A holiday cottage is one of the few types of accommodation where you pay for the whole property rather than per person. For a family or group of friends, the nightly rate is therefore split between several people and often works out cheaper than rooms in a guest house. Below, we have compiled medians from public cottage price lists, calculated the cost of a week, compared high-season and off-season stays, and checked how cottages compare with campervans. At the end, we provide some figures for those considering renting out their own cottage.

How much does it cost to rent a holiday cottage per night?

Renting a holiday cottage during the summer season usually costs 410 ‑ 500 PLN/day, while the median from 4 price lists collected by indekscen.pl is 435 PLN/day. This is the price for the entire cottage, usually accommodating four to six people, excluding additional charges. The full range is wide: from 250 PLN/day for simpler cottages to 700 PLN/day on the coast at the height of the summer holiday season.

You can find details, quotations from price lists and the date of each price on the holiday cottage rental (per day) page. It also contains the full list of sources.

How much does a week in a holiday cottage cost?

At the median rate, a week in a holiday cottage during the high season costs around PLN 3,000, with a typical range of PLN 2,900 ‑ 3,500. Two weeks cost around PLN 6,100. In July and August, many properties only accept bookings for several nights or from Saturday to Saturday, so a short stay can be harder to find than a week-long one.

High-season stay Cost at the median rate Typical range
1 night 435 PLN/day 410 ‑ 500 PLN/day
Long weekend (3 nights) PLN 1,300 PLN 1,200 ‑ 1,500
Week (7 nights) PLN 3,000 PLN 2,900 ‑ 3,500
Two weeks (14 nights) PLN 6,100 PLN 5,700 ‑ 7,000

For longer stays, some owners reduce the nightly rate, so the table represents the upper limit for a typical cottage rather than an exact total. It is worth asking about a discount when you first make contact, especially for a stay longer than a week.

How much does a holiday cottage cost outside the high season?

Outside the high season, in spring or autumn, a holiday cottage costs around 350 PLN/day per night according to price lists, clearly less than during the summer holidays. The calendar affects the rate: long weekends, the May holiday period and public holidays are priced similarly to the high season, while an ordinary week in June or September may be the cheapest time of the year.

Outside the high season, check two things that do not matter in summer. First, heating: in some cottages it is charged separately or is not available at all. Second, local amenities: on the coast and in Mazury, some bars, equipment hire businesses and shops operate only during the summer holidays.

Holiday cottage rental in Mazury and on the coast: where is it more expensive?

According to price lists, renting a holiday cottage on the coast at the height of the season costs up to 700 PLN/day per night, the upper limit of all the rates collected. In Mazury, the sources describe a cottage for four people within a range whose midpoint corresponds to our median of 435 PLN/day. The cheapest offers, starting from 250 PLN/day, are usually cottages further from the water or with more basic facilities.

We do not yet publish cottage prices for individual towns because the price lists are too fragmented to calculate a reliable regional median. When comparing offers, always use the same unit: the price per cottage per night, together with the number of guests accommodated and a list of additional charges.

Holiday cottage or campervan: which is cheaper?

A holiday cottage is cheaper than a campervan per night: the median for a cottage is 435 PLN/day, while campervan hire costs 535 PLN/day. A week in a campervan costs around PLN 3,700, plus fuel, campsite fees and a refundable deposit, which is usually several times higher than for a cottage.

A campervan is the better option when you want to visit several places on one trip or rent it for longer: according to the sources, the rate falls to around 165 PLN/day for rentals of 30 days or more. For a week in one place, a cottage is simpler and cheaper. We cover campervan costs in more detail in the article campervan hire, price per day.

What is not included in the holiday cottage price?

The listed rate usually covers accommodation for the entire group in the cottage. Before booking, ask about items that are often charged separately:

  1. Pet fee, charged for each night if the property accepts dogs at all.
  2. Refundable deposit, collected on arrival or at the time of booking and returned after the cottage has been inspected.
  3. Heating outside the high season, charged according to consumption or as a flat fee.
  4. Local or tourist tax, charged in some municipalities per person per night.
  5. Final cleaning and bed linen, charged separately at some properties.
  6. Minimum number of nights during the high season: a shorter stay may only be available for an additional fee.

Also ask about the cancellation policy and whether the advance payment is refundable. When renting a holiday cottage privately, the terms may be agreed by e-mail, so keep the confirmation showing the price and dates.

Is renting out holiday cottages profitable?

According to the sources, building a simple wooden holiday cottage measuring from 25 to 35 m² costs around PLN 70,000, with a typical range of PLN 67,500 ‑ 102,500, excluding utilities, a terrace and the plot of land. At a rate of 435 PLN/day, a season with 60 booked nights generates revenue of around PLN 26,000, before deducting cleaning, utilities, booking platform commission, insurance and tax.

This calculation shows that a cottage takes years to pay for itself, and the result depends mainly on occupancy outside July and August. A year-round cottage costs more (according to the sources, a large one measuring from 50 to 70 m² costs around PLN 200,000), but it can also be rented out in autumn and winter. We cover construction costs in more detail in the article building a year-round holiday cottage, while contractors’ prices are available on the construction of a holiday cottage page.

What do you need to do to rent out a holiday cottage? How tax is settled, whether you need to notify the tax office and whether a business must be registered depend on the type of rental and the scope of services provided, whether accommodation alone or also cleaning and meals. We do not resolve these issues in an article about prices: before getting started, ask a tax adviser or the tax office. We describe the cost of such advice in the article tax adviser price list.

How can you avoid overpaying for a holiday cottage?

  • Book early for July and August or choose June and September, when rates are lower.
  • Compare the price per cottage, not per person. At the median rate of 435 PLN/day, a cottage for six people works out cheaper per person than most rooms in guest houses.
  • Ask about a discount for a longer stay, as many owners reduce the nightly rate for stays of a week or more.
  • Check access and the distance from the water, as a cheaper cottage further from the lake may require daily travel by car.
  • Make a note of what is included in the price: bed linen, towels, barbecue, boat and parking.
