connection, outdoor events, plots of land or power cuts. Buying one only makes sense if it will be used frequently, so most people ask hire companies for their price lists. We have collected rates from hire company price lists and explain what is included and what costs extra.
How much does it cost to hire a generator per day?
Generator hire most commonly costs 140 PLN/day, according to 3 hire company price lists collected by indekscen.pl. Half of the offers fall within 105 ‑ 145 PLN/day, the smallest units are available from 70 PLN/day, while more powerful models cost up to 150 PLN/day.
The price covers the generator itself for the hire period. Fuel, the refundable deposit and equipment delivery are usually charged separately. Details, including sources and verbatim quotations from price lists, are available at generator hire.
Generator hire price list: day, weekend and week
Hiring a generator for a week at the median daily rate costs around PLN 980, but hire companies reduce the daily rate for longer periods. The table below shows the estimated cost for different hire periods, calculated using the median and typical range:
| Hire period | At the median rate | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| 1 day | 140 PLN/day | 105 ‑ 145 PLN/day |
| Weekend (2 days) | PLN 280 | PLN 210 ‑ 290 |
| Week (7 days) | PLN 980 | PLN 740 ‑ 1,000 |
| Two weeks (14 days) | PLN 2,000 | PLN 1,500 ‑ 2,000 |
This is an upper estimate because it does not include discounts. For hires of a week or longer, always ask for a weekly or monthly rate: it may be considerably lower than the sum of the daily rates.
How much does it cost to hire a 10 kW generator?
Hiring a generator rated at around 10 kW costs more than the median of 140 PLN/day, as the rate increases with the unit’s power output. The lower end of the price list, starting from 70 PLN/day, applies to small generators rated at a few kilowatts, which are sufficient for power tools. Hire companies usually price three-phase generators rated at 10 kW or more individually, often including delivery on a trailer.
How to choose the right generator output:
- Add up the power ratings of the equipment that will operate at the same time.
- Allow extra capacity for starting. Motors in equipment such as cement mixers, pumps and compressors draw several times more power when starting than during operation.
- Check whether you need three-phase power. Some construction machinery and plastering machines require a 400 V supply.
- Choose an inverter generator for electronics, as it provides stable voltage for computers and sound systems.
How much does one hour of generator operation and 1 kWh from a generator cost?
The main cost of running a generator for an hour is fuel, as hire is charged by the day rather than by the hour. A small petrol generator operating at half load typically consumes around 1 to 2 litres of fuel per hour, while larger diesel generators consume several litres. The hourly cost is therefore the consumption shown on the rating plate multiplied by the price per litre at the filling station.
Electricity from a generator is considerably more expensive than mains electricity. Small generators typically consume around 0.3 to 0.5 litres of fuel for every kilowatt-hour produced, and even more when operating at low load. A generator is therefore cost-effective where mains power is unavailable or temporarily out of service, not as a permanent power source.
How much does it cost to hire a generator for skim-coating work?
Hiring a generator for finishing work, such as powering a paddle mixer and a drywall sander, usually costs the same as hiring a small generator, so it is closer to the lower limit of 70 PLN/day. A single-phase unit rated at a few kilowatts is sufficient.
Be careful not to confuse the names: a plastering machine used to spray skim coat is different from a generator and has a separate price list. If the skim-coating contractor brings their own equipment, they will usually take power from the building. Prices for the service itself are available at gypsum skim coating, where the median labour cost is 48 PLN/m².
Which equipment is worth hiring?
It is worth hiring equipment that you use only a few days a year, such as a generator, demolition hammer, plate compactor or mini excavator. These are the daily rates charged by construction equipment hire companies:
| Service | Median | Typically | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generator hire | 140 PLN/day | 105 ‑ 145 PLN/day | 3 |
| Demolition hammer hire | 98.40 PLN/day | 86 ‑ 110 PLN/day | 3 |
| Compactor plate hire | 130 PLN/day | 100 ‑ 175 PLN/day | 7 |
Median and typical range from public price lists, as at 5 October 2026. Each price includes a source and quotation on the service page.
- demolition hammer hire usually costs 86 ‑ 110 PLN/day, excluding delivery and attachments.
- compactor plate hire has a median price of 130 PLN/day, depending on the machine’s weight.
- mini excavator hire with operator without an operator costs around 325 PLN/day, while hire with an operator is charged by the hour, with a median of 175 PLN/h.
Buying a generator makes sense if you need it regularly: on a plot without electricity, as backup during frequent power cuts or for a contracting business. For a one-off construction project or event, hiring is simpler because there is no need to worry about servicing, storage or oil changes. We discuss the cost of heavy equipment in more detail in the article mini excavator hourly rate.
Generator for a power cut at home: hire or buy?
It is worth hiring a generator for a power cut at home when the outage has been announced in advance, for example due to planned work on the grid, and will last one or two days. The cost is then PLN 280 for two days at the median rate, plus fuel. During an unexpected outage, especially after severe storms, hire companies quickly run out of equipment and it can be difficult to find an available generator.
If power cuts occur several times a year in your area and your home has a heat pump, an electronically controlled boiler or a well pump, consider buying your own generator and a transfer switch. Another option is battery storage for a solar PV system, which we discuss in the article heat pump or solar PV. When making your decision, calculate how many times a year you would need the generator and compare that with the daily hire rate.
What should you ask a generator hire company?
- What are the continuous and maximum power ratings? The continuous rating is what matters, as the generator can only sustain its maximum output briefly.
- How much is the deposit, and how is it collected?
- Is the generator supplied with a full tank, and how is fuel accounted for when it is returned?
- How much do delivery and collection cost, particularly for heavier trailer-mounted generators?
- Is there a weekend or weekly rate that is lower than the sum of the daily rates?
- Who is responsible for a breakdown during the hire period, and will the hire company provide replacement equipment?
Construction site or event: what other costs should you include?
On a construction site without a mains connection, a generator is only one part of the temporary infrastructure. You may also need a portable toilet, which usually costs 175 ‑ 280 PLN/month per month to hire. We discuss this in the article portable toilet hire. For an outdoor event, you will also need extension leads with the correct cable size, a distribution board and someone to monitor refuelling.
Always place the generator outdoors, away from windows and tents, because the exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide. Only connect it to a domestic electrical system through a transfer switch installed by an electrician, never through a wall socket.

Do you have to return a hired generator with a full tank?
Zwykle tak: agregat wydaje się z pełnym zbiornikiem i trzeba go oddać zatankowanego albo zapłacić za brakujące paliwo. Paliwo nie jest wliczone w cenę wynajmu.
How much does generator hire cost in Warsaw?
Osobnej mediany dla Warszawy jeszcze nie mamy. Stawki wypożyczalni w dużych miastach mieszczą się zwykle w przedziale krajowym 105 ‑ 145 PLN/day, a różnicę robi przede wszystkim moc agregatu i koszt dowozu.
