Five sources with varying levels of reliability, deliberately kept separate so that declarations are not mixed with evidence. The price index consists of cited public price lists per unit of service (PLN/alteration); customer reviews show amounts for entire jobs submitted via the ‘How much did you pay?’ form, with three verification levels (how we verify them); company price lists contain prices entered by the companies themselves. Clothing alterations: how prices have changed
Year-on-year changes in the prices of the same items in the price lists of the same companies. We obtain historical prices from archived versions of company websites (Internet Archive), each accompanied by a verbatim quotation. How we calculate.

What affects the price
- type of garment: trousers and minor alterations are cheaper than alterations to a blazer, jacket or coat
- whether the garment has a lining: alterations to lined garments are more expensive
- scope of the alteration: shortening alone is cheaper than taking it in where the waistband also needs altering
- city and specific tailoring workshop

The service name is general, so the most commonly priced alteration, shortening or taking in trousers, was adopted as the unit; prices for altering blazers, jackets and coats are clearly higher and are described in the variants.
Prices from customers and companies
Two types of entries: customers state how much they paid for the entire job and rate the contractor; service providers enter their price lists.
