How long does a colonoscopy take, and does it hurt?
A colonoscopy takes 15 to 40 minutes. It can be performed under local anaesthesia using anaesthetic gel or under general anaesthesia, so the patient does not experience discomfort.
Who is entitled to a free colonoscopy?
Under the NFZ screening programme, a free colonoscopy without a referral is available to people aged 50-65, as well as those aged 40 to 49 if a close relative has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
